    Are “cheap” tires bad?

My brother-in-law's new 2021 Ram 1500 was delivered with Falken tires. Time will tell, but not what you would expect on a new vehicle. Of course with the supply shortages everywhere, he was lucky to have the truck delivered at all.

    Are “cheap” tires bad?

I pretty much deal with one local tire I deal with one local family owned tire shop. They are primarily a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer. So, most of my vehicles are sitting on their tires right now. Speaking of Dayton tires, he used to carry the Dayton Timberline AT tires that we would run...

    Are “cheap” tires bad?

I've never owned them personally, but a lot of RVr's swear by Sailun tires on their heavy 5th wheels.

Vibration sitting at a traffic light

Automatic or manual? I've had clutch/flywheel issues in the past with other vehicles that have created that same vibration.

What new tools have you got lately?

Sure beats the four fat guys and a case of Budweiser method that we always use here to get a bed or cab off a frame.

1983 K20 - Pep her up or leave her alone??

If something does fail, one of the great things about these trucks is that for the most part, you can still walk in to any auto parts store and come out with the part you need. No custom orders, fabrication, etc. necessary. Once you start down the path of modifying, that begins to go out the...

    R-12 service in Seattle area

My old Corvette is still R12. I just checked it at the beginning of the summer and had ~36 degree output temp at the vents. My 2018 F150 with Y1234 can't come close to that. That Corvette will remain R12 as long as I can find available product and the system is still serviceable.

    For the kids

That's really cool. Nothing like making memories with your kids. Trust me when I tell you that it goes really quickly. I'm currently looking for a project car for my oldest daughter to take down the strip. It was just like yesterday that she was learning to ride a bike.

1983 K20 - Pep her up or leave her alone??

It's only my opinion, but things are only original once and there are fewer and fewer of those as each year passes. I would leave it alone and continue to enjoy it as is.

    R-12 service in Seattle area

We were just talking about this at the shop the other day. New 1234-YF machines are still over $5K. Going to try and hold off as long as possible on the purchase. But, some of the auction vehicles coming in are already 1234 and are going to have to bite the bullet eventually.

89 firebird to buy or not to buy

I can't remember off the top of my head when it became standard equipment, but if it is an ABS equipped car, make sure the system is intact and functioning correctly. Those early GM ABS systems are becoming more and more difficult to source parts for. I searched everywhere for a replacement...

89 firebird to buy or not to buy

They will be electric in this generation. If they aren't working, it could be anything from a wiring issue, stripped nylon gears in the actuator assembly, or the motors themselves. Parts for those can range from $20-30 for individual gears to well over $100 for full assemblies including motors...

89 firebird to buy or not to buy

Yes. But, at least in my experience, when a seller lists a car online and doesn't show pics of them in the closed position, they are likely stuck open. I'm only going on the pics that were included in this post. So, they may in fact have provided additional pics that we didn't see.

89 firebird to buy or not to buy

With just a brief look at those pics, the open headlight doors would be my first issue with it. I hate dealing with those things when they don't work properly.

    How quick is your Square?

I've never had mine at the track. But considering that my '79 is equipped with the 140 HP 305 V8, 3-speed manual trans, and 3.07 open diff, it may be easier to time mine in minutes rather than seconds.....LOL

Poll -Would doing a LS swap in a CLEAN 1987 V10 INCREASE to DECREASE VALUE?

I will admit that I am a purist when it comes to vehicles. But, I would think that overall value would be better keeping it closer to original.

What new tools have you got lately?

I've been using grinders of some type for well over 30 years without issue. Last fall, I was working with one and a wire brush, something I've done literally dozens of times. One second it was in my hands, the next thing I know it was wrapped around the sleeve of my sweatshirt. I ended up...

Noob here looking for help deciding wether to purchase a new crate motor or do an engine re-fresh

I think that the answer to this question really depends on your area. Where I am here in western PA, machine shops are few and far between. The two that are still operating in my area have become all but cost prohibitive when compared to a basic crate engine. I'm not saying that they don't do...

    old travel trailer

I wouldn't do anything with the roof until you figure out what is going on in that back corner. Most likely, you will find that there is significant water damage/rot from a water leak in that area. It may be from the roof, or any other of areas that can leak on these old trailers. If it is...

    Radiator help

Adding on to this thread instead of starting another one. Does anyone know of a source for a Copper/Brass radiator for our trucks? I noticed mine dribbling a little today. I'm still on the original 42 year old radiator in my '79. I'm going to try and find a radiator shop to repair it. But...

That will be fine. I've always used PAG with 134a systems and mineral oil with R12.
