OK so pretty much all the lower stick-on trim on my 87 Suburban Silverado was gone when I bought it. Optima Batteries worth the cost?
So it looks like Sams Club has a Deka/East Penn Made in USA battery for $103, which is a LOT cheaper than everywhere else, if that's not junk...Walmart is only $88 (both 3 year batteries) but I can't find out the manufacturer of it. From more and more poking around it seems like Deka is better...- NCBurb

Optima Batteries worth the cost?
So the 'Burb needs batteries, (6.2 diesel, so dual battery setup) and I want to get the biggest/heaviest duty ones I can. Also long-lasting would be a big plus. It looks like I can get an optima red top, same size, CCA, for about $60 more than the "platinum" series. So my question is it worth...- NCBurb

so I can barely reach the backside of my emblem, how do those speednuts come off? Are they threaded? or pull them off with needlenose pliers? I can get to them, just still not sure how the best way to get them off the studs without damaging them. thanks,- NCBurb

huh does the metal dryer line hold up ok? That's the piece I'm missing, that looks great if it doesn't collapse under load! -

I just checked LMC, and they don't even have one listed for a diesel - anyone know if it's the same as other years and or models? I need the tube/hose itself, not the inlet on the grill... -

Sorry, that was from my order from LMC. Seemed to be ok. Maybe a little thinner than original, but the original was in VERY rough shape, so it's hard to tell. But overall good I'd say, as long as it holds up. -

Got one of the rear cargo door seals installed today and it was a perfect fit, so that's encouraging. Also the right door seals aren't backordered any more so I went ahead and ordered one. Guess the seals are ok at least... -
Are cheap welding helmets any good? (recommendations?)
So waaaayyyy back when I took my first welding class, we learned with the "hood flip" method, and like others mentioned, I never got that perfected. As little as I weld, it sounds like the basic Harbor Freight or Lowes auto-helmet should work. Now that I think about it I think I do have an old... -

Howdy. it looks like my old auto-darkening welding helmet has bit the dust, so time to find a new one. As little as I weld I hate to spend $150 or more, but at the same time, you only have one set of eyes, so I definitely don't want to take any chances. I'm just wondering if the Harbor freight... -
Diesel Temp Gauge Accuracy
good point. So basically warm up the engine, then pull the cap and stick a thermometer in while it's running? That should be within a few degrees of the temp circulating through the engine, right?- NCBurb

Jumping in here because i also have a 6.2 with wonky temp gauge. Where is/are the best places to measure temperature for reference? With engine warmed up and running I assume, just shoot an infrared thermometer at the radiator? block itself? Where?- NCBurb

huh, it never occurred to me that the Cougar might be collectible at all. I'd heard of the Fox body Mustangs, didn't realize that was applicable to other models also. I know it was bought for the 5.0 way back when, but didn't realize that someone might want the whole thing...I will have to check...- NCBurb
