    Diagnosing white smoke on startup

I have been reading on the forums to try diagnose this startup issue. When I start my truck first thing in the morning I'm always getting a pretty decent amount of white smoke. I am going to attempt to include a video from this morning. I checked where I thought the PCV valve should be but to...

What have you done to your square lately??

The past couple of days I was able to take the steering column apart one more time and get the horn right this time, replace rotors, calipers, pads, and wheel bearings and get rid of the constant squealing. Bled the brakes afterwards and cruised around enjoying my quiet square lol. It's the...

Ended up getting the horn fixed which was nice but I never did figure out where that clip went. I just didn't see anything that was going to hold it in place. I have been trying to find some videos on YouTube where they remove the rack but I don't see any clips there.

What size press (12 or 20 ton) for automotive

Yeah thanks everyone for the feedback. I found this 20% off coupon too good starting today. I think it will make the price close to the $200 mark if I use it. I'm going to head up there tomorrow and see if I can find this 20T one

What size press (12 or 20 ton) for automotive

Well I need a press and there is a 12 ton for under $200 at harbor freight. There is a step up 20 ton as well but it's about $250. For now I am just going to use it to separate the rotor and hubs so I can redo the brakes but I'd like for it to work every everything I may run across once I get...

Yeah there was, with your direction I got the first one in place which was the one for the dimmer switch. The second one is the one I can't figure out where it goes, I'll repost the picture of it for reference but you mentioned it was to keep tension on the rack -

@Ricko1966 been out of town but I'm about to disassemble again to get this piece in place and the horn back to a functioning state. If you get a chance can you confirm that the clip you mentioned should slide "in" to the steering column long ways behind the rack gears? I want to make sure to...

LOL! Just my luck. Guess I need to tear it all the way back down again and figure out where it fits. It's all good though I can tell there were several issues. The lock on the steering wheel is not moving when the key is removed. Need to dig in there and see what else is wrong Oh and the...

What is this steering rebuild part?

Alright well searching for what this part is and I see it in a rebuild kit. Haven't a clue what it goes to but clearly going to have to take everything apart again to figure out where it goes :/

@Ricko1966 maybe :) I would be finished with the repair but I'm wondering if this was supposed to be on top of the rack itself or something. When I opened it up the rack was shattered so I didn't get a good look at how it is supposed to look

I see in the writeup where he is saying to push up the bottom wires to get this much slack but I am not seeing where the slack is going to come from. I went to Napa and I think I found the right part # for the rack and sector so I am going to try to continue on from this step with the upper...

Sounds good I appreciate it I went ahead and rented a steering wheel puller and the lock plate remove and picked up a lock cylinder and ignition switch. While I am in there I want to take the time to replace the known wear parts so I'm not dealing with another issue in a couple of months and...

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

Well I was stuck at the store with no tools and no way home so tow was the only route. There was zero resistance when moving the key inside the lock so I'm not sure but I was thinking since the lock cylinder is like $25 and the ignition switch is $20 maybe I should just go ahead and grab both...

@Ricko1966 welp the temp button for the starter is working great but something just broke presumably in the lock cylinder because the key is loose in the lock when turning back and forth and no power to anything besides the starter. Intermittent voltage drop, fixed by jump

I think you are right. It was a poor connection to on the solenoid. I redid the wire with an eyelet and made sure the ignition wire in is not part of the equation anymore. I did check connections, grounds, batteries, etc... I think the underlying issue is in the ignition switch but the...
