Need ideas to help me choose wheels

Third on the dog dishes. Tough to beat the classic look of rallye wheels too.

    NV4500 clunk

I think your right about it being internal. If it just was one "clunk" kind of sound I'd think something rocking into something else. But that kind of "ker-clunk" sound... I'd be pulling it back down, somethings not right.

    NV4500 clunk

It does sound quite backlash like. But if it we're mine I'd hate to tear it all back apart and find something else to be the problem after all that work. My 700r4 had a VERY similar sound which went away after it was replaced. Thinking that was a missing internal pin at the rear of the trans...

    NV4500 clunk

Is it possible that there isn't enough clearance between the cab cut out and the top of the trans? Would probably make a different noise then an internal trans knock though. Dingo is right too. You dont have the auto cushion anymore to soak up some of the harshness, if a u joint was on the...

What have you done to your square lately??

I WISH mine was in that condition. Maybe after I can get some time and money into body and paint. That truck is gorgeous!

What have you done to your square lately??

Truck got its new meats today. I was wanting 285x75r16 but they seem to be out of stock state wide for another 2 weeks. Ended up getting the Falken at3w in 305x70r16 instead. Looks and drives pretty good compared to the 14 year old, small toyos ats.

    15" vs 17" wheels

Gotcha... I would have just hit the like post button.... but I can't like this. I'm not wanting 20x15 wheels on my truck :puke:

    15" vs 17" wheels

Is it just the size options for 16" wheels are not as vast vs. the other sizes? Or are 16" truck tires going the way of 16.5" and will eventually be impossible to find in anything half decent and affordable? I'd love to keep my 16.5s with 33x12.5s but can't justify putting boggers on my daily..

    15" vs 17" wheels

I'm going the other way. Finally going to do away with the aftermarket 16.5s. I'm moving to 16"s (original size on the truck) and I'm planning on a 285/75r16 wildpeak atw3 load range E. I'm looking forward to the higher load capacity and better ride then my small 14 year old toyo ATs.

    Steering shaft...leak?

That steering rod has no fluid in it to leak. If your hydrobooster is in fact not leaking it could be leaking from where the powersteering lines enter the steering box. And when driving the fluid is being pushed by the wind up the steering shaft. However, my bet would be a leaking hydroboost...

    Worn/cracked valve guide seals

I've never had to do it myself but if I do. I figured on packing the cylinder with a soft rope through the spark plug hole. That just seems like there is less room for error. And your not pumping compressed air into your cylinder walls.

    Higher idle then normal.

Good idea on the screen! I've pulled that foam out, don't plan on putting it back after it got caught up like that. The tall covers are baffled, and I even have baffled style rubber bushings for the PCV so I'm thinking I should not have much oil build up without that junk in there. If it does...

    Higher idle then normal.

Doesent seem as though that was the only problem. Still had a high idle this morning. Ill stop by the Napa and grab some WD-40 for leak testing and some new vac line just to replace all the old lines anyway. I disconnected the power from the choke and that didn't seem to effect anything, I...

    Speedo not working

Since you checked the other usual culprits, I'd bet on a broken or frayed cable. Easy enough to check, pull the end off the back of the speedo, pull the inner cable all the way out of the outer sleeve, and inspect. Replace as necessary.

    Hub centric rings

The wheels for these trucks should all be lug centric. The lug nuts have a ramp which centers the wheels. However, if one is so inclined to get hub centric rings to close that gap. Using a dial caliper, measure the OD of the hub and the ID of the wheel. Then call any hub centric company and...

    Higher idle then normal.

I think I found it. And boy is it a dumb problem. The foam I have under the PCV to help keep oil from being pulled into the carb was actually pulled into the PCV and was keeping it from closing. I'll see how it does tomorrow.

    Higher idle then normal.

That does not bode too well for me. This has an aluminum edelbrock RPM performer on it (not new, but not beat). But the thought of a warped intake hits home a little. I noticed the intake above cylinder 1 is blacked by something, where as the rest is still clean-ish aluminum. I'll pull out the...

    Higher idle then normal.

I said the magic words out loud the other day. "Truck is running GREAT!" So naturally, this week I've noticed the idle in drive and with a warm engine is about 300-400 RPM higher then normal. Before I had it at 600-700, now its around 900-1000. Normally, I would be thinking a small Vacuum leak...

    Occasionally wiper start.

I ran into this a few months back. Every time I hit a pot hole or overpass ramp the wipers did a pass. I unplugged all of the electrical connections on the intermittent control, as well as the wiper motor itself. I cleaned the connections up, added dielectric grease and put it back together...

Remove speedometer needle or sync new odometer

I ended up giving mine an easy make over. I painted the needles with white model paint. Turned out decently I think. And still visible at night.

Non leaking thermostat housing for Edelbrock?

It is expensive for a thermostat housing. But I've been using this o ring thermostat housing. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bsp-blk90334 No leaks unless I didnt get it tight and I've pulled it off and reused the orings a few times and its still working great. No RTV needed at all. But you...

Do we have a show us your shop thread?

First picture is what I used to be stuck in. Now in the new house I have a two car garage which makes me feel a little spoiled. Still need to bring over the two dirtbikes and trailer, build some shelves and make a run to the laundry mat for the large blankets and things. The new garage has also...

    Cleaning speedometer &cable connection

Yes. And you pull it from the cab side out. Spinning it helps when pulling it out. Make sure its disconnected on both ends. I went through this last weekend. Cable is getting replaced as the lube job did not help much.

Electric motor to swap for SBC

If you haven't seen it yet. Here is the new all electric hummer's release video. Some pretty interesting features to say the least but for $100k+ is stupid. The Rivian, Nikola or even more so the Atlis purposed offerings including a dually. Sound like decent possibilities. Electric motors...

K5 rear window glass converted to plexiglass canopy style

Bit of a crazy thought, but in the future I suppose you could get fancy and weld bits from a burb cab on.. I could not imagine the labor and skill that would be needed to make it all work and look cleanish.. But the thought of a 2 door, short wheel base "k5 burban" with rear barn doors sounds...
