    Bouncing speedometer

Yep, I'm tracking on the cable length. I think it's good there, I don't notice any binding in the ends. Driving in this morning without the converter box thing I still have a bounce so it's back to drawing board there.. I might try re-routing the cable tonight there are a few gradual turns in it...

    Bouncing speedometer

I like this plan. With the driven gear attached to the adapter box thing I get some play. I can move the driven gear about 3 teeth either way before the other end of the box thing starts moving. This is with me holding both ends keeping the boxes output stationary. According to that link I have...

    Bouncing speedometer

Here it is. Got the damn thing out with some ingenuity. And here's all the gears. Don't look half bad I don't think. So are we thinking it's that box doodad?

    Bouncing speedometer

Looks to me to be an adapter for the larger tires. There are all metal gears inside of it that seem to be interchangeable. Teeth in there all look good. I've never seen one like this before. But thats not saying much, I'm in pretty unfamiliar territory.

    Bouncing speedometer

Alright all knowing gurus. Cable still looks good and not kinked. This is what I had underneath and second picture is where I have it now. Does that circular part come out of the transfer case? Also should I open that box piece I took off? Edit: I already did... see third pic Looks like...

    Bouncing speedometer

@SirRobyn0 Thats a good idea. When I replaced the cable I did the whole thing outter and inner. I felt it was the correct length maybe a 2-4 inches too long. @Bextreme04 While installing the new cable I was pretty careful routing it, but I'll slide under there and make sure nothing moved...

    Bouncing speedometer

Those drive/driven gears are the exact ones I was thinking is the problem. Guess I'll be pulling into those this weekend. Should I order the gear combos and have them on hand before opening things up, or are those something the local NAPA should have? @Goldie Driver I do have cruise however...

    Bouncing speedometer

My speedo was doing great for the longest time. Then it started reading just a little slow, then it started bouncing when coming to a stop and when leaving a stop. I replaced the cable, and recently replaced the speedometer itself. Still the problem persists. It's even gotten a bit worse. When...

    1978 gmc k15 starter issue.

If you can, count the teeth on the flywheel. It could either have a 168 tooth or a 153 tooth. The starter should be for that same tooth count as your flywheel. Most trucks SHOULD have the 168 tooth but over the years things get replaced and swapped all over the place. Best way to know is to...

    Stock Differential Covers

@Raider L I saw these which I think is the ones your talking about. https://www.jegs.com/i/B-M/130/70502/10002/-1 They look good and sturdy and having a drain and fill is a huge plus. I ultimately decided on the purple cranium because I wanted the added protection offroad. I figure I can...

    Stock Differential Covers

My 83 had a fill for the front in the cover and just the normal side of the diff plug for the rear. I swapped covers and added stump protection to them. New covers have fills just like the factory ones. As for checking the fluid in them. A bent Allen wrench does wonders. Pictures show the front...

275/60r15 vs 255/70r15 on stock rally wheel

This is not a question. White letter always go out. Unless it's a new vehicle they should be shamed with bland tires.

How much whp am I gonna have in my lifted truck

A stock 700r4 won't like moving those tires through those gears very well, much less with a bunch of power in front of it.. It sounds like you'll be wanting information/money for nv4500 swaps (easy-ish swap for an anchored 700r4) and possibly a gear change in your not so distant future.

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

So... ford has an electric crossover called a mustang. Now they've announced a new electric pickup taking the lightning name. What's going to be next? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36302400/ford-f-150-lightning-electric-name/

    Engine Mounts

@Dwnforce Here's an old pic of the other end, pic was diagnosing an oil leak, now fixed. This is on my 83 with 350 and 7004r as far as I know it's factory.

    Engine Mounts

Those go between the mount and block. Then there are a pair of bars that run from the odd ball hole to transmission bellhousings. I have them on my truck and could snap a pic after work unless someone beats me to it. The idea is more support and to help keep the trans bellhousings from cracking...

1980 Square hard clunk shifting into reverse VIDEO

My 86 c20 had a loud metallic ping/clunk when shifting into gear in either direction. Had the rear drive shaft center bearing replaced which fixed it right up. You'll only have one of those bearings if you have a 2 piece rear drive shaft. Im not sure if that's what your hearing or not but it...

    Lifted,, but how ...

@Bextreme04 said exactly what I was going to  Edit: I'd second keeping the shackles. I have the same pair on my k20. Really a good and quality part.

    Toggle Switch Mounting Locations?

I got one of these in the 2 rocker switch configuration and popped it in my ash tray. https://www.etsy.com/listing/688027846/73-87-square-body-chevy-gmc-ashtray I used mine for 2 USB ports and a blank. But would work great with toggles or rockers. Edit: added pic

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

I agree with the price being out of hand. My SBC had a .30 bore, crank resurfaced, heads re worked with new springs and valves, plus a new cam, cam bearings, freeze plugs, a set of main bearings and rod bearings. My pistons even got new seals and wrist pin bearings. For around $2500. Prices...

Front brakes lock up in panic stop

I too had to do an emergency stop today. My rears locked. That is also what happened with my old c20. I'd be thinking rear drums need some adjustment. I'll tell you though, nothing gets people moving like hearing a pair of 305 tw tires screeching to a hault.

I did NOT even notice that. But I have ZERO problem being a pic hoe.

    33's on a 2" lift

33x12.5 on 16.5 here with a 2" lif, ORD HD shackles and their sway bar kit. Then I went to 305x70x16 same lift (icy picture) I haven't had any rubbing or any issues, even offroad.

How to lean a Edelbrock 1406?

@Moose Drool It's just an over the counter kind from NAPA. Nothing fancy. Edit: if going that route you'd still have to run a line from the pump back. Would be cheaper to get a regulator with the return, keep the 2 port pump you have, and run the line all the way. Instead of buying the...

How to lean a Edelbrock 1406?

Tbh I'm not very familiar with the fuel lines on our trucks from the selector back. There might be a return line there somewhere. The pump on my 83 with dual tanks is a 3 port type. And I used a regulator with a return but just plugged it off there. 2 years now its been working fine that way...
