    Seat Belts

Seat Beat Planet charges $235 ea. for the dual retractible style. That includes the web color change, but I doubt the housing re-color.

California Square Body fans - Proposal to extend smog exemption model years

California has always been "unique" with regards to smog. I've had 8 Squares, 6 with 454's, but the oldest 1 ton is my '85. I had a '77 K5 with an SBC 400/HD emissions and an '80 C20 3+3 with a 454/ HD emissions. Both ran on Regular fuel, but had smog pumps and assorted ported vacuum...

I need to find a frame diagram for 85 k20

    Here's a thread on 2Wd to 4WD. There's someone doing one right now with a round eye K30. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/2wd-to-4wd-conversion.31453/

    Front sway bar install troubles

Get the ORD sway bar disconnect kit. I've used it on my last two trucks. It resolves this problem and let the spring and sway bar run in different arcs without binding. https://www.offroaddesign.com/swaybar-correction-and-disconnect-system-for-73-91-gm-trucks.html

    Axle Identification

I know when I did the axle swap in my '79 I used an '82 Suburban rear and it had the numbers on the tube, but I didn't research it. I always pull the cover and look at the numbers on the ring gear.

    tire fitment??

I actually like the Rally rims better. If I did the 8 spokes, I would be going with a look similar to the CHiP's truck. Trim rings, chrome center caps and some type of painted center. They are actual GM Dessert Fox package wheels, but the look could be easily copied. Photo #3.

    Advice on Muffler Replacement

I don't like the rap sound of straight through mufflers. I'm debating about going with a pair of 50 series stacked vertical to replace the dual in/out in my 8.1L Suburban 2500.

    Master Cylinder Size

Your truck is a little newer than the trucks I did 3/4 ton axle swaps on. I had a '77 K5 and a '79 K15. I used my existing 1/2 ton power brake booster on both trucks. For the M/C I used the 3/4 ton version for the corresponding year. The 1/2 and 3/4 M/C were both metal and had the ports...

    tire fitment??

Here's a picture of my old truck and no I didn't put the Pete emblem on it (Lol). This lift and tire/wheel combo was probably done in the early 80's. 4" lift with 33x12.50's and 15x10 wheels. If the front fenders weren't trimmed they would have rubbed under flex. I'd be worried you may rub...

    Keyed the same ignition switches

Most older GM cars have this key coding. The square ignition key usually has one type of code and the round door key will have another. The codes changed every year. See the link for the breakdown. Back in the day we had 1989 Caprice patrol cars. The ignition and doors were keyed using a...

Gear ratio advice 14 bolt BBC

My current K30 has 3.73s. My last truck had 4.10s. Both had 32.8" tall 33's and automatics. The 3.73 is running around 2500 RPM at 65 MPH and the 4.10 was closer to 3000 RPM. It depends on your use. If you are running a stock size tires 30-31 inches with the manual you may be okay with a...

    Brake Issues - RPO codes

This came up a while back on a different thread, but up until about a year or two ago I didn't realize GM made a light duty 3/4 ton in a Square body. I was aware of them in the early GMT-400s. This picture is from my 1985 sales brochure. The first K20 listing has a lower GVW and probably the...

    Correct bumper for '78

I hadn't even thought about the 67-72 fleetside. I had Square on my mind. You can see here the step side has the same profile, but the ends are curved. The 67-72 is flat on the ends.

I put 81-87 door panels on my '79. You will have to change the door handles and arm rests. The door sweep might be different, too.

California Square Body fans - Proposal to extend smog exemption model years

Another problem we run into here is even if you have a Federal emissions vehicle, you have to prove it. If you don't have the original emissions tag or proof it originated as a Fed vehicle, you have to meet the California requirements for emissions equipment. The other thing our "great" state...
