I hope he meant thousand. Yikes.

    Rock Auto buyer beware

@HotRodPC has been singing this Airtex tune for a few years, too. That’s what dissuaded me from buying any of their products. You know, I’ve actually had really good luck with Spectra stuff, senders, sender/pump combos, and tanks. That’s only three vehicles I’ve used them on, and I don’t trust...

350 Tune-up "kit" w/ Cap, rotor, wires: Good deal?

I use nor recommend the Delco cap and rotor anymore. The aluminum pins are more oxidation than metal at 30K miles, and the performance will effectively park the vehicle until you replace them. Brass has better properties to be used in this setting, and it should last longer than 30K. I’m...

    Fontana Radiator

So I saw a Marketplace ad for a brass-copper radiator that came out of a ‘71 Camaro, and I quickly found that it would fit in my car, which I’ve been passively looking for one of these for a couple of years. I assumed it was a GM-Harrison radiator, but when I got there, the tag said Fontana...

In the next 2 months Im looking to buy a(nother) square..

305s aren’t bad, I’ve had one carry me around many thousands of miles very reliably, but I have a good one by 305 standards, and it leaves something to be desired. If you found a great truck with one, I wouldn’t let it be a dealbreaker, but if you were on the fence with one, I’d factor it in as...

    Repair Melted Connector

Exactly what I was thinking. That should be a two wire connector in a TBI. Both male and female pigtails should be available online or special order locally in some form. Or cut them out of a junkyard GMT400.

    A/C issues on 84 C10 with 5.3 LS

I agree, flushing is the only way to zero it out minus the compressor, but I think that’s a negligible amount left behind once you drain it. I would be tempted to hold onto the accumulator, too, but I know that’s not the best idea because, as mentioned, it’s impossible to get it all out, and...

    A/C issues on 84 C10 with 5.3 LS

Over-oiling is definitely a no-no, but it sounds like there may have been oil in there for transport that you needed to drain off according to the above info so that could be worse in terms of cooling efficiency. If there was no information provided regarding the oil that’s in there, it’s...

    A/C issues on 84 C10 with 5.3 LS

Hmm, what orifice tube did you use, fixed or variable? What was the oil pre-charge of the new compressor out of the box, and was that six ounces in addition to that plus the residual amount in the evaporator and condenser?

    Turn Signal Help

Check both fuses, make sure the flashers are there, and feel free to swap in a spare you may have to rule out two bad flashers. If there are any other electrical issues, verify your principal ground network under the hood. My guess is a bad turn signal switch in the “new” column, but check for...

    Replacement AC compressor

Possibly. Either way, power is being applied to the clutch when it’s not supposed to be. If any connectors are melted or cracked or bare wires are touching, juice could be jumping across pins/wires when it’s not supposed to. It sounds like a long shot thing, but when those wires run close to the...

    Considering a M1008 Cucv.... Thoughts

I didn’t even think of the two alternators. Wow, that’s a tough one. What about fabricating brackets for the lower passenger side where the AIR pump would be on a gasser? Otherwise, I guess you’d have to install a Thermador style cooler if you live in a dry climate, install a window unit which...

    Considering a M1008 Cucv.... Thoughts

I think the one thing I’d want above all else if I was going to make a frequent driver of one of those is to set it up with the gauge package and repin/resensor it rather than deal the idiot lights it has. Nothing against them, but that information is very useful to have. It’s also easy to put...

    Replacement AC compressor

No, the blower control switch pops off the face from the back, and it’s a separate thing. The mode switch is the same way, but the speed selector should be easier to replace.

    Replacement AC compressor

Have you owned the truck since new? If that’s the original compressor, and it did well with the retrofit for that long, that’s great. RIP to the Delphi/Harrison unit. They don’t make them like that anymore. For the compressor warranty to technically be valid, you’re supposed to do a new...

    TBI emissions control adventures

I wouldn’t fool with remanufactured or even new ones that aren’t GM/Delco. I had a bad experience trying to save on injectors, it devolved into a huge hassle, and I did all that just to end up buying Delco anyway. Those’ll run you about $110 a pop, give or take, unless you find a damaged box or...

    TBI emissions control adventures

Yeah, those extra drips are not enough to result in vehicular Armageddon, but it’s enough to push you over the edge into being too rich. I would ohm them out and see what’s going on there first. It’s not a big deal if there’s crud in them allowing them to stick open a little. If the injector...

    TBI emissions control adventures

It’s supposed to a cone-shaped, fine mist. If you’re noticing a drip after shutdown, it’s probably as bad or worse when running. All depressurization that occurs should be within a closed circuit not like that. Just curious, is the drippy injector on the driver side bank with the O2 sensor? The...

    Kickdown switch

If anyone’s parting out any 70s/80s Chevy P30 based motorhomes, they also came with that switch.

    Goodyear Wrangler Radials

I haven’t put enough miles on Wranglers to speak definitively on the subject, but a lot of online reviews back up the negatives that you’re seeing here: bulging, blowing out, wearing out faster than the treadwear warranty. I’ve seen Goodyear marqued tires other than Wrangler go to hell in a...

    TBI emissions control adventures

When I’ve gotten Code 13, unless the O2 sensor is absent, I’ve gotten either Code 44 or 45. You haven’t gotten these? I’d like to see what temperature the CTS thinks the engine is vs. what it actually is. If you have elevation concerns, it’s the MAP sensor’s job to factor that in, and it...

    Water Pump Pulley

Gotcha. If you’re not using a smog pump then, you can use a two or three groove water pump pulley. If you have to have a smog pump to pass emissions, then three it’s gotta be.

    Water Pump Pulley

It should have come with a three groove pulley, two v belts on the front and rear and a mini serp in the middle for the alternator. If you’re getting rid of the air injection, you don’t need the front groove, but it’s hardly noticeable if you keep the stock pulley and delete the AIR.

    1983 K20 350 SBC Upgrade Opinions

Glad you took the carburetor red pill, if you will. At least with respect to GM. I’m sure Mopar guys say the same about the Carter TQ. Ford guys are too busy calling a tow truck to have anything else to say. I kid, but I still prefer the ole General. Keep us posted!

Mounting a heavy belt-driven air compressor

Do you have a pic? In a perfect world, utilize the AIR pump area. Just affix it to the frame with the pulley in line with the smog pump groove on the water pump pulley and use a longer v-belt, like the PS pump uses. That’s the only way I see it sitting upright, as well. If you somehow mounted...
