1985 K5 keeps breaking starters, help!

Another thing on my Burb that was eating starters until I got the flexplate replaced: the distributor cap was really bad corroded, and the rotor wasn't great either. I think the PO probably ran it too long like that, and it misfired bad enough to not be firing properly right as it started...

    bow tie for c10…

You want one of the flatter Bowties; the square body trucks use a flatter part than the OBS trucks do. The OBS ones definitely have a bend in them.

Must Replace Battery Tray 87 V10

I've seen a few people adapt a .50 caliber or similar size metal ammo box to do the same thing.

Must Replace Battery Tray 87 V10

Like this....goes on the driver's side, in place of a second battery. OBS trucks have the main battery on the passenger side.

What motor is best for a swap on a K25

350 or 400 small block. Lots of torque in the lower RPM ranges where you need it for a 4x4. Factory offered the 400 in them for that reason....

Must Replace Battery Tray 87 V10

Hard time finding the correct carrier bearing from local parts house.

So you get a lot of the weather that comes over from the DFW area and central Texas. These last couple of fronts have stretched out all across the state.... shaking the trailer a bit (and not in the good way LoL).

What have you done to your square lately??

You might be able to repaint that semi gloss black, and touch up the woodgrain, with model car enamel paint and small paint brushes. If you have a good hobby shop or model train shop in your area, see what they have available for paint. I think model RR stuff should have a yellow close to that...

Hard time finding the correct carrier bearing from local parts house.

Yup we had some heavy weather coming through Houston last night/early this morning. What part of LA are you in?

A little info about wrench sizes

Something else I've seen in this area: the lug nuts on the 8 lug trucks, and the later OBS 5 lugs like my Burb, are 7/8" hex. But some of these are 22mm, and while the two sizes are close, they're not the same. Saw this, doing brake work (or attempting to) on my crew cab. And a couple of the lug...

1985 K5 keeps breaking starters, help!

I think it's 168 and 153? Also be sure the flexplate is tight on the crank and torque converter, and all bolts are tight. One of the problems our '81 Sierra had was probably a loose bolt on the flexplate. But it didn't act up very often, and you could get it to start by bumping the key a couple...

    99 tahoe shorty

Yes, 92,93, 94 they were Blazer's and Jimmy's. Then in 95 when the Tahoe/Yukon 4 doors came out, they were changed to the Tahoe and Yukon nameplates. And the prices are high here too, can't touch one for under 10K unless it's needing a lot of attention.

    1980 Roundeye GMC

I have one that I think came out of a '77-'78 truck. Dad bought it and new kick panels for the '77 burb he was restoring. Still have them, don't think the hood release has been installed on a truck. Kicks are Saddle Tan.

    ‘84 C20 454 in Nevada

Funny how things have changed! Back in 2005, when our '84 Burb got stolen, we needed another Burb. It was the middle of fall swap meet season, and also the middle of hurricane season. Katrina had just happened, and there were other systems in the Atlantic that might get in the Gulf. We had one...

Dash light question (Is there a bulb back there?)

A #168 bulb will give you half again as much light as a #194. 3 candlepower instead of 2. Exact same base. That's the old school way of upgrading the cluster lights, before LEDs were a thing.

    Dim Dash Lights

#168 bulbs in the dash lights will be brighter by 50% (3 candlepower instead of 2) than the #194 that are probably in there. That's how we did it, back in the day, before LED bulbs were a thing.

What have you done to your square lately??

Looks great! Our '84 Burb was that color combo, with the blue velour interior. Bought it in '92 for $4000, drove it all over for 13 years, Dad and I went through it from bumper to bumper, and it got stolen in 2005.

Which is the correct fuel tank ?

Probably; I remember the lever under the front edge of the seat(mounted to floorboard?) and it seems like it would stick. Maybe the cable or mechanism needed lubricant? I think the later trucks (78 & 81)had the toggle switch in the dash next to the ashtray; where the rear window switch is on a...

Chevy Replacement Grill with 350 emblem option

Great information in that Thom Taylor illustration...but the sculptured hood front is '79 and '80 only. Our '77 and '78 trucks did not have that, but the '79 did. The typeface/font for the numbers on the 73-74 engine emblem is more Old Western looking, the 75-up one is a different style. Hard to...

Which is the correct fuel tank ?

IIRC it was a manual valve, but it's been a looooong time since we drove that truck. Got parked(inside) in '79 after getting wrecked, and after being in a couple different buildings it got sold in 2016.

Which is the correct fuel tank ?

Dad's 75 GMC Sierra Classic had a factory tank on the driver's side, 20 gallons IIRC. The dealership sent it to another shop to have an auxiliary tank added to the passenger side. That shop didn't do such a great job; the neck stuck out too far and we always had problems with the switching valve.

Which is the correct fuel tank ?

Best of my recollection, our '78 GMC longbed had two 20s, and our '81 GMC longbed had two 16s. During the workday we'd just run it on one tank, but on road trips (or when gas was scarce) we'd use both. One of my jobs was to gas them up, and I'd have to climb in the bed and pull the hose and...
