    85 305 in a k1500 - wont idle after smog removal

I always thought vacuum advance was supposed to run off a ported vacuum source on the carburetor? If the vacuum advance was reconnected to a non-ported manifold vacuum source, if wouldn't idle the same as it did before removing the smog stuff. Then messing with the idle screws only brought...

Swaping engine internals opinions, and does this look bad to you?

Have you asked them what it'd cost? I had a 350 crankshaft turned a couple years ago. They took 0.010" off the main and rod journals to clean it up. Cost me $150 with the undersized bearings. That did not include shipping, since the shop was local to me, but they are very competent and...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

I kill more birds than that, but I don't kill eagles. ^ These are the two take-aways. Most everything else is highly opinionated, and not worth arguing over. Thanks for your real world example, @77 K20.

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

I'm still running that tire daily. Thousands of miles later. No plug(s) were needed. It was sticking in the side near the outer edge of the tire. It actually might've been the silly rock crawler lookin' side wall tread on these new BFGs that saved my tire. The OP's new Cooper's have a...

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

A year and a half ago after scouting a new field for goose hunting, I found this sticking out the side wall of my rear passenger's side tire (BFG). It was really jammed in there, and survived the 30+ mile drive home after scouting. I wish I'd have taken a picture of it still in the tire, but I...

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

I know I'm plat to the party, but better late than never. BFG changed from the KO's to the KO2's in late 2016 or early 2017, so about 5 years ago. I have set of KO2's on my '85 K10 from 2017 and @AuroraGirl has a set of original KO's on one of her rigs from 2016. I love my BFG's and plan to...

Why are brake hard lines coiled?

Interesting stuff, guys. I love Keith's old assembly line photos. Priceless stuff right there!

    Hi from MN

Yes it does. My advice is to troll Craigslist and Marketplace daily. The good trucks don't last more than two or three days up here. Anything that's older than a month is still sitting around for a reason. I troll regularly for my next K10 or K20. I'll keep you in mind if I see any nice...

Headers for economy on 82 K10?

Manifolds in '87 didn't have the ports for the air injection off the smog pump??? What years had the air injection system?

Need honest quote for this truck, not a I know what I have?

Yay! That truck deserves many more miles, and many more smiles. There's already plenty of half disassembled trucks hidden in garages throughout the USA. Keep the whole ones whole!

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

Biased opinions countering biased opinions from the article. I'm not going to deny that many of the points made in the article are biased, but many are not, which is why I decided to share it in the first place. In all honesty, I really prefer the end of the article over the 19 "ownership...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

I will agree that some of the points in the article are certainly biased, but I don't think many of them qualify as "fallacies". I will also agree that EVs have a place in modern society, but it is not the ICE replacement we're being lead to believe. I do not own an electric vehicle...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

I hadn't heard about that, but I looked it up. Thankfully it's just a bill in Washington at this point, not law. The article I read said, "The bill says that all vehicles of the model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in the state must be electric." I can't imagine...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

I totally agree. I can't fathom the possibility of a complete phase out. Many of the problems mentioned in the article will come to light as the EVs are continually pushed and subsidized. I also found the closing notes on fuel cell powered vehicles to be interesting. Seems like there's more...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

https://www.circuitinsight.com/programs/56003.html I came across this article today and thought it was something worth sharing. It mentions all the realities of battery electric vehicles that the mainstream media doesn't bother to mention. Keep some of these points in mind for your next beer...

    My Starting Over/Midlife Crisis '83? C/K 20/30 Death Trap

Welcome! ^^^ Look out for the oil jugs. They can certainly take over some valuable garage space if you're not careful. Parts are usually worth keeping, but the oil jugs can be hard to justify to your significant other.

Bluieprint 383 stroker ISSUES Bad idle.

I had idle troubles with my old '84 K10, though it wasn't a brand new engine. One day it wouldn't stay running on the way home from hunting unless I feathered the throttle. Driving down the road it was okay. Somehow the screws holding the carb to the intake had gotten loose creating a vacuum...

    14 bolt gear ratio?

The 200-4R that you mentioned is becoming harder to find. 700-R4's are much more plentiful. Just something to consider if you do really want the overdrive.

    Hub question

^^^ This is always worth checking after you get the bearings installed and torqued. If there's no play, take it apart and do it again. I think I remember reading a spec. of 0.005" - 0.010" but don't quote me on that. Regardless of the correct value, there should be a little play.

    Stripped Holes in Rally Wheels

Yes, but a #8 screw only has a diameter of 0.164". Will an 8-32 heli coil will fill up the >0.3" hole and accept the 0.164" screw? I'm not too familiar with heli coils, but that seems like a lot of space to fill up with the insert.

    Stripped Holes in Rally Wheels

I'm guessing I'm not the only one whos had this issue, but I couldn't find any other threads on it. One of my 15" rally wheels only has one hole left with good threads for mounting the center cap. I tried running it with a single screw, but the center cap wants to vibrate loose. I removed the...
