Steering box frame reinforcement weld in plates

Maybe because mine do not have power steering? J. B.

Steering box frame reinforcement weld in plates

Mine, a 73, has never cracked, and neither did my 81.

That's good, maybe something was in there and fell out unnoticed.

Straight 8 Buick With Belt Driven FI

Dual deuces. In 1941 - 42, most Buicks used a dual 2 barrel setup, called Compound Carburetion. They were progressively linked, so they functioned like a single 4 barrel. Some folks retrofitted earlier and later models with this setup often with dual exhausts, and some replaced the secondary...

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

n A bad cam would, at worse, result in affected cylinders seemingly misfiring, especially at speeds above idle speed, and maybe noisy lifters, but not knocks. J. B.

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

Hmm, possible that they put in a defective throwout bearing, or maybe lost one of the pressure plate to flywheel bolts, and replaced it with one that is too long and is striking something. Many years ago, I had my brother take my car to an acquaintance of his to replace a blown headgasket, (I...

Taller tires for my 1976 K20

Problem is, radials exert more outward pressure at the bead, but to each his own. J.B.

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

No, not if it No, not if it was built that way. They have to test it before they can label it a "Gross Polluter".

Taller tires for my 1976 K20

Rims designed for radials are indeed stronger. If you no longer load your truck up and just tool around in it, you will be fine, but if you still work you truck, using radials on older lighter rims is pushing it. J.B.

    Transmission Upgrade?

That's pretty surprising, as you would think that the bed would act like a scoop and catch the air. J.B.

Maybe they backed off on that then, because I had a vehicle labeled as such in the 90s as such and I had to have a Repair Only facility repair it and I had to show the receipts. J.B.

    Transmission Upgrade?

Talking about a 70s - 80s gasser Squarebody. A diesel will always use less fuel. And by Japanese-like mileage I am talking about 30 or more MPG in a Squarebody. Can't be done with the stock gas engine. J. B.

    8-track player install

Yes indeed. I have no desire to put a modern radio in my Squarebody. I still play my 8 track tapes, just like I still play my phonograph records. J.B.

    8-track player install

Actually the 4 track was first. Earl "Madman" Muntz came out with them and the players. That is the same Madman Muntz that sold the Muntz Jet car.

    Transmission Upgrade?

Putting a camper shell on it will give you 2 or 3 more MPG on the freeway, as the open bed acts like a big air brake that you engine is always working against. But nothing is going to give you Japanese-like mileage if that's what you are looking for. J.B.

    Truck pulls to the right.

You might have a flex hose that is coming apart on the inside, so that the separated section(s) is acting like a baffle that allows fluid to move toward the wheel cylinder, but then blocks it from returning, causing a tight brake applies harder than the opposite one. If you are in a traffic...

    Door sills

I have always thought the black plastic was for the base models and the aluminum was for the high-line models. The aluminum ones look better. J.B.

    Automatic slack adjuster lever question

Previous owner probably lost some of the parts and didn't mind periodically adjusting the brakes, so he never bothered ordering replacements. Maybe he was just too cheap! J.B.

I would do those things, then have a PRE-CHECK. That way if it flunks, you won't have to worry about them labeling it a Gross Polluter. When a vehicle is labeled a Gross Polluter, you will have to bring it to a repair only facility and have THEM fix it no matter how expensive it is, then, I...

Power steering fluid .. what type ?

Red power steering fluid is just low-grade ATF in smaller containers, and, of course, a higher price. J.B.
