What have you done to your square lately??

The first time I ever attempted to fix a brake line on my '95 Burb, I tried using compression fittings, and they didn't hold very long at all. I then did it semi properly by flaring them (WITH A BALL PEEN HAMMER AND VIDE GRIPS) and it actually worked. Now I actually have the proper flaring...

    Shade-Tree Tranny Removal

I've gotten good at removing my saginaw 3 speed from my truck. In fact I once timed myself (after I Installed the clutch fork wrong after installing the junkyard motor) I pulled it out Nd put it back in/hooked everything up in about 45 minutes. Even though they are cast iron, these...

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

Many years ago, we breifly lived in a subdivision. One day, my dad buys a camper and parks it right in front of our house. Some dickweed called the police the following day saying that there was an abandoned camper in front of our house. It's not like it was a crappy looking camper that...

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

I started the Burb to warm it up this morning then went back inside, slicked my and got dressed. I come back outside to discover that it quit. I then noticed that the gas gauge really meant it when it said E, (you can usually get about 90 or so miles out of that 42 gallon tank after it says E)...

    Unwritten rules of mouldings?

If there are any unwritten rules of moldings, I broke them all. After picking up some 2 toned doors, I decided to 2 tone the rest of the truck, but I didn't want to pay the LMC prices, so I went to the junkyard and was only able to find some mangled front moldings. I ended up substituting...

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

My yellow truck runs real good and smooth, but has low oil pressure and some pretty worn main bearings. (I found a couple metal shavings on the dip stick once) It was starting to rattle a bit, so I just changed the oil with 5 quarts of 20w50 (I had been topping it off with 10w40) and 1 quart of...

What have you done to your square lately??

After nearly 3 years of ownership, I finally got new wiper blades (the old ones were probably 20 years old).

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

I was just going to say that a good way to deal with people like that is to just smash their head up into the frame or open the door on them.

First truck, first restoration. Should be fun. 1979 Scottsdale k10

MANN, you are making good time on this restoration. I know people say you should enjoy the journey, but I understand you want to get it on the road by the time you get your license. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/a-half-ass-restoration-of-a-truck-that-arguable-doesnt-deserve-it.29533/ I'm...

Weird gas in oil problems (bad second tank)

If I were you, I'd go to the junkyard and pick up a whole tbi unit for $20, and stick it on to see if it fixes the problem. If it does, then it is probably something you did while trying to rebuild it (god knows I've screw up plenty of times rebuilding carburetors). Also the bad gas thing...

    Cab swap?

It should pretty much bolt right up to the body mounts, and doors but you might have to drill a couple of holes and stuff to mount the dash, pedals, and maybe the fenders, but many have done the swap in the past. (I've never done the swap myself, but I assume that any differences can be taken...

    454+th350 strange rattle

My '74 has always made a similar noise on acceleration (even with a different engine, trans, clutch, flywheel, and exhaust it still makes it).

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

This old tired motor leaks SOOOOOO MUCH OIL. I'm adding about 2-3 quarts a week, and that's just going 18 miles to work. If I actually go across town, or drive any larger distances, I might go though several in a day. I'm going to borrow a hoist, and replace that rear main seal soon (it's...

Cab and door rust, fix or replace?

Instead of buying a whole cab, I'd just go to a junkyard and cut the rusted part out of a good cab. I don't know about texas, but around here, they charge around $15 per square foot cut. I've cur wheel wells out of beds on gmt400s there and saved money on patch panels. The key to this is to...

Cab and door rust, fix or replace?

Those doors are probably repairable, but I'd be on the look out for new doors. I got the doors for my truck for $75 off of Craigslist. They were the right year/door panel, had minimal rust, and were even the right color. As for the door jam, I'd just form a piece, weld it in, and be done...

    Show your daily driver

I swear, every time I try to replace the Yellow Truck as my daily driver I get kicked in the balls. Whenever the yellow truck breaks, it doesn't fully, it just becomes pretty undriveable (it is always there if I absolutely need to drive it) My practically brand new '98 Busburban all of a...

    Show your daily driver

I just spruced the Burb up, new Exhaust manifold, new grille, new wheels/tires, new radio, new mirrors, and some rust repair. She's ready to be daily driven (just need to get plates).

What have you done to your square lately??

I just found out why I shouldn't have mounted my mirrors with self tappers. I hit a bump, and the mirror almost fell off, so I'm going to have to get some bolts on there

What have you done to your square lately??

Yea, the rear main/front seals are shot. I should have replaced them when I had the motor out. I replaced the oil pan gasket, some freeze plugs, a rod bearing, but not the rear main seal (the leak didn't start until recently though).

Looking for my Dad's first truck

Though it doesn't match it exactly, there's a chance it may be my truck (I suspect that it might have spent time in Ohio). It's a '74 half ton with a 250 (not 292) 3 on the tree, and a homemade wooden stock rack. (This is what it looks like now, 2 years after I bought it). Also its Ochre...

    Hood installation and line-up

I'm with him, nothing lined up well from the factory. One thing that can scew up alignment is aftermarket hood hinges. My perfect on my '74 got bent because of an aftermarket hood hinge. After fixing the hood, I found myself one in a junkyard, and it now lines up a lot better.
