455 Olds in place of 454 in 76 GMC (frame to engine mounts?)

I believe that trucks with the olds 350 diesel have the correct frame mounts for the 455. I don't think they remake them though

    Engine Rebuild or Replace???

I'd pull the heads off before you decide (dissadembly is usually easier than assembly if you have an air ratchet) and take a look at the general condition of the engine. This gives you the added bonus of not having to commit to either option (you could just replace the gaskets and stick it back...

    Brakes have no stopping power

    Get a louder horn.

What have you done to your square lately??

All new from the manifold back! I had a local guy do it in under 2 hours for a very good deal. For the first time ever, I can actually hear the radio while I'm on the interstate. It is definitely a lot better than my previous cobbled together mess. Now time to fix all of the wind noise.

Pick the fav car you owned but follow instructions:

In the few years that I've been owning cars, I've owned about 7 of them: 2007 Chevrolet Suburban (Absolute pile of rusty crap that was handed down to me shortly before the the transmission went out). 1999 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE (Was my grandmother's, I got it running again after 5 years...

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I drove it around a bit today, but there is apparently a group of rioters targeting white neighborhoods (that also apparently let a bunch of animals out of my local zoo). What is this world coming to? At least I got a kick ass truck to drive after infrastructure disintegrates.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Its alive! I got it all in, and it finally runs. Not too good, but it sounds healthier than the old engine ever did Now I just need an exhaust (I think I am actually going to have it done by a local shop once since my exhaust making skills are not stellar.).

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I got it all looking pretty. Now just for the shit work.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I got the engine power washed and its basically ready for paint. Also, I spruced up the engine bay a bit with some spray cans. I also got to work resealing the engine and found that the rod bearing for cylinder No. 5 was just the slightest bit loose (maybe 0.005 inches of play). I never heard...

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I'm degreasing the new motor. I've decided not to go ahead with hotrodding this one even though I got the parts. I'd weather rebuild the original and go all the way with it. Also, I found that my 194 head needs some serious machine work before I can reuse it (a piece of the melted piston...

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Also, I can hand that transmission in and out in about 2 hours. I've done it so many times that I've gotten good at it.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

No, I literally replaced it last month, there is less than 1000 miles on it.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I got it out, $100 bucks to rent the hoist for the week. A bit much, but I don't have a buddy to mooch one off of. I am able to mooch an engine stand off of buddy though.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Well, as I mentioned, I bought that engine just for its head, and I had it running on the engine before it blew up. I also plan to use it on my new engine along with a new camshaft.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

No, but I got a shiny new points distributor.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Part of the deal, though was that I had to help the guy I bought it off of pull the engine. It was great practice for when I do it on my truck though. I hope to rent an engine hoist tomorrow.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

It didn't run bad, it wouldn't run at all. That piston was seizing up the engine, though I might have been able to get it running, though if I had pull started the truck.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Here are some more pictures of the engine after we got it out of the back of my friends truck (and had a hernia). It came from a '72 Nova, and I don't even think that the valve cover has been off of this engine. It has the original carburetor and I think even the original plug wires.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Maybe I should try fixing the piston with JB Weld, see how long it would run.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I got the new 250. It came from a '72 Nova and runs great despite being super greasy.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

Yea, I am considering a sbc, but I found a great deal on a low mileage 250, and I already have a preformance camshaft/high compression head that would bolt right up.

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

No, but I did have my radio turned way up.
  23. jjester6000

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I could rebuild it, but it is a lot easier to just get another engine and swap it in. I have this Mint 194 I6 that I bought for the cylinder head that I could swap in. The issue is that I would probably get lynched if I did so. I am now looking for a new engine. Maybe another 250, or even a...

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I was going down the interstate at about 75mph when all of a sudden I lost all power and the engine died. The truck had been running great for the past few weeks, so I didn't know what happened. I checked for fuel/spark, but there was no problem. It also sounded weird when cranking, as if the...

    Floor pan or patch?

Yea, I'd also do rockers while you're there, but the floor looks repairable.
