What have you done to your square lately??

More quick and easy- kind of - projects. 1) Adjusted the drag link to move the steering wheel a bit to the right. Easy - turn the drag link the opposite way you want the wheel to move. (4wd, anyhoo ) 2) Adjusted the shift indicator- since my shift bowl ( the plastic lower portion) is a broke...

What have you done to your square lately??

Lubed my speedo cables with some old Duralube I had in a small pump spray bottle. Problem is that the bottle is so old the pump portion broke in the bottle, so I had to try to shake drops out in a cap and pour that down the cable housing. Speedo and cruise worked on the quick test drive, so...

What have you done to your square lately??

Rough stuff- tweaked the cruise adjustment under the hood as it seems to have a droop in speed when it engages. Take the vacuum line closest to the fender off the cruise, loosen the locknut closest to the cruise body, and turn the air control valve out. Book says one quarter turn equals one...

What is this in my engine?

Thermal vacuum switch that controls the EGR and the transmission lockup, I believe. The one on the water neck is for the EFE valve and the thermal flapper in the inlet of the air cleaner.

What are these devices mounted to the firewall?

The 1st pic is exactly what Goldie has with a TH350C although mine is spun 180 from your pic. You may be able to see it here. I dont have the second- if an 81 up 305 maybe for the ESC.

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

Goldie runs a tad bit cooler at idle than down the road - fan clutch engaged at slow speeds, I guess. Warmed up to hot, with the 10W40 I would see 20 to 25 at idle right after a freeway jaunt and maybe hit 30 to 35 on the highway. Mechanic confirmed the electric gauge was accurate, so I have...

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

One day of highway - almost hitting 40 psi on the freeway in ~ 95 ish temps with the A/C off, and hot idle around 25 - 29 psi, so higher than what it was doing. I am curious if it will lose less oil, but, not going to bet on it. If, for example, my problem is an intake manifold gasket then I...

What have you done to your square lately??

Did what I did not want to do- put the black reman booster on. :bawl: Anodized OE made it 42 years, but on my test drive with the new oil on the way home the brakes got hard and I was hearing a loud whooshing while holding the pedal. Sometimes would not, but it was getting pretty consistent...

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

I think I will put it in tomorrow. $ 22.47 for the 5 quart jug at Wally World- I think the spare quart was 5 something. Something I just randomly saw today and grabbed.

Anyone seen or tried this ? It will be my next experiment on Goldie.

AC or not to Ac is the question

I can't deal with the cold, but can tell you from 1sthand experience with the 91 Sub that the front only will not keep up. So, went junkyarding back in 00 or 01 when there were squares in the local junkyards and got the pieces I needed and had it installed. Mo better, and except for the...

What have you done to your square lately??

I forgot I got my Bosch BP52S pads in and installed today along with new bushings and sleeves. Carid says these are organic , but the box says semi metallic. ( Tried a link, but it would not work.) I am trying to match the OE material, but I cant get a straight interwebz answer on what...

What have you done to your square lately??

Gassed Goldie up, and noticed a miss. Did it on the way home from the gas station, too, so I figured I would pull good ol 8 and 6 to check it. Opened the hood and could hear a popping noise/thudding noise. Great - the engine has internal issues. Well, gotta check. Pull the plug wire...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thank you ! :) Pictures make her look better than real life, but, one step at a time! Today's action was clean the brake shoes and drums and slightly readjust the drivers side shoes. A little SOS pad with brake clean action on the drums along with some fine sanding of the shoes and drums...

What have you done to your square lately??

Upper body wash and wax day. Basically, the white and above got washed and waxed, and the wheels got a bath, too. Bumpers and grille got ignored for now. Still, about 3 hours worth of work .

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got off my duff and tightened the steering column bolts. A little disappointed that there is a tad bit of slop in the tilt mechanism- probably where the tilt "teeth " grab the metal pin. Oh, well, 42 years of wear does that.

Not sure what you need - hopefully these help. Cargo door rig if that makes any difference. Britt

Do these racing stripes work on this square?

Hmm - hood and roof, I assume? Could be cool.

How slow is your daily driver?

Something wrong there - I bet with a few tweaks you get that down to 36 seconds easy peasy. :dogpile:

    Low Beam vs High Beam

Smarter people than I say that all 4 should be on. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/1982-suburban-headlights.28127/#post-541621 The searches I did make it appear that the upper lights should have 3cprong bulbs for both high and low beams.

What have you done to your square lately??

Pulled the passenger side caliper, cleaned the pads and rotors, and cleaned and never seized the pins. Did the ds side a month or so ago. Then, found a Phillips screw with a washer hanging out between the rear bumper and that argent plastic flap. I had taken her to Lowes earlier today, so...

Valve stem seals info needed and is it worth while in my case?

On the plus side, though, for the least amount of time and money spent, you know what you have. And, so long as you don't mind adding oil and changing a plug or two quite frequently you could run it fir a while more. Which is what I have been doing, without the internal experimentation.
