New seat bottom foam vs re-building existing?

My wife does some upholstery work and has done a couple seats for me. We purchased a couple of the "OER" seat bottoms and found they are not as dense as the factory one, I sit deeper into the seat. We tried using canvas and such so it doesn't get sucked into the springs but at the end of the...

What have you done to your square lately??

Dropped a tank and installed a new sending unit and diverter valve, replaced positive and negative battery cables, installed a new battery, changed the oil, got it running, found the water pump pouring, that is the next project. Bought a set of old American Racing Vectors off Ebay only to have...

    Battery posts corrosion wtf

The seal between the post and battery top is compromised. At 4 years old, clean it up one last time before you need to change it. It's near replacement time

    Voltage issues

If the voltage drops show the cables to be goods, the battery is new, the last thing is the starter. When a starter tries to work in a low voltage and it's cranking too slow, it ends up compromising the connections from the brushes to armature along with overheating the windings. Once a copper...

    Roof Sheet Metal

There isn't a simple solution. If using the stud gun, cool the area immediately to shrink it. Pull up and tap around it down. Another thing I had done with tin canning is get it as good as it will get and run a bead of urethane on the inside to hold it in place. Works on hoods and doors too...

    Anti squeak gas tank kit

I went back and edited my response. All of us have a job or something we sell, either a product or our time. they took the time to solve the problem because this is something that isn't thought of until you need it. I met the owner of LMC once at a car show, I walked up to the counter and she...

What have you done to your square lately??

I would verify powers and grounds. I would have a test light on the tank pump to verify it's powered when it's cutting out. Then the distributor. Clean and check all the grounds are attached, to the core support and the frame along with the back of the head. Do a shake test to the harness while...

    Anti squeak gas tank kit

I also purchased it, it is light weight roofing felt. Nothing special. I knew it would work but didn't want to buy a whole roll just for this. It's a quick, thought out solution by LMC.

    Things I wish I knew

When you have dissimilar metals in coolant, the coolant acts as an electrolyte and a small electrical charge is created causing corrosion. It's important to make sure everything is grounded properly including your aluminum radiator if your running one. Also you can run a sacrificial anode that...

Question about wood bed stain and sealer for my 1987 Stepside

I have 2 step side beds and have done a ton of research on this. One vendor did testing on various coatings and these were the result for that time period. Things over time have have changed a little. https://www.mar-k.com/PDFs/Instructions/wood-test-1.pdf...

Swaps Other than LS or LT

One vendor I saw uses a cable set up to operate the column shift for the 6, 8 and 10 speed GM transmissions, lots pretty simple.

Swaps Other than LS or LT

I was an equipment mechanic for a number of years and have worked on, well leave me rephrase that, changed fuel filters on 4BT for a long time, they just don't break. They are anvils, you can't hurt them. They can be modified to work well, get good fuel economy, make great power. I just want...

Best source for a new dash pad for my ‘87? LMC? Brothers? Other?

I purchased the best one from Classic Industries 4 years ago for my '85 K10 that has sat in the garage and had maybe an hour of daylight over this time, it's delaminating and has a large bubble near where it wraps around the gauge cluster on the right side. It never fit that great from day one...

Plastic door panel - thoughts / what I did

In my research from about 2 years ago, one guy used aerosol cans of spray bedliner held far back when spraying to get the pebble grain back texture in the plastic before refinishing the panels with a fresh coat of interior paint. Another place suggested SEM 39853 Texture coating for bumpers and...

Swaps Other than LS or LT

Cool some real world feedback. The 2 wheel drive and lighter weight may do even better. That 3.0 and 10 Spd is available much less expensive than any of the LT combinations. If I have some time this week I will call some places and see if anybody has swapped one yet or what the challenges are.

Besides LMC, is there any other website to order the triangle windows...as a complete assembly?

I have a pair of the LMC ones installed in one of my trucks, my suggestion would be to get a rebuilt set. They look ok but after using them one it was difficult to get to seal properly. I literally had a 1/8" open air gap I could see outside and had to bend the hinge to get it close again right...

    ‘84 Stepside ready for paint!

I wanted to purchase door panels last year, they wanted paid up front yet had a 6-8 month delivery time. I held off, why would I give them my money for 6 months, that isn't how this works.

Swaps Other than LS or LT

I am in the middle of doing a frame up on my '87 GMC short bed step side. My original intention was to drop a used Goodwrench 5.7 and reman trans I have sitting around and use it for my daily driver for the next couple years. Recent fuel prices have made me begin to rethink this a bit, 14 mpg...

    Hood ornament question

I was under the impression it required a two tone paint option where the center was the different color and had the decal break the line, not the one where the roof and below the belt was the different colors. Edit, reviewed R/V Pickup, page 32 of the options book,"Exterior Decor Package" ZY5...

    Inner Fender Black Paint Question

There are numerous brands and shades of semi gloss black available in powder coat, I am confident you will find one that is a match. In my situation, subletting stuff like this out keeps the project from getting stalled. Close enough is good enough for my drivers. With regards to the old...

    Inner Fender Black Paint Question

For the amount of time you have removing, screwing around, sanding, and painting, I thought it was more cost and time effective to just take them to a powdercoater. They came out far nicer than I could have ever sprayed and far more durable. Thank you BennyT
