    Stripping paint off instrument panel

So far it seems like just tapping it (bristles down) with a detail brush seems to be doing the best job of chipping the paint away without harming the surface underneath. Acetone wasn't working. A Dremel tool with the soft bristles seemed to not hurt anything, but it wasn't removing much. A mini...

    Stripping paint off instrument panel

The dash was filthy and flaking so I washed it with warm soapy water and it flaked way worse. I then went with a scrubber sponge and some Comet to see if that would take it all off. It didn't really change much. If I paint over it, it will just flake off. If I sand/wire-brush it, it I will ruin...

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

Yes it was covered but you made me think of another question. Where is this light? I didn't notice anything and it's possible the bulb may even be out but that would be really helpful to know.

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

That 14 bolt process is what I'm watching. Mine is the 10 bolt so maybe it's not quite so exhaustive

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

You're correct - I meant cylinder. I'm watching videos on replacing the cylinder now. I guess that's in my future. Time to buy some new tools (spindle nut socket?).

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

We did do this. The rear left bled fine. The rear right did not. It seems like the line or the caliper is blocking any fluid from coming out. I guess I should pull the line out of the caliper and see if the fluid can get that far.

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

That would explain the vacuum failure. If it was seized, wouldn't brake fluid still come out of the bleed screw? Bleeding brakes is something I've failed at with motorcycles/quads/mountain bikes and now trucks :D. The nice thing with this truck is I really don't even have to remove the tire to...

    Rear brake bleeding struggles

74 k20. I'm new to these things aside from dirt bikes and quads. I don't know if the rear brakes were working before but the pedal was mushy. I bled the front brakes fine (ish). When I went to bleed the rear left the vacuum wasn't pulling any fluid at all. The bleeder screw was cleaned out...

What did you pay for a square

I'm a little embarrassed to say what I paid after reading what you guys paid. A running 1975 or older (no smog) k-20 in So-cal is a rare thing these days. I've seen deals but if it's a drivable fixer-upper, they're generally low 5 figures. If it's a rust bucket and the entire motor is in the...

    Rear body mounts for a 74 k20

OK - well I got impatient and went ahead and just did the rear. I was able to wiggle them out with about a 1.5" lift on the cab. New rear mounts are in. It's looking more level. I should've loosened the front mounts. I'm dreading this a little...here goes. I'll try a breaker bar on this one.

    Rear body mounts for a 74 k20

Hello, I'm replacing the stock body mounts. It's been going OK so far. The first bolt has not spun on me. The problem I'm running into is how do I remove the rear bushing on a 74. Most videos suggest doing just one mount at a time but this year has this stupid metal tube/flange that would...

What could this random tube attached to the exhaust be?

What function did this serve? Should I complete this?

What could this random tube attached to the exhaust be?

Surely someone can explain this mystery tube to me. It's hose clamped to the exhaust for some reason. It's not drilled out or anything if you look down the tube. It's just clamped to it and barely hanging on. Chesterton's-random-exhaust-tube. It's better to figure out why it's there before...

    74 Adjusting tailgate latches

The tailgate will not close unless I pull the handle while slamming. I went to figure out how to adjust this and I don't see any way to do that. I could add some shims near the rubber grommet possibly. Does anyone know how these are adjusted?

    Tripod mirrors on lowered trucks?

This is what I want to go with. But mine isn't lowered. The tripods just look busy IMO.

    '77 Vandura radio not working

This sounds backwards to me. Yellow to the battery and red to the key (accessory). Old Pioneers had weird colors IIRC there was an orange (which is normally used for illumination) that was the constant. But you don't have to guess, they almost always have a wiring diagram printed on top of the...

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

Update :evillol: - My garage now smells like mouse urine from just storing the seat cushions for 30 minutes. I'm buying new padding.

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

After watching this: I feel inspired to try and repair the foam I have. Everything that was covered and protected feels fresh, just the areas exposed to sunlight are flaky and brittle. I like the idea of stock foam and saving $300 and two weeks for delivery. Time to shop for some foam scraps...

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

I just broke down the disgusting seat/mouse house on my 1974 K20. I'm pretty sure this was the original seat/cover. If you leaned on it your hand would go through it. The frame was in spectacular shape so that's great. First question. Is it worth reusing this foam (back only, bottom was...

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

Found the problem. The spring meant to return the main latch was broken. It's all riveted together. I could probably drill it out and machine some replacement parts but locating that spring by itself sounds like a pain when the whole mechanism can be acquired for $65. Hopefully it's comparable...

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

Great tips. I've been taking a wire wheel to it and getting down to shiny metal. For now I'm coating it with some rust block primer but I'll be going back to these areas when it's time to paint. The hood latch location is as you said. My fear is so far it's only ever gone down to the safety...

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

First post and I know there are many topics on this but the answers for these are always situational so I wanted to share my latest findings taking this rodent house apart. Yell at me if I'm doing it wrong. First, the bed. It doesn't look terrible. I have a portable sand blaster. I was thinking...

I finally got my hands on a squarebody!

Hello All! I've always loved the Squarebody and on Saturday took delivery of a semi-running k20. It's a 1974 which is perfect for me being in CA (No smog!). Sadly it spent a little time on the beach in Mexico and it has a few rust spots but not terrible. Floors are solid and bed has no holes...
