Still here - taking up shop floor space. If it doesn't get picked up, I'll burn it in the Spring and haul the steel away. Free to pick up when you come through Hamilton, MT on vacation - or whatever.

What have you done to your square lately??

There was a woman in Garden Grove, CA with the whole ARA catalog in her head --- and the whole store's inventory too. She knew any and all possible interchanges for one part to another --- especially for an obsolete system. She was super. They fired her because she refused to put everything...

What have you done to your square lately??

I converted all my interior lights to 3" LED lightbars. I'm old and I wanna see what's inside the vehicle more than I wanna look cool. Cool for my 2005 Chevy Trail Blazer, with blue interior LEDs and morgue-black rear windows.

    Differential setup

BACKLASH is what is left when all the other settings are correct. Backlash never is something that is a goal although it HAS to be within logical reason! If the tooth pattern is correct, then changing the depth of the pinion or the side-shift of the carrier to get a nice tight backlash is...

What have you done to your square lately??

Got it! No more vibrations and no more fuzzy mirrors! I am terribly disappointed at the company that built these blocks and their stagnant attitude that they are right and I was wrong. If anyone's interested, they can PM me for the name of this anal-retentive company.

    Quadrajet question

I am not sure of E-85 --- but methanol is a great chill factor because it's surface pressure is so low. In the end --- I use my Rochesters because I can and I know them an-n-n-nd I am successful with them and they don't need tweaking when the sun goes behind a cloud. Honestly --- in the last...

What have you done to your square lately??

That's the gist of it --- the angles should be equal or the pinion can be a degree or so below parallel anticipating spring-wrap. But anything over 10° in the u-joint-to-flange is creating a potential catastrophe in that the angle is too severe for the u-joints to handle for long --- if very...

What have you done to your square lately??

I can't find where your problem/post started --- and I see that you're fighting your brakes and you've tried everything .... let me ask a question though --- tell me if you've answered it already --- OK? Did you change your master cylinder? What I'll offer next will be contingent upon your...

What have you done to your square lately??

That's the monolithic probe hole. It is a magnetic pickup, cylindrical and on a flex that measures the timing after you also capture the #1 cylinder fire on the plug wire with an inductive pickup. I still have my mono-probe and my Snap-On timing light that can perform that process. Although I...

What have you done to your square lately??

More news .... I had posted this: .... and although the company that makes the spacers says they are supposed to be installed the way they are (small tapers to the rear to point the pinion higher - AT the transfer case ... There's a site that says they should either be flat or reverse them...

What have you done to your square lately??

A couple of days ago --- I added some 2 1/2" spacers to the rear differential and they went in OK. That was done to get the truck more level since I ---- well, read on .... The way it was --- Current pixs to come ---- maybe in a day or so, it's cold out and we expect snow...

    Quadrajet question

You're right, but it's still alcohol and the BTUs are smaller that a "more viscous" fuel. Aboard ship we burned NSFO and it was a gooey paste until it got heated enough to actually flow - even through an UnRep hose. Thickness or viscosity is a great delineator.

I've met them before --- they are 90 lb weaklings and hide behind their momma's skirts. Get me the Super Size popcorn .... and lots of butter.

    Quadrajet question

Those AFRs were/are so hard to hit that to combat post-ignition - what "dieseling " really is - one idea was to turn on the AC compressor for 15 seconds to drag the engine to a stop. Having localized hotspots inside the combustion chamber --- really in the squish-zone - could promote incorrect...

FOUND IT! '86 K5, 2 1/2" Jacked Front, Rear Stock Height ... etc.....

Looking REAL closely, it appears that the lower bearing isn't really where the wobble is --- the wobble seems to come from the top of the shaft where the upper bearing/bushing lives and it is just using the lower bearing as a fulcrum --- ya know ... where it pivots when the upper is loose. But...

    Quadrajet question

That's backwards --- LEAN at idle PROMOTES "dieseling" because of the extra heat in the combustion chambers from the lean mixture. During the Retro-NOX years in California --- dieseling was a really big BIG problem 'cause of the very lean mixtures and retarded timing that in reality, created a...

FOUND IT! '86 K5, 2 1/2" Jacked Front, Rear Stock Height ... etc.....

FOUND IT! The Pittman shaft in the box is wobbling. This is a rebuilt unit too! Isn't that upper Pittman Shaft bearing a "gusher style" and is adjustable? I've forgotten all I knew about the innards of theses boxes - except that the preload on the Pittman bearings can be adjusted --- but...

FOUND IT! '86 K5, 2 1/2" Jacked Front, Rear Stock Height ... etc.....

Not professionally -- but I'm mighty handy with some chalk and string and a plumber's level --- just kidding! Reality-wise --- this is what I used to call a "PBJ" <Peanut butter and jelly> alignment with not much to do except toe and steering wheel centering. Toe was set at -3/32" for...

The pitman is in very good shape - always was, really --- and the snowplow springs were on the truck for over 20 years with no bad symptoms before this time. Now with fresh springs --- installed because I thought my old plow springs were shot (they actually dropped a lot) and that by adding...

Stuck parking brake on 82 c10

The parking brake pedal can release and go to the OFF position and yet the parking brake(s) may still be applied because of rusted up cables. It happens all the time when the driver doesn't apply the parking brake when they park the vehicle --- every time and always. They say "I'm not on a...

208 Transfer case Whines? "Pitch changes when I grab the shifter"

Any noises in High2 range should be investigated since there's no pressure on the planetaries and they're just coasting really. But the OP said that if he pushes on the shifter, the sound changes. That's just wrong on many levels. It's back-to-the-shop for your truck, I think. But first...

FOUND IT! '86 K5, 2 1/2" Jacked Front, Rear Stock Height ... etc.....

I had a set of 'snow plow' assist springs on the front and the ride height was OK for many years (over 20) ... but they just got tired or I did ... so I got a new full set of leaves with a 2 1/2"-3" rise, urethane bushings, new shox and yet .... ..... I still feel like I'm driving a unicycle...
