Broken Loose Steering Wheel (Not Column)

Cant watch the video for some reason, but as a guess there are a pair of white plastic bushings that act kind of like a ujoint in the column. That would be my 1st guess.

    Oil consumption

Still have your cat ? If so, it may be hiding the consumption. Goldie does not, so I see it - when it is warming up mainly, and at slow speeds. Normal = No. Given the vintage of the motor, and the improvement in oil tech over the years and the horrible factory recommendations for...

    Steering column removal

I do not recall ever replacing one. However, one you pull the t!ts from the steel plates I would think there is enough flexibility there to pull it on the PS around the bearing and steering shaft and then around the shift lever. Maybe that is not the case - if not, I'd try cutting it and...

    Tailgate differences

To the best of my knowledge the only difference is that the inset stamped in the 81 up is squared on the corners while the older ones are rounded there. Seems like I read here that the 73 & 74's may have different mounts than the rest - cannot confirm that. Here's a pic of the rounded example...

Valve stem seals info needed and is it worth while in my case?

My buddy and I did valve stem seals on the 91 Sub we had ( me 1st, then it was his). Used my air compressor, a spark plug chuck I guess he got/had, and rented a tool from Vato Zone. The 91 was easy to get the valve covers off for the most part and we did all 16. Kind of a time consuming job...

What have you done to your square lately??

I know I need one, and want one ( motor ) , but I am being a cheap azz and just buying plugs and oil. The power level is just pathetic. However, it runs decent, does not overheat, and for what it is gets decent milage. For example, during my 1.5 or so hour rain induced slugfest on the way...

What have you done to your square lately??

R45TS, if memory serves - whatever GM called out for a 1980 350 light duty emmissions. I found the ash theory interesting as I had been running diesel oil for a while there. Right now it's Super Tec semi syn 10W40 - and wonder how the rest of the plugs look. But, just decided to play with my...

What have you done to your square lately??

Shades of @SirRobyn0 here. Changed # 8 with a good used plug I had as I thought I was feeling a slight miss at idle. Plug had like a white glaze on the electrode arm that appeared to have reduced the gap by half. Put the feeler gauge to it and off came the glaze. Fired her up, still a bit of a...

    Re-badging my Square

Yeah, the Bowtie Brigade has us beat on this one. Funny , though, that the majority of my squares have been GMC's . All used vehicles, just happened to be what was available. At least I am not having to find a blower switch for a '75 where Max AC is actuated by having the temp lever all the...

    Wiper motor always on.

Assuming 83 still uses the dash switch, the LMC new one worked fine for about a year and then got "sticky" , meaning you could not help shooting past off and it getting hung on the mist side (left most position). No big deal, just had to push it back right. I lived with that for 3 years - put...

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

hard to find a good pic, but like this. You can see the horn cam aka "the plastic piece " mentioned above, assembled with the "black plastic piece" & the "metal piece". As well as the little concave metal spring washer & the horn button plate & the 3 screws with their plastic holder.

    Steering Column Refresh Oddities

The horn contact is part of the plastic piece that goes behind the lockplate. Should be a black plastic piece, a metal piece, and a spring. I cannot remember, but believe the spring is on the bottom of the plastic piece, the metal piece goes inside the black piece, and the black piece twists...

    instrument cluster

If I follow you correctly, the connector you are referring to is part of the truck wiring harness. If by lights you mean the bulb holders, can you reuse your old ones ? If not, they can be purchased new - there are 2 sizes. 1/2" & 5/8", IIRC. Mine takes the bigger ones.
