    Camper Special

So is anyone watching the “Packers” vs. the “Washington Native Indigenous Peoples of Color who don’t necessarily have to conform to binary gender norms if they don’t want to” game Sunday? Comes on at noon central IIRC.

    Carb info/comments

Yep. Does it have the vacuum diagram on it still? If so, follow it. If not, get the emissions diagram for a 49 state truck or van 305. If you have a TH350C, it’ll include the vacuum routing for the trans modulator. If a 700R4 or a manual, you don’t have to worry about that part. Be sure not to...

    Slow and labored power windows

Check your grounds, check your battery resting voltage, and check your alternator output at the alternator and at the battery if this issue is happening with the vehicle running. If you’re missing a ground or one’s making poor contact, this can happen. You can also lubricate the run channels...

Metal Treasures in the Oil Pan...

Haha, I guess you’re truck is singing “yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.” I’ll be singing the same thing in the not too distant future. Anyway, apologies for your troubles, and welcome aboard.

    Brakes a Mess

@Vbb199 might be able to save you on that one from a parts standpoint.

    Brakes a Mess

No, I’m afraid not. I almost did because I knocked the weights off one of them, but I got some weights off a five lug drum and repaired (or at least tried) it to avoid getting a new one if possible when the old one was still in good shape inside.

    Brakes a Mess

I repaired my drum, got the links, and springs that had broken off from a junk C10, and put it back together somewhat, but something’s wrong. At least I think it is, or I don’t know as much about drum brakes as I thought. The issue is with the bar. The front shoe isn’t making full contact with...

    Help

If it has an NP203, it’s already full-time unless someone converted it with a part-time kit. Conventional for our is mostly part-time, but that’s not universal since there are a good many NP203s out there. Anyway, the problem that concerns me is the gasket being crunched into that little box...

rear wheel antilock (RWAL) system - ditch it?

Was the vacuum line there on the one in question? If so, and you don’t have plans for it, the switch can go if you so desire.

Anyone know how to change the radio light bulb?

I’m offensive, and I find this joke Polish.

    Stock replacement shocks

I’ve almost always used Monroe with good results. The only exception is I used Gabriel for my steering stabilizer because it was viscous (oil-filled) instead of gas charged, which I didn’t want to install it and have to fight a stronger tendency for the thing to want to decompress and pull to...

    Speedometer wire question

That’s the VSS buffer wire. It’s a Hall effect sensor so it ‘sees’ the rotation of the speedo to figure out your speed and send that info to the cruise control and, in your case, the ECM, as well.

    WTB: Brake Hardware

I’ve got a six lug Corp. 10 Bolt and 11” brakes. I need at least one wheel cylinder - brake shoe link, but if you have any extras I’ll take up to four. If anyone’s got a spare drum that’s got some life to it before I have to go hunt down a new one, I’d take that. Or even two of the weights that...

    Opinion on "high mileage"

That’s amazing! Good for GM in 1999. I don’t know where they were on giving up on passenger cars at that point, frankly I assumed they had by that point, but I guess they still turned out a few that worked well. Hell, even for the consistently awful carmakers, a broken clock is right twice a...

Question about backfire on throttle release

I’m talking about detonation or pre-ignition. It’s hard to describe, almost like a tinny, crunchy sound. If it’s not doing it at idle or under load/acceleration, you’re in good shape, and I’d press for the highest number possible. 350s seem to be universally safe at 12*. Some can handle more, a...

    Brakes a Mess

The good news is that it’s just one: the rear DS brake. The bad news is I hate drum brakes. I knew because it was pulling to the right when braking even though the front have already been done, and are in perfect shape. I pulled this drum and found... One wheel cylinder link missing and the...

Question about backfire on throttle release

Did it ping with more timing than that? If not, it take it all the way to 12* base and see if you can recover some of what it lost.

Question about backfire on throttle release

I’d start with 6* BTDC base, and if it’s better, see what 10-12* BTDC does for you.

Okay, so that other TVS could be for that. It’s not supposed to lock up until you’re at operating temp so there definitely needs to be a thermal control somewhere. It’ll derive vacuum from the carb and go to the TVS and then the switch. There’s also supposed to be a delay valve in the vacuum...

Question about backfire on throttle release

Maybe the float level’s a little too high or the idle mixture is way too rich. It sounds like that’d be the direction you adjusted it, and then there’s another issue going on that richening up helped to mitigate. I’d keep this in mind, and my next concern is definitely timing. It wouldn’t...

rear wheel antilock (RWAL) system - ditch it?

One’s for the brake lights and TCC lockup disengage. The one for the cruise should have a vacuum line going to it from the servo. It interrupts vacuum to release the servo. If the RWAL system interfaces with a switch, it’ll be the actual stoplamp switch. I don’t think GM ever really got RWALB...

    14 bolt 10.5 rebuild questions

I went with Motive Gear, and the rear end shop who did mine said that was a good brand. Their emphasis was on using quality oil, a good limited slip additive, and playing by the rules during the break in period. This means stopping and letting it cool and not driving more than 55 during the...

Welcome. You’re really close to me, less than two hours, which for here is close. That’s the cruise control release switch for when you press the brakes. If you want cruise, you definitely need that leak fixed. If not, then no.

Is the truck a California emissions truck or a Canada truck? Does an orange SES light or a red Choke light come on when you first turn the key? The reason I ask is if it was a California truck, the ECM controls your TCC lockup. If not, the vacuum switch is supposed to be on the firewall. What...
