New motor... from 250 to 350

well, the motor was going to need a full rebuild too, so I backed out. Thanks for the help. Perhaps someone has a good non- integral 6 cylinder head for the present 250-6

New motor... from 250 to 350

I ran across a good built 350 for $1000. My truck is a base 6 cylinder 1981 that runs good, on an original 6 cylinder with 80,000 miles on it. I'm the second owner and bought from a friend who was the first. So, if I get the motor what upgrades must be done... Tires, wheels, rear locker in my...

    turn signal issue

I had a socket with a bad ground. The socket itself was bad. I rebuilt the socket with a good ground wire and the problem was solved. I then replaced the repaired socket with a new one.

What have you done to your square lately??

So, when I had the seat out, I took my excess, on the shelf left over dynamat kinda stuff and insulated the back wall and under the seat, as much as I could. Been driving with the new seat and really like how much quieter it is. So, now I can really hear the loose vent window whistle as I go...

    Favorite Project Truck Sales Pitches

Car is all original and straight. (It was as ripply as water on a windy day) No rust anywhere! (that you can see. Entire car behind A pillar was covered with mounds of bondo and a cheap paint job. It had new fenders and hood up front) Oh, headlights were in upside down..

    Brake line, opinions needed.

I do it professionally and make my own to fit. You only need a good bender (cheap) and a great double flare tool (not so cheap). Prebent long lines come bent into knots to ship them..don't use stainless line, as it is too hard for home tools. A good flare tool has dies and a fixture that is held...

What have you done to your square lately??

Yes indeed. Both side of the framing of the bed. Heavy plates above and below the bed floor with 4 large bolts through. I think it came with angle iron for underneath the bed.

    Multimeters?

OK guys. We're car guys (and gals I hope) but, none of your meters to tach/dwell functions. The Innova and Actron are both automotive meters, and my Milwakee in the middle. I also have a Fluke 77. Years ago I traded my high eng fluke for the 77 as the tech who had the 77 was much smarter than...

What have you done to your square lately??

A Crane! This was a good addition to my pickup. Use it only occasionally, mostly for moving engines. I bought this cheap harper frought crane and bolted it into the bed. Handy. No issues, it does what its supposed to do. Removing the tailgate is easy if needed, but not mandatory. Also, I use a...

What have you done to your square lately??

While I'm waiting for the seat to come back, I had this on the shelf.. Generic Dynamat works as good as the original, and after years and years, It may in fact come off if you wish. quieter already!

Leaking Optima red top battery X2

16.4 volts is too much. Alternator or voltage regulator is suspect, and will cook any battery.

    Battery posts corrosion wtf

yup. posts are leaking, try Grit dog's RTV fix, and get those silly little green red pads (they neutralize acid).

What have you done to your square lately??

No, its just plain blue vinyl. Heavy, thick, padded blue. My truck is not perfect, with rust in door jams and other places. A cheap driver is all I'm after. I try to use it as a truck, to carry engines and make runs to dump.

    4.1L 250 cid L6 w/ integrated head -- Need Help w/ Rebuild or Upgrade

Same problem here. Except mine currently runs great with only 80,000 on the engine (except valve ticking). I even have the cat! Anyone still have a 250 6 cylinder head (non integrated) and intake / exhaust manifold leads? Or, perhaps a 292?

    torque sticks

Using torque sticks is dumb. The Project farm guy (On YT) proves that if you keep hammering with your gun on the torque stick the bolt keeps getting tighter. and tighter. Discount tire are pros at overtorqueing lug nuts with their torque sticks. They tighten with the torque stick, and then, go...

    jack parts

I didn't have the factory jack in mine, so bought a scissor jack and put in a shelf where old jack used to go. I use it for tools, oil and other stuff when I'm working on the truck.
