factory electronic port injection 350 SBC

You’re talking about the TPI like the Camaros and stuff used from 1985-92? I don’t think of these as particularly rare, somewhere between TBI that’s everywhere and OEM mechanical Ramjet that’s rare. I think there’s some niche value to TPI but nothing crazy. They work, and they can be reliable...

    '97 350 Lt1 putting in an '87 gmc

See, now this is an interesting swap. I think I’d use an OBDI harness from any early F Body/Camaro, I know W Bodies have the same style of ECM so you could (conceivably) yank the harness out of an old FWD car that used the 440-T4 in 1990 or before, and repin anything that was different. That way...

They would have definitely had it in the computer, which goes from an ECM to a PCM with the added trans controls. It’s crazy how you have all the old style transmissions in 1990, the TH400, 700R4, 200-4R, 440-T4, and then almost everything goes electronic in almost every vehicle in 1991. All you...

    1980 C30 running rough solved!

It wouldn’t hurt. It’s an unbaffled tank so if you have to clean it out, all you have to do is fill it with CLR and swish it out. I don’t know if people on here have used rocks, but old timers do that on tractors.

    Strange steering issue.

I just installed a Delco reman pump last night. It said “remanufactured in Mexico,” and right then and there I expected trouble. It was whiny and stiff at idle. I thought it was the PS pump knocking, but turns out it was the water pump. I reinstalled the almost 31 year old pump with 205K miles...

    1980 C30 running rough solved!

E10 will very much rust the inside of the fuel tank and the sender. I think the metal lines are a tad more resilient, but I don’t see it being impossible for rust powder to make it all the way up there.

    88 Caprice Classic Wagon

I thought the same thing. That 200-4R combined with the 2.56 rear, the E4ME, and just the 307 in general would probably make this one of the most highway-friendly full sized cars ever.

    Perfect time

The compression on a stock 350 isn’t ridiculous so it can handle 10*-12* base. I’d do as much as possible without it pinging. A 305 can’t do that much in my experience, but that’s a different story altogether. If the overall setup works for you, no point in doing a shakeup. If you don’t have...

    88 Caprice Classic Wagon

Ooooh, another B Body in the house. That’s what I’d say. Someone else might say dat muhfuh box clean. And they would be correct. Only suggestion I can offer is don’t believe the negative press on the E4ME. They’re as good as any M-Quadrajet when they’re working correctly.

    Spark Plug Question

In the cuprous plug family, I use the CR43TS. I don’t see more than a negligible difference using the 45 version. I’ve always used copper in my various SBCs and 454s, but I did step up to platinum in a 3.1 that I daily. I’ve read of people objecting to use anything but copper in old style...

Loud Bang, something broke, then bad vibration in park or driving

An improperly affixed engine is hard to miss. More so in a FWD in my experience, but if that was it, it should still be obvious. I would inspect the harmonic balancer (both hub and outer ring) and the flexplate very closely. I agree on not ruling out the internals, but if it otherwise runs well...

Are any emissions components GOOD to keep? (+Snorkel components)

Looks to me like they wrap it around the manifold fairly tightly and then spot weld it or solder it to itself where it pinches together on top.

Nice truck. I’d come borrow it from you if it was a Big Dooley, but I’ll leave you to it! Were these 454/4L80E trucks? You don’t see a lot of the ‘91 crews, at least I don’t. The Blazers, Jimmies, and Burbs seem to be a tad more common.

Keep Frying HEI Coils PLEASE HELP!

What brand of coil are you using? They should come with a ground strap and a ground wire. According to the Standard Motor Products literature that comes with their Blue Streak line of ignition coils, you can burn them out prematurely without both grounds in place. It’s also possible that the...

    Rubber or poly bushings

I’ll have to look those up, but I’ll plan to do like I said. I wish I could do poly on body mounts, but knowing my luck, it would squeak to no end.

    Rubber or poly bushings

What do y’all think about the doing all rubber except poly on the sway bar links and bracket bushings? The logic there would be to keep a squishier ride while keeping the sway bar rigid and having a little bit better turning performance.

    Some Big Block help please.

There you go! That SM will work just as well. And plus the RVs got an 800 CFM Quadrajet so it’s unlikely you could (or ever would) build the engine to the point where it would outgrow the carb.

    Some Big Block help please.

If you can find an old P30 based camper, I’d yank the whole powertrain. Might be the way to go if you’re starting from a 350/350 combo. Those are generally low mileage, cheap to acquire, and if it passes a wet/dry compression test, there you go. You spend a little bit up front, and then you can...

Small 700r4 leak from shift shaft

I’ve done the shaft seal on a 200-4R, and it was easy. Fixed the leak, but the shaft was wet with fluid so it was a pretty ironclad diagnosis. If it’s leaning in the direction of the pan, makes sense that it would still be leaking without the wet shaft and the small puddle right below.
