    Water on drivers floor

been a minute since I've done it, but if you fed something down from the cowl and it came out there, that's gotta be it. I just remember not being able to fit my hands in there very well and using a stick. I kept flushing water from the cowl to push stuff down and using the stick to help pull...

    New TBI injectors causing surging

Biggest change when the engine gets warm is that it goes into closed loop operation and starts using the O2 sensor feedback to adjust fuel. What condition is the O2 sensor in? Strange that it only happens with new injectors. Maybe the old injectors are dirty and even though the computer is...

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

I bet it is off about 25% too high bc of the tach being not set up for a v8. 3500 x 0.75 is 2625 RPM

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

I bet the RPM difference is proportional to engine speed. 220 at idle might be more at higher RPM....

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

good question about the tach. I am not that familiar with aftermarket tachometers or if there are different types, etc.. but at 3500 rpm the engine should definitely be making some noise. that can be used as a quick reality check on the tach readout. is the engine really screaming at 55mph?

    Water on drivers floor

I still think the drains are clogged at least partially. stuff gets in there and bridges across the gap and water seeps in when it pools up. it is a dirty job to clean/flush/clean/flush until nothing else can be pulled out with a stick. but after I cleaned mine, I couldn't overwhelm it with a...

use this to check what your RPM should be for your setup. it's the most accurate and comprehensive that I've found. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

    Water on drivers floor

It's been a bit since I have done mine, but I thought the actual drain exit was tucked back farther where this arrow is pointing.

    Water on drivers floor

I had to remove a piece of foam and use a stick to keep pulling stuff down, then flush with water, and repeat until no more came down when I have cleaned mine.

    Water on drivers floor

Clean the cowl drains out behind the front fenders. Run some water and see where it comes out. You may have to remove a small plastic panel and move some foam out of the way. But clean, flush, clean, flush until you don't have any more debris coming out.

would a TPS cause the throttle to stick on 1987 7.4 tbi only when trying to depress the accelerator. when the engine is off the accelerator moves free

yeah, if the TPS is sending off-idle voltage when you are actually idling, it messes with the computer and causes idle issues, either rough or high bc the IAC will be either too open or opening and closing if the voltage is jumping around.

would a TPS cause the throttle to stick on 1987 7.4 tbi only when trying to depress the accelerator. when the engine is off the accelerator moves free

yeah, likely not the sensor if the actual throttle is sticking open. if the voltage is sticking or being weird, that could be the sensor

    Timing light recommendations

I just have a basic bosch one with no dial. works fine for setting base timing. checking for spark, etc. i think I got it online at O'Reilly 4 or 5 years ago for $50. if you want to check total timing and things like that, you'd want one with a dial.

    Cab harness questions/issues

I'd be comparing some wiring diagrams. seems to me the odds of things lining up in the right spot from a glass fuse panel to a blade fuse panel are probably low. you can probably make it work, but will take some rebuilding of the harness connectors.

I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much

Agreed. I run 17in and they are fine. Although mine is a 90 with intermittent wipers. I didn't jump all the way to 18in just to keep the over stress on the linkage and motor down a little bit from going bigger than OEM size. Sort of a compromise on improving the view during rain and the extra...

91 burb runs terrible in reverse

Do the volts drop in reverse, like the reverse lights or something has a wiring issue? Otherwise I think you will be trying to track down a wiring issue like you suggested. An OBD1 Bluetooth reader and ALDLDroid will let you watch all the sensors and computer stuff to help diagnose....

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

does it ever blow a fuse, like one of the ECM fuses? I'd also check the harness along the firewall for an orange wire that has rubbed through on a bracket. it is the 440 circuit and gives constant power to the ECM and the fuel pump (ECMB fuse). it can rub through in various places - MAP and...
