What have you done to your square lately??

Can my truck have a sleepover to replace gas tanks, sending units, and hard lines one day?... I'm in Midlothian and travel to Mathews County to our Family house in the bay often...not too far from the beach BUOY!

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

@Dutch Rutter , @nvrenuf , @bucket , @Turbo4whl ...thank you all for such quick responses. I am a "shade tree" mechanic and am a chef/deli grocery guy by trade so all input is helpful for me. I really love doing things to my truck and hone both my grandfather's intuition when doing so. Fairly...

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got the steering stabilizer on. And took it for a spin, after hosing off days of pollen collected. There is just a touch more firmness to the turning and actually a little bit of recoil when letting go. It feels a little better. Cruised through the neighborhood and hit up Advance to buy...

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Got this resolved. Double nut method, a vice grip, PB Blaster, and breaker bar got it loose. Mallet popped it right out. One older but perfectly fine stud that fits the light duty 1/2 ton tie rod, as @bucket stated, and one new stud for the bracket attached to the axle tubing. Thank you all for...

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Do you think this tie rod is not original to the truck? It looks like it is when your face is right up on it but who knows...

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

It definitely doesn't have a tapered hole that the new studs need. It is actually just a straight shot, no taper. I took a picture earlier...

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Yes I am going to try the double nut method and see if I can pry them out. The old studs are a match to the new studs as far as size, the old and new nuts fit on both old and new threads. What I am trying to say is the new hardware has the same size nuts. I just need the old studs to make it...

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Trust me I tried both ways. I will try again tomorrow just to triple check but either way the threads do not go far enough through the tie rod. It's like they didn't make the threads go down far enough.

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Yes. That is what the diagram shows from the box. Threads on both sides. Neither side is long enough for threads to breach the other side of the tie rod and secure a nut to it. I will have to post more pics tomorrow.

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

@bucket , @animal , @HotRodPC My last post is under review before being seen by members. Did I do something wrong? Talking about a specific brand too much? Please advise. -Sam

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

The stud for the tie rod end does not have long enough threads to go through the tie rod. Old VS New

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

I was racking my brain about how to get the bolts out of the old unit. Vice grip and hammer? There is a nut on both sides the same size the new one comes with but I don't see if they are attached or not.

Steering Stabilizer Different Than Current One Even When Said To Be Exact Fit/ Bolt Doesn't Fit Through Tie Rod

Was in the process of replacing the steering stabilizer(dampener). The old one came off fairly easily and was loose as a Goose so I was very excited to be replacing with a new one that was toight like a toiger. Then realized these are different bolts and different stabilizers completely. I...

What have you done to your square lately??

Was looking around under the truck to verify that I have a 700R4 trans. and doing a little clean up of the typical slight oil leakage. Also wanted to see If I could ID my rear axle and find transfer case tags. Everything is a little too gunky so I decided I would clean things up a bit. Picked up...
