81 up dash pad anyone bought one recently

I bought a Coverlay for my C30 and son's S10. Fast shipping and good choice of colors. Just got them this week so haven't had a chance to install yet. I paid $280 shipped for both with a coupon I got from a carshow. Quality looks good, hope the fit is as well.

    Ramp truck - not mine

I would love to own something like that. Plus I want the spoiler.

    Rear Brake Options 87

Rebuild the drums. You won't find much if any improvement in performance with rear disc's unless you are looking at a big brake kit with 4-6 pistons. The rear brakes do 30-40% of the braking, less unloaded. Disc's might give you a 10% improvement over the drums. So 10% of 30-40% isn't much and...

    Building a new brake system

I'd consider a hydroboost system. You can piece one together from an Astro Van or newer truck, but I'd reach out to CPP. They are small, somewhat clean, and work real well.

    Brother inlaw's 93 s10

Nice, we are starting a '93 S10 build as well. Ours has the 2.8 though. Future plans call for a small LS and 5 speed.

    Door Skin Sound Deadening

I used lizard skin (2 coats ceramic/ 2 coats sound) the entire inside and then also the surface under the door panel. Doors are much more solid sounding when closing. I also put heat shrink on all door rods to prevent rattles.

New crate engine oil priming/ ignition timing impact if the distributor is mis-installed

The assembly lube is for "assembly". Most of it wipes off in the first half second of rotation. Priming ensures you have oil pressure, pump up lifters, and ensures you have lubrication.

    Mirror correct for ‘81?

No, the base is bigger. And I think it leaves a small gap but I've seen it done a few times that came out nice. There is a black showtruck with woodgrain that is in a bunch of magazines but I can't find any images.

    Mirror correct for ‘81?

Below is the 67-72 style. I know a few that have swapped them onto the squarebody as they look similar but are larger. I personally like the small sport mirror and on a shortbed, I don't find it to be an issue.

    Alloy works radiators

$500...Hard to find a radiator shop these days. They have that unique smell of steam, sweat, and acid?

    Mirror correct for ‘81?

If you are having trouble seeing but like the look of that style, you can swap 67-72's on as they are larger but look almost the same. These trucks came with at least 5 different types of mirrors stock that I know of. Power, sport, dumbo, and multiple 3 & 4 post towing variations. I have the...

    Alloy works radiators

As a reminder...you need to buy a $10 zinc anode with aluminum.

New crate engine oil priming/ ignition timing impact if the distributor is mis-installed

All of the above is great advice and I always just point the rotor straight back and use a sharpie to mark... To answer your question about if there is another way..there is and that is with a pressurized pre-luber. You can install temprarily or buy a system that pressurizes the oil system...

    Loaner Bench Seat DFW Area

Just something to think about...Every seat I have reupholstered, I add seat heaters. They are less than a $100 on Amazon for a quality set. I also try and have them add pockets on the back of the seat so that I can store paperwork, etc. On my son's truck, I added rear seat back pockets and a...

    rear bumper

Yes, the suburban bumper is the same as the optional truck "Sport" bumper. You'll need to purchase inner braces though. $50-60 at LMC or find some used.

Thoughts on going down to 37s?

There is some disparity out there on the 6-8 year from date manufactured for replacement. It is supposedly 6-8 years from when they are mounted, aired, and have their first heat cycle. I wanted to put 355/25ZR19's on the rear of my Nova. The problem I found was that the manufacturers, which I...

Thoughts on going down to 37s?

I had the surplus 37's on my K5. I don't recall which brand they were but they measured out exactly at 37". Mine were 3 years old when I bought them new per the date code. They were marked "gov't use only" or something similar. They were substantially thicker/ heavier in sidewalls than what...

    Old77's 1989 S10 tinkering project

I went by Saturday afternoon and it's turning into one of those "I know what I got $$$" situations. I offered him $400 for the entire non-running truck which may be low but they only sell for $2500 running. He moved it (dragged by rope) and opened the hood and worked on it, or at least sat some...

    Suburban dually build

First my thoughts...I'll start with I think dually suburbans are cool. However, adding a dually rear only helps handle the existing load ratings and shouldn't be used to increase capacity. The suburban frame, even 3/4t isnt designed to handle the same capacities as a truck. The C30 dually those...

    Old77's 1989 S10 tinkering project

My son pulled it out this morning and it's a passenger door. We are building a '93 S10 for my son's daily so I've been collecting parts when I can find them. It has the 2.8/ 5 speed, but long-term we plan to put the 4.6LS/ 5 speed out of early 2000's truck into it. For a million of these...

    Old77's 1989 S10 tinkering project

I have a spare door in clean shape. I'd have to pull it out to see which side it is. If its the correct, I could cut a panel out of it if you wanted. Too big to ship the whole door.

    Backspacing help

IMHO, since you are buying 20" wheels...You are better off with the CPP modular spindles and get wheels that will work for them. The modular spindles allow for bigger brakes in case you upgrade and the X10 is designed for big wheels and brakes with a bolt-on hub.

    CNC machined emblems

They look very nice. I see a lot of billet emblems at the shows here in Phoenix. I believe most are made by billet badges.

Who sells the best fitting dash pad. Time for a new one

Thanks for posting. I was actually going to ask you this week about who was making your pads as I got a marketing email the other day highlighting them.
