    700r4 questions

@AuroraGirl and @Grumpy Thanks for the responses to this. It has really had me stressed out like crazy these last few months. And I mean "I should sell this thing or take my engine out and scrap the rest" level of stressed out. When I got the truck back from the shop, I checked the trans level...

    700r4 questions

Hello everyone! I recently had a shop (same shop that replaced the 700r4 a year or two ago) do some brake work on my 83 k20. I got the truck back from them, and I found out they changed my transmission cooler lines around without my knowledge, so I put them back. I had them bypassing the in...

    More Problems with Brakes

A little more information on this. I took the booster and MC back off today. I think I have the wrong booster. Napa will have another new (different part number) booster for me Tuesday. I have bench bleed a MC before and it's worked fine. However. That was using the tube setup, these plugs...

    More Problems with Brakes

Thanks for the reply rusty. I did as best I could without a vise. The master came with two plugs instead of the fittings and tubes so I'm not too confident on how well I got it. The switch hasent been messed with but it seems as though the new setup doesent allow for enough up travel to turn...

    More Problems with Brakes

Took the advice I was given on another brake thread I made. I replaced my brake booster (local alignment shop said it was causing my brakes to drag) and my master cylinder (was a leaking POS) I got a NEW MC and booster from NAPA, installed them, bleed everything. Pulled the truck out of the...

O2 BNG Location on Long Tube Headers w/ProFlo4

Im not too sure (was also hoping to see the answer here) if I would need only one total or one each header. I haven't gotten that far into it yet, just bought the parts because they were cheap at the time. And I figure those collectors are a simple way to add the būngs. I plan on doing an H...

O2 BNG Location on Long Tube Headers w/ProFlo4

I'm not too sure how correct it is. But when I get around to redoing my exhaust this is my plan for the end of both my long tubes.

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

That looks great! Your 383 and gears are a big game changer. I'm betting that is a very fun setup.

Searching for the right brake master cylinder

It's an 83 k20. Disc/drum. GVW is 8600. After thinking about it the 3/8 on the linked MC probably refers to the 3/8 inch NPT threads that correspond to the fittings on the lines. I agree that the one I linked is probably not the best option for my truck but more so due to the 1" bore. I think...

Searching for the right brake master cylinder

This is probably a dumb question. But I'm tired of getting junk parts so I had better ask, otherwise I'll end up buying the wrong thing. I'm looking at replacing my brake master cylinder for the third time in 3 years. The Napa parts I've been getting are complete junk and end up rusting up, and...

    Spicer driveline?

I was unaware of it. I don't have a Facebook so I miss out on alot of that stuff. I'd definitely be interested in going! Let me know when your wanting to swing through and I'll cruise along. There are some real nice driving roads out that way.

    Spicer driveline?

@nvrenuf Thanks! That's what I was thinking. But, it definitely got me a little curious. Not knowing the full history of this truck its hard to tell what's been done to it. From everything I've seen on it, one or two early owners took good care of it and put on some nice tough parts when...

    Spicer driveline?

While changing my rear u-joints. I noticed that my driveline is stamped Spicer. Is this how they came from the factory, or is it an aftermarket/custom piece?

    Speedometer ratio adapter

I went through replacing some parts on my setup not too long ago. I was able to find and order the parts I needed from this site. https://transmissioncenter.net/

    Torque specs. for 350 flywheel/flexplate

65 ftlbs, in a star patten so it's pulled down evenly. Wouldn't hurt to do it in steps either. Start 40 each then 65 each.

    Valve cover gaskets

I had a hard time getting mine to seal, aluminum heads, and cast aluminum covers. Tried cork, tried the felpro rubber with metal inserts (kinda finned looking type) and still no luck. I ended up trying these from speedway and they solved all my issues. They are a bit softer then the felpro so...

    Retaining ring

The only retaining ring I can think of would go onto the back of the speedometer itself. Don't have a picture handy. I have been wrong before.

    Burb Needs a New Transmission

@bad_idea I've heard and read good things about bowtie overdrive. I have no personal experience with them. Finding a local shop is nice if you can, because if something isn't quite right you have an actual person to hold accountable. But I dont think you'd go wrong with bowtieOD. Definitely...

    Burb Needs a New Transmission

What bextreme said above is all true. Which is why I suggested the nv4500 5 speed option. If your open to a manual trans it makes ALOT of sense. It's the same length as the 700r4 so no relocating cross members, or re working drivelines. You do still need to change the input shaft of the...

    Burb Needs a New Transmission

Prices in my area are pretty stupid high. Especially in older stuff. Shops seem to think that means you need to ask a premium price for anything, and that's if they'll even touch it. Better to cry once and not worry about it again imho. And that's the route I'll be going when this new unit goes...

    Burb Needs a New Transmission

I've been down this road with my k20 twice now. First time I had the original 700r4 rebuilt. $3200. Lasted about a year and a half. Shop went out of business so no warranty, and they didn't really rebuild it correctly which lead to the second breakdown. This last time I took it to a shop and...

    speedo cable ( question # 432 )

On my k20 long bed with the np208 case I ended up using the 100 inch and I would not want any shorter. Mine should be the same length as yours since the distance between the t-case and dash doesent really change. Measuring is always good just to be sure, but I'd bet your going to get the 100 inch.

    Bouncing speedometer

I just installed that 35 tooth driven gear. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if I should be able to use the 40 series gear housing with a 30 series driven gear? That company seemed to think I needed the 30 series housing but it's about 1/8th inch too big for the hole in the t-case. Right now...

    Bouncing speedometer

@Raider L Thanks for that. Really clean looking setup btw. I ended up getting this pretty well dialed in. At first I took the cable I had and used a grinder to shorten the part that goes into the back of the speedo like @SirRobyn0 suggested. That helped out a bit but still had a pretty big...

    Bouncing speedometer

This is my thoughts as well after seeing those gears not chewed up. Since it's acted the same with the 100mph speedo I got used and now this brand new one I'm leaning cable. I made sure to pull the inner completely out and inspect/clean it then lubed it very liberally with graphite, before I...
