    Rear axle replacement

I count 12 teeth on the pinion - not 15.. The tooth count is stamped on the outer edge of the ring gear.... If that mark is not legible, simply count the teeth.. Divide that number by 12 and that's your ratio... If your 41 count is accurate, 41/12 = 3.42.....

    Fuel Hose OK ?

Rick, I've posted my advice based on 35 years' experience as a mechanic.. He chose to ignore it. Any more discussion on my part I consider a waste of my time..

    Lost my rear end.

Now hold on a minute!!!! You guys are talking a complete replacement or rebuild.. My money is on a worn out "C" clip, or the end of the axle broke off at the "C" clip groove and walked out of the housing.. Worst case scenario, you damaged the housing in the axle bearing area, but more than...

    Fuel Hose OK ?

Not a good idea at all.. Exposure to heat causes the line to harden and crack.. Leaking fuel in the engine compartment never ends well..

    Electrical gremlin

The light issues you're having are typical symptoms of loss of or missing grounds. There is no set of detailed instructions for repairing a specific symptom of a bad ground. Grounding is a system, not a single circuit application. Pointing to a specific faulty ground is at best, difficult...

gauges are driving me nuts- gauge power ignition wires?

All circuits have protection, either a fuse or fusible link.. In the case of the gauges, there is a fuse in the fuse box marked "gauge(s)".. As I explained in my post, start there.. If you have voltage on the terminal where it plugs into the instrument panel but no voltage on the circuit board...

gauges are driving me nuts- gauge power ignition wires?

Lets' get back to basics.. Checking continuity is all well and good, provided it's done properly.. Very first thing to check is fuses.. Make absolutely positive the gauge fuse is good, making good contact, and not blown.. Turn on the ignition switch and, using a test light or DVM, test for...

    Mysterious wire under the dash

This probably won't work for the OP, but I learned a trick many years ago when replacing the stalk integrated CC switch. Unplug the harness from the module.. Look closely and find the small hole in the plug on the end of the harness.. Using a 22 - 28 gauge copper wire about 30 inches long...

Car hauler issues. How can I fix this. I dont know trailer parts.

Not UP --- Forward, nearer the diamond plate triangle.. Involves cutting through the four welds and rewelding in new location... There's plenty room for it to fold and lock.

That device is called a tongue jack.. Simple solution.. Remove it and relocate it further forward......

    Blown head gasket questions

When the hot exhaust contacts the cold air, condensate will form. that's the white cloud seen at the tail pipes of automobiles.. That's not to say that's the cause of the white smoke you're seeing.. The symptoms you've described are not all conclusive for a blown head gasket. Here's one step...

    Unusual radio issue

Matt, it's been a loooong time since I've done any automotive custom sound installations so I have very little experience with today's systems. You may have already considered this suggestion.. Disconnect all power providing wires/sources to the radio. Attach a volt meter to the ignition hot...

How do yall ground your Alternator?

Think about it.. The alternator housing is aluminum.. Check out a factory stock aluminum accessory bracket on the engines equipped with a serpentine belt arrangement. From the factory, these have no "ground wire" attached to the alternator.. So to answer you question -- yes, your alternator is...

How do yall ground your Alternator?

The battery negative cable is attached to the engine block. If not, it should be.. The alternator is bolted solidly to the block. If not, it should be. This question begs to be asked --- Why do you need another ground path for the alternator??

    Horn has no power

Eighty5ov, this is not meant to be disrespectful or criticizing your choice of steering wheels. Grant has the worse designed horn mechanism on the market.. Very cheaply made and always problematic. That may be the root cause of your horn not working. LeCarra has a great selection of steering...

No Horn, Courtesy or Bed light

The one circled and the one above it where the orange wire is plugged in are joined together on the back of the fuse box, and are fed from a common source. They are always hot and protected by a common fusible link. If one is hot and the other not, the problem is on the back of the fuse box. If...

    Horn has no power

I think you may not understand the term "continuity".. Electrical work and problem solving is, to some, a mystery because the electrons flowing through all those wires are invisible. Unlike a coolant or oil leak, they don't leave a trail behind for one to follow. Go back and read post #3.. The...

    Horn has no power

First thing to check is the fuse. If the fuse is good, the following applies. The horn circuit works similar to the dome light circuit. The dome light bulb is "hot" all the time, the circuit has to be grounded for the light to come on. In the horn circuit, the relay winding has to be grounded to...

    Flywheel and Pressure plate bolts

I'd be more concerned about all that rust on the crankshaft flange which pilot bearing is best.,, It has to be dead square with the main bearing bore or the flywheel will wobble.. You may be looking at removing the crankshaft and having that flange re-machined, flywheel too...

78 Silverado Big Ten Grounding Issues???

I have no explanation for the "static electricity in the air".. An alternator isn't designed to charge a battery, only to keep it fully charged.. Doing so will soon cause the alternator to fail.. Have you determined that you do actually have a drain and not just a failing/bad battery?? A battery...

    Installing windshield in a Squarebody

I've never heard of installing the gasket on the pinch weld first.. My guess is you've been watching the wrong video.. Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's true, or in this case, correct.

    Neutral safety switch connector

That's terrible advice from Painless. Don't cut the wires.. Removing the connector and installing individual terminals just leads to confusion as to which terminal the individual wires connect to. The NSS is actually two switches, one is for the starter disable, and the other is for the backup...

    Interior light mystery

This topic was thoroughly covered in a thread just last week.. Before you get started, you'll need two special tools.. #1 - a wiring diagram for your truck. #2 - a 12 volt test light or digital voltmeter.. Here's a link to that thread...

    Daisy chaining grounds?

Thank you, Randy for the compliment. There is absolutely no need to "daisy chain" the ground points together.. The steel body panels do that just fine.. Use the pig tail on the battery ground cable for grounding the core support. Ground the large battery cable directly to the engine. Do not...
