Very nice, Sgt. It's no fun doing that under the car. At the track. In the rain. More than once. K

    Mirror correct for ‘81?

Buncha haters - ;) You all might note that "dumbo" is not a particularly flattering term. K

That's the torque for the pinion only (no ring gear, axles or tire wheels). K

    pinion yoke

That's the rotating torque on the pinion assembly after the nut is torqued (ie, 12 in lbs to spin the yoke after it's all together). It will take some torque, like 100+ ft lbs, to run a new nut down (they are a prevailing torque type) and crush the sleeve to get to that point. This would be...

Dual Reservoir Brake Master Cylinder - which outlet for F vs R?

The master you have shown is for the M/L Astro/Safari van. The reason the front reservoir (for the rear system) is so small is for hood clearance, as you might imagine. You should be able to find another master cylinder with the same characteristics (bore, outboard fittings, thread size, quick...

    Decorative front license plate poll

I had an expired MO plate on the front of my '80 just for fun. Michigan only required one plate at the time so I was ok until I went to Missouri to visit relatives. Got pulled over and, in the end, I think it was just because the trooper saw that expired plate on the front and got confused...

    SPID Placement in glove box

Here's where it goes. My guy used to install them when I was a supervisor on the line (same guy that installed the cab high running lights, and built up and installed the floor shifters). No template or anything; he just slapped them in. I watched him do about 900,000 of them. K NO

    Chevy Lean Issue. Need Guidance

In defense of my managers, they did give us every conceivable resource we could ask for to combat this problem - until the next shiny hardy perennial problem came along (eg vent window wind noise, or driveline imbalance, or tire imbalance, or door closing effort) at which point they would pull...

    Chevy Lean Issue. Need Guidance

'Preciate the insights on 55 year old design and manufacturing technologies. I'm pretty sure they are out of the warranty period by now. We sold 15 million so I guess it wasn't so bad. K

    Chevy Lean Issue. Need Guidance

Yes. I am saying it should be evened out. These trucks leaned when new. K

    Chevy Lean Issue. Need Guidance

Put a spacer in it. For the leaf spring: you don't have to weld anything. Just take a chunk of the material and size of your choice and capture it with the center pin that holds the leaf pack together. Put the head of the pin/bolt back in the pilot hole of the axle pad just like it was...

I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much

We had a black '75 regular cab that we pulled a 5th wheel travel trailer with. Growing up, we would vacation in that rig: Mom, Dad, me and my sister, and the dog - in the cab of that truck. No air. From Michigan to Phoenix and back. We'd get back and Dad's left arm would be all tanned, and...

Ok - now that I'm not driving it every day I will admit the shifter is a bit sloppy - but all other comments still apply. ;) K

I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much

I must respectfully disagree. My square was a daily for 30 years (and 200,000 miles), which included commuting to work, light hauling, part chasing, pulling trailers, and moving from Michigan to Arizona (with a car on the trailer). It was, and is, one of the most comfortable vehicles I own...

    86 suburban 2wd to 4wd

You are right. That is a clean truck. You may have already comprehended this but the 2wd bolt pattern is 5 lug and the 4wd pattern is 6 lug, so you'll have to make an adjustment somewhere for that, too. K
