    done the add a leaf!

22 years ago I paid $350 for a Rancho 4 inch suspension lift with blocks, and a new steering arm. I also bought 6 Rancho RS-5000 Gas Shocks, for $25 bucks apiece, plus another RS-5000 Steering Stabilizer. Back then I was running 36' Buckshot Radial Mudders. Trucks still the same other than the...

    Rock Auto Rocks!!

I just ordered a new passenger side outer tie rod for my 87 V20 for under $15 with shipping included. Not bad for a Mcquay Norris tie rod, it was on closeout. Drivers side is still tight however if they would have had it on closeout in the 1" thread size I would have bought it. Clayton

    White-Lettered Tires

I've got to clean mine up, they've bleached out onto the black wall due to the truck sitting outside for a while. Since they are wearing even I've thought about flipping them around to blackwall. Clayton

    Valve cover gaskets.

I would just get a set of the good rubber cork gaskets and maybe use a little sealer with them. I've really never had a problem with mine. Don't over tighten them. I haven't replaced mine in over six years, and mine are the center bolt covers. Unless your exhaust manifolds are right up on them...

    Valve cover gaskets.

When I worked for a transmission shop we would always toss out the rubber gasket that came with the filter kit and substitute a cork/rubber gasket instead. The owner kept pan gaskets for every transmission made. The oil pan on my 87 is the one piece rubber gasket. I used The Right Stuff Gasket...

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

I just split the pex on one side and slipped it over the pin and rolled it so the split is facing the inside of the truck so you don't see it. Works great, and it only cost me $1.78 for a five foot piece of pex. Thanks guy's for the how to on this easy fix. Clayton

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

I just recieved my 1986-1987 Chevy Light Duty Shop And Overhaul Manuals CD. It includes the 86 Shop, and wiring diagram manuals, the 87 Shop, and Fuel and Emissions Manual, and the 87 Overhaul Manual. It's nice, I've got a great diagram that shows all the lines going into the selector valve...

Power Steering Pump - Crazy Question

I don't care how pretty it is as long as it works. I remember rebuilding them way back when I was in tech school learning about electrical systems. If I have the time and the parts are available I'll rebuild it. Last time I lost my alternator I was leaving town to go elk hunting when the diodes...

Power Steering Pump - Crazy Question

Me too. Also add to this countless alternators, and starters. Working at Firestone I had my fair share of bad parts right out of the box. It sucks when you're flat rate and you have to do a job twice due to bad parts. When it came to stuff like this we tried to buy new over remanufactured parts...

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

Only fuel filter I have is the metal one thats after the switch valve. You know the one with the factory plumbed threaded fitted lines. I'll look into plumbing in some filters before the valve. I might have gotten the lines crossed at the pump. All I had for replacement line at the time was the...

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

Looks like I've got a six port valve. Anybody know how the fuel lines are ran for an 87 as to diffrerentiate between the two tanks at the four port connection at the back of the valve. I want to see if I've got my lines hooked up properly at my fuel pump. If not I can just switch em at the...

Glove box is a bear to open...

Sounds like you need to get another whole assembly. I had to do this twenty years ago when I had my 73 K-5 Blazer. I got one from a wrecking yard and took it to my neighborhood locksmith who cleaned it and rekeyed it for me. Clayton

    Frustrateing Fuel Delivery......

If the tanks rusted real bad try to get a replacement from a wrecking yard. And try to get one that hasn't been sitting there forever. You might luck out and get one thats got a good pump and sending unit in it. Otherwise flush out your old tank and install a new sending unit and pump. Clayton

    454 EGR malfunction?

Remove the EGR valve and clean it with carb cleaner. Also clean the manifold mounting area, might have to use a brush. These are famous for getting all carbonned up and causing problems like you're having. They're not cheap either. It might be defective but I'ed still try to clean it first...

    Frustrateing Fuel Delivery......

I just installed an AC Delco pump that I got off Ebay for $40. It came with the pump, filter sock, and the installation kit that included the tank o-ring gasket, wire harness, clamps, and a piece of fuel line to attach the new pump to the sending unit, plus a noise deadening boot that goes over...

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

This is a great idea, I probably sucked a piece of dirt into the valve when I switched to the tank that I put the new pump in. The tank itself was clean and I drained it completely of any old fuel. I'm going to try to make some time today to go underneath and see which valve I have. Thanks Luke...

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

Thanks Kenny, It's kind of weird that the valve would go out after I replaced the pump. But then again I've only been running off the other tank for the past year and the truck has sat alot. In other words I haven't been switching back and forth between the two tanks. Which valve did you have...

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

I put the new lines on the way the old ones came off. I lengthened them to make it easier to reconnect them. When the original ones were installed the bed was off the truck. And I used Rubber fuel injection line. I wonder if I sucked a piece of dirt into the switch valve. Clayton

    Bad Fuel Tank Selector Valve?

I replaced the rubber lines at the tank and I made sure they were all connected properly to the sending unit. Is it possible to flush out the selector valve?. I might have a piece of dirt or something making it not function properly. Clayton

    Ball Joint Replacement

Hope your floors level. I'ed just take it in to a reputable shop and have it aligned. I worked for Firestone so I did my own work, and alignments. Take your rig for a test drive after you have it aligned just to make sure it's tracking straight and not pulling. If your tires are worn more on one...

    Ball Joint Replacement

I think realignment is also included in that quote, I did this type of work and alignments when I worked for Firestone. It takes about an hour and a half to do everything when you have all the tools and have done it a few times. I never used the ball joint removal tool. I used an impact socket...
