    Engine lag

I had a bad alternator that was causing lurching randomly as the power surged. More noticable at night with the lights on.

Recommendations while tearing down for valve job?

They quoted $500 for the valve job which I think is the guides and seats. I didn't check the price but when I rebuilt my '66 mustang I think it was $25 for the springs so seems like a no brainier

Recommendations while tearing down for valve job?

Hello - We are heading out of town for a couple of days and renting a car so I figured what better time to pull the heads on the square and drop them off at the machine shop for a valve job. I was thinking to go ahead and do the following - 1. Remove valve covers, clean, paint 2. Remove both...

    Fluid Changes

I'd bet a dollar it is actually... I need to change the PCV valve anyway and it would be good to get in there and just double check everything under the covers and get a new gasket installed. Truck is running great and some days it's smoke free but some days it's embarrassing how smokey it...

    Fluid Changes

On a slightly serious note I have been trying out stp 0w20 high mileage with the seal additive to see if it would help with leaking valve seals and it seemed to have no effect so I switched back. Flame me...

    Fluid Changes

Here is my recommendation - everyone wants you to use like 5w-20 but you know why? It is too gummy and leads to having to change it and I mean like every 5k miles... Most of us here use Grapeseed Oil mixed with vinegar instead of conventional motor oil. It provides better lubricity and the...

Which A/C compressor do I have?

It looks like you are in the Netherlands so I'm assuming part availability and cost factored in to why there is an non stock compressor in your truck currently. If you are able to get back to an original setup and it's known to be appropriately sized personally I would do that. Trying to piece...

Which A/C compressor do I have?

It depends on whether you want to buy new brackets, but if you are I would personally go back to the r4.

Whirling Sound While AC is Turned On, Matches Up With RPM

Unless the area is so filthy you can't see bolt heads it should be easy to find the ones holding it in place. When the engine cools run your hands around it you can't miss them they are all fairly large bolts. IIRC there are two bolts on the bottom towards the rear of the vehicle that I loosen...

Whirling Sound While AC is Turned On, Matches Up With RPM

I use a 1/2" breaker bar in the square hole you see on top, loosen the bolts mounting compressor to brackets, give it a good pull, and tighten them back up.

Whirling Sound While AC is Turned On, Matches Up With RPM

Lol this is gonna sound crazy but are you sure the belt isn't hitting the front bracket? I know that sounds crazy but I swear I see it slapping it and some wear on the bracket Probably the clutch or smth like you mentioned but figured I would mention just in case.

Whirling Sound While AC is Turned On, Matches Up With RPM

Did you try to take a long screwdriver and check for vibration around the compressor? I found a missing bolt was causing a lot of vibration noise I thought was a bad compressor clutch until my cousin wedged a screwdriver in between the compressor and the different mounts until it stopped...

    R12 recharge from high side?

Alot of times I am in a similar situation thinking I'm a half can of r12 away from working ac (or whatever similar problem) It's normally a half can of r12 away from working ac for a few minutes and then having to upgrade to r134a when I realize I was never a half can of r12 away lol.
