    Waffling

They are less than practical for more reasons than one, but man if they don’t look cool- Get two of these bad boys (tires not wheels) on the back And two basic bias tires up front. Not at all practical but I think they look great on steel wheels with dog dishes.

    A833 transmission

It would appear so on the ratios. I'd think with 3.73-4.10 gear ratio and 31-33" tires it would make a nice combination. Being they are really car, not truck transmissions, they should be (with a good shifter) able to bang gears pretty good. A lot better than a sm465 would lol.

    A833 transmission

One thing to note is the 833 used in square bodies is the overdrive variant, with a 3.09 first. The old Mopars pre 1975 are a direct drive (the overdrive units used 3rd for overdrive, so the one shift lever is flipped to make the pattern correct), with 3.09, 2.66/2.65, or 2.44 first ratio...

Opinion thread- 81 silverado grill you like or ?

I like them, but they have to (in my opinion) be complete with the 81-82 bumper, bezels, etc. Kind of a throwback to the 71-72 trucks with the turn signals in the bumper.

What new tools have you got lately?

Been working towards getting things (more) organized up at the shop, the wrench drawers were in pretty sorry shape, I bought some more wrench rails, OEMTOOLS 22218, I used these in my 72" box at home and like them. At $10 for a pair they are very reasonable compared to toolbox widget or others...

    Filling in seams

The drip rails also help hide the sometimes not great door gaps up top, keeps them in the shadows.

    Filling in seams

On the 79 I welded and smoothed the roof to b pillar/cab rear seams. I had to patch the drivers side so it was an easy choice to fill them in. Pictures are not really focused on those areas, but you can see them enough I think.

    6.0 NV4500 K30 swap

The weak points of the 208/241 (C,DLD,DHD) are really the cases themselves. The internals are plenty strong. The 241C are pretty much the same as the 241DLD, besides the drivers vs passenger side drop (for the ones of interest for a squarebody). Internally they use the same chains, and most...

No carrier shims, still pinion shims. Why stop at the 14 bolt. 2.5 ton Rockwells is really the best answer.

Another score from the candy store.

That’s kind of the rub of the situation, the carrier bearings (and pinion bearings) both want to be preloaded, running with improper (not enough) preload will very likely lead to an early failure for the bearings. What you set as the backlash should remain consistent, if you set it up at three...

What have you done to your square lately??

I run/ran 15-40 in all my engines, Dart, 76 (currently has VR1 20-50 in it), and the Cummins. All have been driven in the winter and below freezing. The Cummins and the 76 both have been used when below 0°. Just let things warm up before putting the tach into the ketchup and mustard.

What new tools have you got lately?

If you do not climate control your shop space, or don’t mind losing conditioned air, venting outside is fine. However, with a cyclone separator and a quality filter, like a Wynn environmental or Donaldson class 8 truck filter (what I use on my dust collector in the Woodshop) it should actually...

    Dynamic compression

I don't believe that to be too high, likely could not run 87 octane without pulling timing to prevent pinging, but should be ok on 93 octane.

Another score from the candy store.

.003 backlash? That is way too tight for a street driven setup. For a 12 bolt .006-.010 backlash. If they are used gears I like to check the backlash before disassembly and make note of it, and match it upon reinstallation as the gears had worn and created their mesh at that position. For the...

What did you pay for a square

The 76 was $2000, purchased September 2016. Running and driving. The 79 was $200, purchased May 2018. Not running, driving, or rolling. The 85 roller I parted out was $550, purchased September 2019. Of course, at this point many dollars more than those purchase prices in parts and such since...
