    86 suburban 2wd to 4wd

The "why" is because the engineer has to accommodate every possible scenario: new, used (ie, 200,000 miles with beat down body mounts) in 1/2, 3/4 and one ton models in both 2wd and 4wd, with every possible engine/transmission/t case combination, and still leave about 1" clearance and do it...

    86 suburban 2wd to 4wd

Yes - you'll need a new floor hump. All column shift 2wd (ie, auto or three on the tree) got the low hump floor; all floor shifted manuals and all 4wd got the high hump floor. (Unless you want to just go freestyle and create clearance locally wherever you need it) K

    Dead battery

This. RPO TP2 was the spare battery on gas jobs (pickup only). It was an auxiliary battery for campers and trailers and was therefore wired differently than the dual battery setup on diesel. TP2 was not available on Suburban, but there was an SEO setup for Suburban (that would be super rare). K

    coolant reservoir cap???????

Sounds like the difference to me between an "overflow tank" and a "surge tank". Overflow = one way; coolant moves from the radiator to the tank as catch can, but is not drawn back in. Surge = two way. coolant can move from the hot side into the tank, and then be drawn back in as the system...

Replacement Option Code Glove Box Label for my 86 GMC High Sierra

Here (unless you've found a build sheet in the truck). They invoice looks like this:

Replacement Option Code Glove Box Label for my 86 GMC High Sierra

The residue you are seeing on the left side is what remains of the camper label. I'm not sure anyone reproduces those. Although - the calculations reside in the Generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center archives here...

Replacement Option Code Glove Box Label for my 86 GMC High Sierra

Agree. You can contact the GM Heritage Center for a copy of the original invoice based on your VIN. I believe it is $50 to do that. That will show all the RPO codes, pricing, build timing, discounts and original selling dealership. Then contact Jeff at https://outintheshop.com/ to have a new...

    Crooked bed?

We had "box lean" when vehicles were new. Typically upper management would get all excited about it and we would launch into some deep, involved design study. Then, usually before we figured anything out, they would be off on some other big concern and those resources would be reallocated to...

    Crooked bed?

Ackshullly - They did. Just like the shims we would use to fit fenders to the body, we would also place shims under certain body mounts if the cabs were building off. We would run that set up until the repair area called back and told us to remove them or move them somewhere else. Also - the...

1 - Place the transmission shift lever in Neutral 2 - Adjust the clip until the needle is centered on the "N". Should take less that 45 seconds. K

    85-86 ZY6 paint stripes measurements

At the last race I had a guy ask if my Chevelle is a '73 or '74, and I said '73. I have no idea why I said that! I've been telling people it's a '74 (which it is) for 45 years. My mind must have been somewhere else. K

    Rear leaf spring suburban?

I can't tell anything from the photos, but I will say the repair on the assembly line for a missing or mis-hit rivet was a 3/8" bolt and nut. K

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Agree - not good. Your best hope is to put some clearance in the floor and see if you can get the trans up. Moving the pinion around is not really going to help. One other option would be to add a CV (constant Velocity) joint on the front, but now you are into additional engineering and...

That absolutely makes sense. We don't even try if there is very much of a curve at all. K

Vinyl wrap is a lot harder than it looks on YouTube. Lol

I would suggest starting from more of the middle and working out from there. Are you putting this on dry? Is there any opportunity to use an application solution of some kind (ie, soapy water mix, or commercially available product)? We use distilled water with 5-7 drops of baby shampoo for...

Patch panel to “fix” hole in bed from former 5th wheel hitch??

Do you mean gooseneck hitch? I can't imagine a fifth wheel hitch would leave a big hole (just the smaller bolt holes). K

    break qustion

I can add that that height sensing valve was a Rube Goldberg-esque attempt at a mechanical anti lock brake system, before there was an electronic version. It was specifically added to help meet MVSS Federal standards for stopping distance. Some test scenarios (any of of a combination by model...
