Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

It's still at the shop? From when they did the work? And it didn't make that noise when you dropped it off? I just went back to he first post and re-read it... so the shop did a clutch replacement, then when you went to pick it up it is making this noise... and the tech who did the clutch...

    1985 K5 350 always running rich?

Yep, properly tuned carb and put some cats on it. I'm running dual 3" heavy duty flowmaster cats right after the collector on the long tubes. H-pipe is right after the transfer case. This is on a slightly hopped up L29 454 and I'm using the same setup on my 2011 Suburban with the 6.2 LS setup...

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

Sooo... best case, you have a poorly tuned carb and you are getting 10mpg. If you drive your truck 20,000 miles in a year(not likely), you burn 2000 gallons of fuel in that year. If you spend the $1800 on the sniper(not including any engine work... which is going to be A LOT for a 383) you MIGHT...

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

Valvetrain noise and rod knock would be very similar speed, and yes.. much slower than that. That speed sounds like something hitting at crank RPM, but it isn't deep enough of a sound to be rod knock in my opinion. Sounds light and tinny to my ear in that video. Rod knock will be much deeper and...

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

My thought is that if you just had a shop do a clutch... did they maybe install too long of a bolt in the flywheel and its whacking something? dust cover bolts? It sounds too fast to be a rod and I'd be suspicious of the latest work being the issue.

    Big block Chevy valve lift

I was thinking that at first, but he said he has check springs installed... which shouldn't compress much of anything

    Big block Chevy valve lift

That's a hell of a cam for a truck... you mud bogging this thing? I bet it's gonna sound like an absolute beast... please post some pics and videos when you get it going. I don't really have anything for your problem.. maybe the lifters are collapsed? Have you primed it yet? Did you degree in...

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

You're gonna spend more for a holley sniper system than you would to just get an 8.1 or 7.4 with the trans, wiring harness, and computer included... Just saying. Also, the sniper system has it's limitations. Most of the really efficient head designs don't have a heat crossover and the TBI style...

    Alternator amps

Nobody really makes a good readily available option. I would recommend that you look around and see if you can find a motor rewinder locally. They are usually right around the same cost as buying a new one, but they actually care about doing a good job and using quality parts. Not sure where you...

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

No. Testing conclusion is that you will make more absolute power with a carb properly tuned for the exact circumstances being tested. Efficiency is not even close. The EFI will beat out the carb hands down for efficiency in every situation. You don't go for EFI with the intention of more...

    Opinions on grounds needed

Yes, and because the amperage is pretty low, they don't need much connection to the bed or core support to be totally fine. All turn signal and headlight issues I've had on two different squares were able to be tracked down to the way the ground wire itself was connected into the socket. The...

    Opinions on grounds needed

Most light harness related ground issues are caused by the socket internally having an issue to the ground cable in my experience. Adding ground connections from body panels to the frame can be helpful, but it is usually due to the socket itself not having a decent ground.

    A couple more sensor questions

I've seen lots of people use that port only because they are always jumping on the transmission forums to ask why their temps read so weird. If you use that port for the trans sensor you will only read what the case temp is, there is no fluid flow in that area, so the fluid at that port is...

High Flow cats on a Blueprint 383

I agree you won't hurt anything by putting on high flow cats. I just put a pair of 3" stainless flowmasters on with a set of long tubes to replace some worn out ones on my 2011 Suburban. It immediately jumped my fuel trims up 20%, so they definitely aren't taking anything away flow wise. I still...

    A couple more sensor questions

Do not use that port for a transmission temp gauge. It is for testing line pressure and is a dead head. You will get completely false temp reading from that port. You should put a sensor into the pan or in the cooler line. There are several kits out there with weld in or screw in bungs for the...

    Fusible Link?

If it is only the headlight switch... it isn't a fusible link problem. Did you check the headlight fuse in the fuse box?

Power steering fluid .. what type ?

Lots of high performance 4l80 builders recommend the Hy Gard fluid for their $5000 race transmissions... just make sure it is the low viscosity variant... regular Hy Gard is ~30 weight oil equivalent and will put a hell of a load on the pump. Low Viscosity is ~10 weight and very similar to ATF...

    Trailering your square body

    Trailering your square body

There is no way those trucks are going to be 4k. The beds aren't the heavy part for sure. My truck is SRW too, a 3500 is going to be even heavier. Are either of them 454's? Do they actually weight the vehicle where you have them registered? I've never actually had a vehicle that shows a weight...

    Gas smell

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. I have not had any fail from them. It's a genuine Delphi. I've had a more expensive Carter pump fail and it had no warranty. So I was out the time and effort to go recover the vehicle, plus the time to replace it, plus the cost of the new pump...

    Trailering your square body

If those are 3/4 or 1-ton trucks, they are likely well over 4k. My 1980 K25 8600GVW pickup weighs in at ~5400lbs on the scale. That's with a 350/TH400/NP205 and 14BFF rear with the big 13" brakes. When it broke down out in the woods hunting a few years ago I took a friends ~20ft car trailer with...

    Gas smell

I have ran two different delphi pumps from autozone on two different motors and have had zero failures. I rebuilt a 350 and ran a new Carter pump on it that failed after ~500 miles while I was out in the middle of the woods hunting. The internal pump arm end had just sheared off. Replaced it...

Repopped Fender Badges-where to buy quality badges?

Unfortunately no one seems to make the GMC stuff for 73-80. I ended up having to keep an eye out for original Sierra Classic 25 badges that werent completely destroyed and then stripped them and found OEM matching paint to restore them myself. They will go on when I get around to putting on the...

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

Yep. Thats what is going in mine... hopefully soon(I know I keep saying that). I bought a running/driving 1997 K2500 Suburban for $500 and gutted it. I sold ~$1000 worth of parts off it, took what I needed for the swap into my truck, then sent the rest to scrap. I rebuilt the engine and trans...
