What new tools have you got lately?

The most boring tool purchase ever. At least I was good and left Harbor Freight with exactly the one item I was going for....lol

    The Electric Vette is Near

I've owned a Corvette for 25 years. My interest in the new ones stopped with the new mid-engine platform.

My teenager's first small block build

Quick update to this thread. It is now April 11th and I still don't have my block back from the machine shop or even any update on its status. I called Saturday and left a message asking if they had an update and they have not called back yet. Keep in mind that I dropped it off November 15th.

Swaping engine internals opinions, and does this look bad to you?

OK. I'm going to give you some really bad advice here. So, please ignore. When I was a kid, I watched my father go down to Fat Martins junk yard just down the road from us, pick a used piston out of a pile of junk, check it with a micrometer, bring it home, slap new rings on it, install it in...

    Insurance

We have the ability to use USAA for our vehicles but have found that their rates aren't as good as what we get with our current company. I'll be interested to hear what they come back with for your quote.

    Pricing on Engines

Just a side note concerning rebuilds. I don't know about your areas, but the machine shops around here are backed up beyond comprehension. I dropped off a bare block for machining on November 15th and here it is almost mid April and they still don't have it done. At least here, you can't have...

    Insurance

I can't speak for State Farm or any of the big companies, but I have my fleet insurance through Erie Insurance Group and my Square with American Collectors. Erie will insure my C10 with no issue, but my agent strongly recommends that I don't go with a standard policy and to keep my truck on the...

    Weld or Panel Adhesive?

I did rockers on one of my Rams last year with adhesive. I'm very happy with the results.

Some cool cars I worked on in my old life.

My cousin Den always had a couple of them out in Sacramento. I'd be lying to you if I can remember what year and model they were. '60's vintage I believe. He recently passed away. I'm not sure what became of his cars.

Need honest quote for this truck, not a I know what I have?

Good gracious. I'd buy something like that for $1500 all day long every day. Even with the cost of shipping, I could double my money without laying a wrench on that thing here in PA. I'd fix it and drive it personally. But, you all have no idea what us rust belt people would do to find...

That will be perfect. Thanks again.

    Wanted: 1979 Copper/Brass Radiator

There's something like a 2 week window in June where I will be out of the area. Other than that, I will be here. If it would happen to hit during that time, I'll make arrangements for someone else to meet you.

Absolutely. I work 30 min from that junction. Thank you.

Finally, something without a computer under the hood.

I don't know if you are familiar, but there is a channel on YouTube "Uncle Tony's Garage" that talks about this all the time. There is a growing desire for the simple vehicles of the 60's, 70's and 80's that are modern enough to be usable and old enough to still be fixable by the home or hobby...

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

If you aren't getting any signs of injector failure, fuel in the oil, white smoke on startup, hard starts, etc., I'd just leave them alone and add a good 2 micron filter as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Anybody see one of these before? Little Max

Not the same model, but there used to be something similar in an old fire truck that our department had back when I joined in 1991. It was an early 60's tanker/pumper combo and had a similar style module in the radio compartment by the pump panel.

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

It's the little things in life that make me happy. But, it did my heart good to see that caliper hanging properly by a wire instead of off the line....LOL

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

I don't honestly remember off the top of my head. I think that is the right one but I would definitely call and make sure.

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

That's a great question. I did a search using my vin# and it came up with this Yukon set. https://www.yukongear.com/shop/ya-w25000 Are you showing the same? I would definitely give them a call direct to confirm.

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

How many miles on this truck? Those look to be the original factory joints I believe. I've done so many of those joints that I've lost count. They tend to eat them pretty regularly, especially if you use four wheel drive on a regular basis. I'd personally smooth out those burrs, reassemble...

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

With that trailer, that 12.5 mpg is definitely a reasonable guess, especially with the early common rail 5.9. My '07 is an early AD (lower gear ratio) G65 manual with 3.73's. It is definitely gear limited for great MPG at highway speeds.

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

I don't know the size of your trailer, but I get a consistent 11-11.5 mpg towing my 5500 lb, nearly 12' high Jayco with my '07 with 65 mph highway speeds. I have to agree with you on the hotels. I have a short 4 night trip coming up at the end of the month that I will be at a hotel. Not...

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

Yes, the hangers appear to be stainless like the system. I've never had any issues with them rusting, only the welds breaking off from abuse on the plow truck. There have been a couple of times that we've slid it off the road and or high centered it and most likely they just broke loose...
