    1964 Ford F100

I like it. I “hate” Ford, but I’m sentimental towards most older vehicles. There’s maybe one Ford product that I’m sure will find its way into my collection. Plus, my dad’s ‘96. He loved that truck, and I loved him so where does that leave me. Even though Ford didn’t build it, the 7.3 PSD is my...

    What is this vacuum thing?

That’s called a thermal vacuum switch. They’re typically there for the EFE valve in the passenger exhaust manifold, but they can have them for canister purge, EGR, etc. Trucks did have distributor delay back in the spaghetti years, and you’ve got it going to the choke pull off and thermac for...

    TBI Issues

Here are some tests for the EST Circuit that can help isolate a faulty ECM, ICM, or wiring. I think this is Camaro literature. The test procedure in the truck manual sucks IMO. I’m having a similar issue to yours that I have still not been able to completely iron out, but I’m closing in fast...

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

The belt chewed the rib, and it was sliced in several spots down the middle. I drove it maybe a hundred miles with the old tensioner, but I’ve put about 3K with that new tensioner. It’s a Duralast unit, but I don’t know how good it is. Every tensioner has the plastic pulley now. That itself...

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

Really couldn’t see much wrong. I got a water pump pulley from PAP because mine was pitted very badly from sitting up in the bayou all those years. I also wire brushed the PS pump pulley just to be safe. You can see a before pic of both of them here: Got a new belt, and I guess we’ll try...

    TBI Issues

If you have a brass cap and rotor, you’re probably in better shape, but I did the AC Delco parts, which are aluminum, and I limped to 30K, but it was running so bad, I just got a Duralast cap and rotor set which were brass and had a limited. lifetime warranty. No issues.

    TBI Issues

If you have a 700R4, then no modulator. If you have an aluminum cap/rotor with around 30 or so thousand miles, it might be time for a new one. Also, don’t discount the pickup coil and ignition module. The tests are quick and easy.

If no SES light, you’re in for a treat. I’d check your injector spray pattern, and you can also test the resistance on the injectors. Should be around 1.3 ohms low side depending on your DVM. If nothing’s fishy there, I’d be suspicious of a TPS dead spot near WOT. Getting some live data on...

Stalls when pressing gas too fast

The Walmart batteries are good if you use them every day. Sitting up with occasional starting really takes its toll on those. Especially if you don’t take care of them in the winter. The one in my Caprice is the one year battery, and it’s been doing well for three years now. I paid for one like...

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

I can see now that it was hitting the alternator bracket on top and immediately under it. It rode really close when it was new, maybe too close, but I can’t discount it riding on the compressor pulley moving it over since I did replace that later on. The alternator’s a six rib. Look how close...

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

I got a set brackets and dampeners from PAP if the worst happens, but nothing’s moved from that position so I’m gonna move on for now. I also found my fuel leak. It’s coming from the fuel filler vent hose, just leaking whenever it’s all the way full. Canister is clear, and I’m gonna out a new...

    Fuel Gauge

Mine was like that, and the sender was no good. I haven’t had a gauge problem, but if the fuel gauge works, and you move it with your finger, it’ll just run right back to where it was before.

Do you have any of the brushed aluminum door inserts that go behind the pull straps? I just need one and a few of the caps if in good shape.

    1973 c20. . .Starting Difficulties

Yep, you have a points ignition, which is what it came with. I’d make sure the battery’s not dead first of all. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve assumed the most simple thing was working properly, and it wasn’t. There could be a parisitic draw, an alternator undervolt condition, or just a...

That’s very interesting. @gmachinz might know why this is. I sure don’t. Have you had a chance to test the blower directly?

    New Inner Fender suggestions

I didn’t even fool with aftermarket inner fenders. I went to the junkyards and found plenty of good inner fenders in good shape. I don’t know what the junkyard situation is right around there, but if you’re willing to drive down to say Clarksdale, Cleveland, Greenville, or Greenwood, you’ll find...

    1973 c20. . .Starting Difficulties

Okay, a lot to unpack here. The 350 is a V8, and the 262/4.3 is the truck V6, but that one’s ‘85 or newer. Your truck would have originally come with a point style ignition system, and high energy ignition (HEI) is what came later and some older trucks have been retrofitted. Unless someone...

    Wanders All Over the Road

So good news and bad news. The tie rod end helped considerably. I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s handling exactly like it should, but it’s close, and I bet proper camber/caster would bring the straight line handling home. There wasn’t that much play in it, and I feel stupid for not being able...

    Heater not blowing at all

That it does. That lone speck on the firewall - is that a bolt? That flange has got to ground to something because it’s bolted into the plastic heater box. If it were me, I’d get any small gauge wire, put two ring terminals on each end, and run it from behind that bolt in the firewall to in...
