    Cruise control removal

Thanks, that is a great idea, I'll make sure to do that this weekend when I have some vac. caps and new vac. lines to put in. Also hoping to get my temp sender wire un-pinched from between the block and bellhousing and working again plus a new carb on this weekend and have this thing running...

Cleaning up my wiring. What does this plug go to?

Thanks for clearing that up @C10MixMaster and @Frankenchevy

Cleaning up my wiring. What does this plug go to?

Did some more digging on this. It depends some on the type of dizzy you have. This is from edelbrock.com Before Removing Old Carburetor Determine if the distributor vacuum advance it timed (no vacuum at idle) or full (vacuum present at idle). With the engine fully warmed up and idling, pull the...

    Cruise control removal

Great thank you all! this is the exact info I was looking for. Would really like not to break anything so I'll go with capping the T connectors in place and unplugging the wiring harness, as far back as I can get it. For the brake switch portion can I just unplug this from the cruise servo and...

Cleaning up my wiring. What does this plug go to?

Its always worth a shot. The timed port would advance your timing based on your RPM. So my truck currently is set at 12 initial at idle then when raised to 3000rpm the timing increases to around 34 or so. If running on that constant vacuum your timing will always be in that "advanced position"...

    Cruise control removal

I'm thinking about removing the cruise control stuff from my truck. Its never worked and I personally never use cruise so I would like to clean things up some. I am wondering how involved this is to do? From what I've found by tracing things I have the baffle thing behind the driver's side...

Cleaning up my wiring. What does this plug go to?

A small side note here, from this picture your vacuum advanced line is going into the passenger side of the edelbrock carb which is full time vacuum and is usually for the transmission. While the passenger side is timed vacuum and for vacuum advanced.

    Newbie Question

Welcome to the fun. Here is some info I ran across on the wrangler package http://www.73-87.com/Special_Editions/wrangler.htm These older trucks ran on a fairly easy system C for 2wd and k for 4wd then 10 for 1/2 ton, 20 for 3/4 ton and 30 for 1 ton trucks. By the picture of your truck I would...

Messed up somewhere installing new distributor cap/rotor and cables. Need some guidance.

Exactly right. Sorry, if I wasn't too clear. Its been some hard long days lately and I'm either over caffeinated or way under caffeinated, haven't quite decided yet :Caffeine:

You can, But you will want to bring #1 up to TDC on the compression stroke. Pull the dizzy cap see where the rotor is pointing and you can use that point as your #1 then put the wires on in the firing order (18436572) This is the link I followed and it worked for us. But this was for a new...

    Working over a motor

I did at first, then after thinking it over removed the tape and put the sender back in, with no change at the gauge. Could I run a jumper wire from the frame and tie it to the sender to test the bad ground idea? I suppose the threaded hole could still have some tape in it, I'll try pulling it...

Messed up somewhere installing new distributor cap/rotor and cables. Need some guidance.

Should set it back the way they were removed. From the factory and most people would set them the way the book shows. However, they do not have to be set that way. Therefore by moving the plug wires around your throwing your timing off. When building an engine you should find TDC on your...

    Working over a motor

Well, its been a long while and a lot of hard work and long nights but we got it in yesterday and today I was able to get her running. Went through the cam break in. And some base line adjustments. I still need to get the timing dialed in, carb fine tuned, and the Lokar 700r4 TV cable adjusted...

    Lower Radiator Hose

That's correct, the spring helps the hose from collapsing. I've never ran a spring in any of the newer hoses and havent had any problems, not to say thats the correct way though.

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

:worship: I've actually never used a points type (I've always just put on a HEI) so I really had no idea the difference, but I'm pretty good at using the googles.

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

Power voltage throughput is the largest difference. The design difference of an HEI also has substantial benefits over a points type. Reliability and simplicity being the biggest benefits.

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

Pretty much. A forum without any fun or shit flicking is about as boring and useful as Wikipedia answers. With about the same level of incorrect bullshit because no one wants to offend anyone else by saying they are wrong. This forum is fantastic and has saved my ass many times, which I've...

    Working over a motor

Here is the latest. Got the valve train all in an initial adjustment done, water pump on, valve covers on, intake down. Then had to pull the Oil pan to put in the steel oil pump drive rod that I forgot to install and could not from the top. Re-torqued oil pan bolts. Then taped up intake and...

Steering stabilizer. How the hell do I get the old one off?

I second the BFH. I recently did mine. Added some heat and beat the hell out of it with a 4lb short handle sledge. Took a while and was suprised when it finally knocked out. It might help if you can put a piece of wood behind the bar to keep it from flexing and absorbing the hit.

    Lowered C20 Rough Ride

If you are running a low profile tire with large wheel that will also significantly effect your ride quality, and make it ride rough. On a 3/4 ton you should have 10 ply e rated tires which have very stiff sidewalls. A rough ride is per the norm on a unloaded 3/4 ton lowered, lifted or even...

    Working over a motor

Update for the end of this weekend. Installed a two piece dip stick (first time actually using a lower tube), the fuel pump, balancer, timing tab, verified zero TDC for the balancer and pointer is accurate, put on head gaskets, sat on the heads and lifters. Coming together pretty well. Next...
