8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

If you are going to be towing with this setup, then you want either the Gen VI or Gen VII BBC. You can get them with the wiring harness, computer, and engine/trans setup out of any 96-04 3/4 ton and up Truck/SUV. Exhaust and some of the internals will be the same between the 7.4 and 8.1...

Well, glad you aren't selling it.. also sad you aren't selling it... to me! Enjoy the swap meet!

    Transmission Upgrade?

That would probably be the way I'd go if it was me and the trans was going behind a non-efi engine. You can get the 0411 computer and pigtails, run the TPS and engine RPM inputs to get proper shifting(you can also connect a 4lo switch to get proper shifting when in 4wd without having a VSS...

    Electric Fan Temps

Factory dual fans on the newer Suburbans/Silverados have a low/high speed that is controlled using a three relay system. Fan 1, Fan 2, and Fan Control. The PCM controls that with two ground signals, one for Fan lo and one for Fan hi. AC pressures or coolant temps will trigger the low speed which...

    Electric Fan Temps

F-body three wire sensor and wire it right to the PCM. Shouldn't be too big of a deal to run them along the current harness. I got the sensor, stock connector, and wire run all the way to the red/blue connector from a V6 99 F-body in my local junkyard for like $5. If your tuner is using HP...

What have you done to your square lately??

You might want to check out the 02-06 pickup truck 40/20/40 seats or the front buckets from the same year truck/SUV's that had a console. The only difference between them is whether they have the inside flip down arm rest. The buckets that came in the ones with a console don't have the flip down...

What have you done to your square lately??

Hopefully you mean taking the truck to the swap meet to haul all the goodies you are going to buy back with you?!?! Not selling the canopy at the swap meet.. right? If you ever end up wanting to sell the canopy let me know, I'll drive the K25 down same day and take it off your hands!

    Transmission Upgrade?

Yep. The lockup is honestly going to be the biggest difference in my mind. The OD gear will make a huge difference on highway driving and will let you cruise much more comfortably for long distances at freeway speeds, but the lockup converter will see efficiency improvements everywhere. The...

    Transmission Upgrade?

Should be good for a few MPG... especially on the freeway. The combination of getting the RPM down and locking the converter up should make a huge difference. Most of the guys running the Gen V and Gen VI 454/4L80 combos report somewhere between 12-14mpg, but I don't have any real world...

    Transmission Upgrade?

Anything with more than 4 speeds is going to be fully electronically controlled... and expensive. A 6, 8, or 10 speed isn't going to do much on getting the upper speed RPM's down though. The 10th gear in either the GM Allison 10 speed or the Ford 10R140 are both ~.63:1 ratio, which is close to...

    edelbrock avs2 650

Not saying you guys don't have that experience. Just saying you don't have to. Just because you have always set up your carbs to need to touch the throttle to start them, doesn't mean you NEED to set them up that way. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it is right. It's just like the...

    700R4 Information Thread

Transmission mount is ~3/4" further back on a 700R4 than it is on a TH350. Both TH350 and 700R4 were available in 84, and it was the last year for the TH350. You could look at your SPID sheet to see what one your truck came with from the factory. MD8 or MX0 is the RPO for a 700R4. MX1/M38/M49...

What have you done to your square lately??

Throw the Cometic ones in the trash and try some Remflex ones next time you get a leak. It will be the last time you ever use another brand of header gaskets. They seal up EVERY time and seem to stay that way forever after. I just put a set on my 2011 Suburban while installing a new exhaust with...

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

At least some of that is not accurate. Federal emissions in a 1980 8600GVW K25 with a 350 did not have an AIR pump and injectors going into the manifold. It's even more interesting that the maker of that manual is her in Troutdale, OR and my truck was originally delivered to the Beaverton...

    edelbrock avs2 650

I'm just curious why you would think that is? The throttle is set to provide the proper amount of air and fuel flow for the vehicle to idle properly(750rpm in neutral in my case) without toughing the throttle pedal. The only thing I can think of that would require a touch of throttle would be to...

    edelbrock avs2 650

A properly set up carburetor and engine should not need this. My original quadrajet has updated idle mix screws, secondary rods, and converted to electric choke. Other than that it is all stock. I have a mildly built 350 with bumped up compression and a mild cam and stock everything else. One...

    edelbrock avs2 650

The edelbrocks are notorious for not liking high fuel pressure. 6Psi is the max spec, but really it should be more like 3-4Psi. It must be barely holding on against that 6Psi while running and once it sits long enough to heat soak the fuel line a bit it is flooding it out.

    1987 Suburban v1500 - what separates the v1500 and v2500?

I did. The differences are the axles and springs. Stock 1500 is a three leaf spring on a 10 bolt rear axle. Stock 2500 is a 5 leaf on a 14 Bolt Semi or Full float axle. 13 x 2.5" is the heavy duty rear brakes and the 12.5" front disk is the standard 10 Bolt front axle with the HD 8 lug outer...

    1987 Suburban v1500 - what separates the v1500 and v2500?

Axles, springs, and T-case are about the only differences between the 1500 and 2500 squares. I use my K25 pickup for towing/hauling a few times a year and hauling my travel trailer through the PNW highways and logging roads during the hunting season. I use my 2011 K1500 Suburban to tow the...

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

Why would you possibly want to swap a passenger drop NP241C for a D300? You'll have less low range gearing and it isn't really any stronger. If you do, and get rid of that passenger drop 241C.. i'll be happy to take it off your hands for you

help me find this ticking noise on my truck ( 1978 Chevy C10 305 )

Its a common spot to burn plug wires. If it is a sharp snapping type sound, I'd go with plug wires. It's also easy to see this if you start it up and look under the hood while it is dark outside. You'll see the arc jumping to the headers or manifold usually. If it is more of a tapping noise that...
