    K5 Windshield and seal recommendations?

I replaced a windshield and gasket with my old man last summer. I second grit dogs recommendation for a Precision brand gasket with the lock strip. It worked for me and it doesnt leak (no liquid sealant required). The assembly tools he mentioned are also 100% necessary. I got my Precision...

    Ball Joints Need Adjustment?

It's been awhile, but there is a procedure to torquing the ball joints. If I remember correctly, the lower ball joint is torqued first but not all the way. Then the upper ball joint is torqued to spec. Lastly the lower ball joint is torqued to its final spec. Regarding the sleeve, I would...

    clunking axle

He's talking about the rear axle. Outer wheel bearing is pressed into the axle tube, but the axle itself slides out freely once the c-clips are removed. I've owned several GM's with 10 bolts, but have never noticed the clicking you described.

    Wires coming from transfercase

That's not how it works... My k20 has a k30 VIN, from a similar body swap situation to yours, but that doesn't make it a one ton. Go to the parts store and ask what transfer case is in your c10.

    O'Reilly sux balls !!!

I've walked out of O'Reillys under very similar circumstances in the not too distant past. It seems like their pricing model has changed withing the last few years, making them not such a budget friendly option.

Need advice on what to do with old bed liner and while we are at it sealing up these scratches.

It looks great Rob. IMO, I think butting the edges and taping them from underneath would give you a better chance of sliding barrels on top. The raised overlap might catch. On the other hand, once you cut it you can't put it back. Maybe try it out first? Please let me know how it works. If...

    Squishy brakes- help!

Check your rear brakes before buying a disc conversion. If the rear brake shoes are way out of adjustment, i.e. loose, you won't get them to bleed right. You won't get the proper pedal feel either.

    1976 K/10 $2500

Depends on the damage. Certainly not too high if it's just a busted ignition in the steering column.

Automatic transmission newbie asking basic questions

It's called clocking the transfer case. Off road guys do it for the additional ground clearance you mentioned. I think it requires some new or modified parts though. I've never had the need or desire to look into it beyond that. The "clocking" terminology should help you in your search.

    87 350 tbi exhaust chirp

If the pipes are separate without a crossover, the noise you're hearing probably isn't coming from inside either pipe. Nothing engine related should be chirping through both heads and exhaust pipes. You're probably hearing a rub or vibration from somewhere else. Maybe both of your mufflers...

    Ignition won’t turn

A broken ignition rack usually gives some play in the ignition/key still, right? I've had one break, but I've never heard of one breaking and instantly jamming up the cylinder. Could the shift linkage be worn out enough that the the ignition switch doesn't recognize that the trans is in park...

No advice here, but you have my full encouragement. I'm always interested to see what you come up with, Rob. It's usually real good stuff.

    87 350 tbi exhaust chirp

I've never heard an exhaust chirp that I recall. Could it be a rubber mount on an exhaust hanger chirping as the exhaust vibrates or bounces around? Also, how are you sure it's coming from the tailpipe under acceleration? Aren't you driving up in the cab? Acoustics can play tricks on a guy.

Automatic transmission newbie asking basic questions

Thanks for the heads up. I am slightly concerned... but having an extra np208 that worked when pulled is still going to keep that input seal from being my top priority.

Automatic transmission newbie asking basic questions

To build on that... my k10 does this. I add fluid to keep the trans at the appropriate operating level and let the transfer case run high. I simply don't want to pull the transfer case since I have higher priority projects. This may have negative affects I'm unaware of??? I only use 4wd in snow...

Automatic transmission newbie asking basic questions

From my understanding, a 700-R4 and your transfer case share a small amount of fluid. That's why the piece between the two is sealed to both with rtv. If the input seal is bad on your transfer case, it can take more than it's fair share of fluid and become overfilled. This leaves your trans...

I need help and to know what this truck is worth

He bought it in 1991 without a title, and parked it in 1992... Sounds like a red flag to me. That depends on what exactly that tree has swaller'd up. The rear bumpers have corner braces that go back to the frame. I'm guessing the tree has a good hold on the corner brace. Can you access...

I need help and to know what this truck is worth

^ Good point. Tree has to go before any cash changes hands. Definitely don't give him more than $1000. And then, only if you have a solid plan to get a title for it.

    Careful buying online- Camaro 1979

PO probably blew up the rear end beating on it and put it back together with a free, or very cheap, open carrier and gear set just to get it road worthy and saleable. Tell the man he needs a set of 3.42's or 3.73's before any engine modifications or power adders. Go 4.10 if there's ever a...
