Fuel problems got me good this time.

Ain't it great when a good plan comes together :happy107:... Congrats on getting it fixed.. And I also want to commend you for giving us you attention and following instructions.. You're a good student..:winner_first_h4h:

    Head gasket but strange?

Pipe thread, especially 1/8" threads are easily damaged.. Pipe threads are tapered and designed to seal as the 2 parts are tightened against each other.. Hand tight and no sealant will not seal against a pressurized liquid.. I'm curious, as I suspect others are also.. We'd like to see a picture...

Good deal.. Take a look at the things I mentioned and get back to me with your findings..

Fuel problems got me good this time.

Read my last post again.. "a wee tad" is not acceptable.. You can't see inside the housing to check the cable itself.. The cable is made up of several strands much like a rope.. If just one of those strands break it will jamb, it's just a matter of time.. What you describe as a "wee tad of...

No need to apologize.. I'm here to teach not scold or reprimand.. Did you attach that smaller ground to the original location?? What about the braided ground strap between the rear of the passenger side head and the body? I couldn't see it in your pics.. If you don't have one, get one...

Fuel problems got me good this time.

It's not a crossover "tube".. It's a passage in the intake manifold that crosses from one side to the other directly under the carburetor.. I's below where the intake runners converge at the carburetor.. There's corresponding passages or ports in the both heads.. The tube I spoke of enters this...

    Where to find adapters

X2.. I'd re-drill hubs and axles before I'd run wheel adaptors..

Fuel problems got me good this time.

After 20 minutes of driving and the choke plate is still half closed tells me the thermostatic choke spring isn't being heated.. The spring has to get hot and unwind.. This pulls the rod down and opens the choke plate.. The reason for the high rpm is because the fast idle cam is still "engaged"...

    Head gasket but strange?

The hole in the block for the oil pressure sender fitting is 1/8" PIPE threads, not machine threads for a bolt.. Although very similar in diameter and thread count, they are not a match.. That could be the source of your leak, but more importantly, if you forced the bolt in very far, you've...

    Another quadrajet or edelbrock?

Sorry I'm late.. I received an invitation your party, but I've been pre-occupied with other matters.. I don't want to come across as bragging but I've been working on Q-Jets since they were first introduced decades ago.. I'm retired from auto repair, so I don't do it for money anymore, just for...

Fuel system choice for new 350 crate engine for 87 blazer

I'm thinking the same thing.. But if it were me I'd run 8 Tillotsons on a log manifold.. Keep your foot it all day long and still get good mileage..

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Over the years, Q-Jet used a couple different fuel inlet designs.. One was straight out the front pointing straight ahead.. Another had the inlet pointing to the passenger side of the engine.. Some filter housings were short, only about an inch or so long.. Others were a bit longer, closer to 3...

    Alternator charging too much?

13.8 - 14.2 is spec for that alternator.. 14.5 is just barely below boiling.. Why buy a complete alternator when a new voltage regulator will take care of it.. Good advice @hatzie

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Starter inrush current on those 6 volt air cooled VWs was a serious problem.. I don't know how many of those relays I've put on those things....

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Bad battery cables, loose cable and/or corroded connections, starter not having a good electrical connection to the block, battery not up to the task - all are contributing factors.. Those clamp-on replacement battery cable terminals are the worse for causing that problem.. A normal good working...

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Giving the vapor pressure of today's gasoline, fuel evaporation and/or vapor lock was probably not the problem. Witness fuel line wrap not solving the problem. If the engine was way down on compression, hot start would be a problem.. If the carburetor reservoir was empty, after sitting awhile...

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Yes, it's just that simple.. Unlike fuel injection that requires pressure to deliver the fuel, a carburetor needs only a vacuum source.. A couple "pumps" of the gas pedal, crank the engine and the carburetor take over...

Fuel lines: Aluminum vs Steel vs Stainless

Since the fuel level in the carburetor reservoir is below the needle/seat, there's no way for fuel to siphon out.. NO WAY.. If fuel is disappearing from the reservoir, the carburetor has problems that installing a check valve will not correct.. Aluminum is not a good choice for engine mounted...

    Edelbrock float height

No, we're not looking at it wrong.. The guy had the "book" right there in front of him, yet he chose to come here instead of looking it up.. I and others view that as wanting to be spoon fed information instead of reading and studying.. If he didn't understand something about the instructions or...

    T.V. cable, ignition & pics

I was looking at the picture of your carburetor and then noticed your post #5 about brake drag.. This may or not be a contributing factor, probably not... Those stout screen door springs are a no-no.. They only cause additional wear to the throttle body and shaft, ultimately resulting in air...
