You can put a 4:10 in it, but with automatic, that will be too low. I would put a 3:73 in it.- JBswth

About me.
I'll take some with my wife's cell phone. It doesn't really look like a 73, as it has a 77 - 80 type grille, and 1980 round headlight frame. It isn't pretty right now, pretty ratty looking. I do have nice new tires and good hubcaps on though.- JBswth

And, if your diesel is late 70s, not 1980, it is smog exempt here in California, which means you could put anything you want in it. Even a 455 from a 442 Hurst W30!- JBswth

If you gear the rear end down ie if 2.73 now, try 3.36. That should give you a welcome boost in pulling power.- JBswth

Ls swap questions
A 5.3 is smaller than your 350, so it won't have the low-RPM torque as a 350. You might have to gear down, or else it might feel boggy off the line.- JBswth

CA legal LS swap
For anybody in California thinking of buying a Square Body and putting an LS in it, your best bet would be to get a 73 or 74, (no smog checks!). That way, you can put a distributor and a carburetor intake on it and no damn EGR valve, no AIR pump, no computers, and no catalytic converter. You...- JBswth
