Link Belt vs. (Double) Roller Timing Chains

Double roller chain for me. They are cheap enough and known stronger then the standard type. Peace of mind is worth the extra few bucks to me. I've also had a gear on gear type and while it held up and did the job it was pretty noisy.

    Possessed electrics

@TONKA I'd be curious as to why the bolt won't full seat. They have to be completely seated to work right as the shouldered areas need to sink into the block to hold correctly as well as to ground everything properly. I'd be making sure there isn't some bolt broken off in the hole and that the...

    Hello from Portland, OR

Welcome to the site! Once you get the hood freed up it you could add some supports to it to prevent any future bending. I'm down near Salem, there are a few other Oregonians around here as well if your ever needing a hand.

    '86 C10 temp gauge

They are usually placed between cylinder 1 and 3 on the side of the cylinder head. See the circled area of the picture. It should have a dark green-ish wire (color fades overtime) connected to it. Should be able to just unplug the wire from the sensor. If pulling the sensor there will be...

    '86 C10 temp gauge

What Brown said above. Usually if it's pinned at max your wire is pinched or grounded out. If it's hard zero then most times your gauge or sensor is fubar in some way. By pulling the wire that'll tell us whats what, if it stays the same you have a grounded wire. If it drops then it's one of the...

    Possessed electrics

Thanks everyone! Got it all fixed up. Pulled the cover and starter, found gear teeth to be in great shape still. A little evidence of grinding. Put the starter back with shims, bumped the ignition found it still grinding. But after it did the starter gear was still engaged in the flex plate...

    Possessed electrics

This is what i was thinking too. I've never seen them in use personally either. I'll give that old ac delco a try and if it works ill keep it until it dies out. For the wipers, it turned out to be the actual motor. Put some die electric grease on all of the connections after cleaning them up...

    Possessed electrics

Ok, well maybe I just got a crap starter or it needs shimed, I always thought the OEM style didn't need them. I'll toss in my old starter and see what it does. while I'm under there Ill pull the inspection cover and take a look at that flex plate. Thanks all!

Will do! Would the engine oil (leaking from fuel pump mounting plate and will be addressed this weekend) all over the starter cause that to die rapidly? Its maybe been on there 1500 miles.

    Possessed electrics

New problem of the last few weeks. My starter grinds the flexplate sometimes but most times works fine. The wiper blades are also super slow/stop half way... but upon driving 10-15 minutes things start working normally. Could this be battery, alternator, or maybe a ground? Gauges show normal...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Ok, got it. Thanks for clearing they up for me. When I was going through my whole fiasco, The Edelbrock tech kept asking me to make certain that the linkages didn't somehow get bent or bumped around in some way. Also not saying that what helped me can help everyone but its worth a shot. The...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Sounds like something isn't quite right here. If I am reading this correctly. You had to turn the black choke cap to the left (lean) in order to get the choke plates to close (richen)? That cap should act like a thermostat and should only adjust the amount of time the carb stays choked. Could...

    700r4 blown. Nv3500/4500 swap

I do believe that you can replace the input shaft on a np205. I know it is doable on the np208 so I would expect it can be done. As for mechanical to hydro.... Since I'm preparing to do this one day I picked up a set of pedals for a hydro clutch truck on ebay. But that won't help much for the...

    Edel Carb issues

Got her back to work and hol-E-crap she is running amazingly. I've honestly never had a carb'd engine run this smoothly. Turns out the wire, for the choke that came with the carb from edelbrock, had its spade connector crimped around the insulation and not the wire at all. Sure makes me feel...

    Edel Carb issues

Dropped the truck off this morning at 0900 got a text at 1300 saying its done. Here is what they said. It was a simple fix, bad wire going to choke, then bumped up idle a little and installed fuel pressure regulator and gauge. $150 Now I'm working out a way to get back up there and pick it up...

    700r4 blown. Nv3500/4500 swap

From everything I've read you can split them but expect to loose fluid out of both. Keep in mind the nv4500 fluid is very expensive and requires a certain type. Like squareroot said AA bellhousing will make it easier along with going to a hydro clutch. You can also bolt a np208 or np205 to it...

    Edel Carb issues

Here is the info off my cam card: I do not feel its a large cam but once again I am not versed well enough to say for sure. and I was thinking they are on the low side as well. Currently my timing is set at 14° initial. I am guessing it would like some more as before this I had it at 12° and it...

    Edel Carb issues

Did it.. And for some reason the carb still is mis-adjusted and not acting properly. My choking procedure does not cause the carb to be out of adjustment. Also, I do let the thing warm up every morning for a good 5 minutes before driving it. I do not just hop in crank, slam into gear and go. I...

    Edel Carb issues

@QBuff02 After finding my more normal vacuum readings I'm thinking that my carb is out of adjustment and the shop I took it to just reset the carb to out of box adjustments and did not in fact dial it in. At least I am hoping those are closer to acceptable levels.

    Edel Carb issues

I have a set of aluminum heads without the exhaust cross over. Not having this will make it take a bit longer to warm up. Having that working will help the vehicle warm faster at least to my knowledge.

    Edel Carb issues

Shouldn't you be able to drive the truck (easily of course) while the choke is engaged and engine not fully warm, but warm enough that it doesent stall and oil is moving around? Then once your at operating temp kick the choke off. If I we're to let it sit until it hit operating temp it'll be...

Ok, this looks a bit better. idle in neutral: 15 on the gauge at 600 rpm idle in gear: 11 on the gauge at 500 rpm these were using the large PCV port on the front center of the carb. No bouncing like before. good constant readings. I also went through and hosed things down with the carb...

Question about backfire on throttle release

With keeping the OEM pointer you could get some timing tape and put it around your balancer starting at the zero mark. this will give you a larger range. Have to make sure the tape is placed 100% correct then whatever number on the tape lines up with zero on your pointer is what you'll be set...
