I would look at Qualitex if you want something more cush. Lots of options for heaters, lumbar, massagers, etc. Expensive but by the time you buy a used seat, make mounts, recover to match interior, make any repairs, etc. it may be cheaper.
I don't know how anyone could do it alone w/ out a hoist. I used to do the crab walk thing with it on my back to the edge and then 3 to lift it off. They are heavy.
If you do decide to remove the doors...drill a hole 3/16ths(???) through each hinge the diameter of a framing nail before removal...
I could not find one for my son's '77. Supposedly, you can send it in directly to Cardone or a couple other places but it runs $200 plus but could never get a firm answer if the service was truly available. I purchased a '78 and later style, a '78 style switch and am in the process of rewiring...
There is a downside to swapping to the van rear axle though. If you ever have to place your truck on a trailer and have wider tires, you can back in to make it fit between the wells. Once you swap to the wider axle, the truck won't fit on most of the 8k trailers.
Additionally, the narrow track...
As mentioned by others, find a reputable Quadrajet builder. You may have to ship it off.
If you swap to Holley, expect a drop in mpg.
If you are in love with the truck, add a Gearvendors overdrive. That'll split your gears making it easier to accelerate, maintain highway speeds, etc and you...
For the front... I've only seen C10 spindles in 2.5" drop. I don't believe any others were made. Doesn't affect travel, load, etc. You should be able to tell if they are stock or drop by looking at them.
In the rear...the most common way to lower a small amount is hangers/ shackles, and again...
I'd check out SD springs website. Lot of good info there. I think C10's could be had with everything from a 3/1 to a 7/1 pack and both 52 or 56" lengths. Depending on what you are doing with the truck, might be worth it to look for a spring shop that can make/ modify to fit your needs.
What kind of distances/ speeds/ elevations/ are you anticipating for your work?
I don't think you are going to be very happy on the highway as you can't tow in OD. Maybe a 1000 pound trailer but much more than that you are relegated in 3rd/ 1:1 ratio. The 700r4 has a good steep 1st gear that...
Crazy how you used to see Beetles everywhere and now its rare. They were a collectible, a teens 1st car, off road baja racer, they could do everything.
I had a few of them. Most had 2180 Type 1's in them. I had hemi conversions, a 16v one, a turbo one, and one with a cut-down B&M 144. Made...
Ecklers.com sells the bow style so I'm sure others do as well. Instead of a board, there are rods that go across. The shippi g box would be long (width of roof) but probably only 6x6" in other dimensions. Easily shippable
I worked for PAW as a teen/ early 20's and they operated a few retail stores in SoCal. The markup on small service items like silicone, spark plugs, oil filters was huge. We used to sell a plastic pan for changing oil from Lisle for $2.50 and our cost was something like 30 cents. For a while I...
I worked at an auto parts store as a teen and we had a tool that measured the belt and we had 100's v-belts hanging on hooks on the wall that you pulled down to match up. Quicker than a book and had pretty much every application.
I try and shop local but when it's a difference of 50% I end up going online.
I prefer Rockauto over Amazon. They have good prices, fair shipping charges, and they usually have a choice of 4-5 different brands. I've had some bad luck with Amazon parts not being quite what they advertise. It may...
While that would be a neat tool to have, unless you do this job regularly, probably not worth the expense.
I typically use 2 tie downs crisscross across the bed and hook to the cherry picker. Expect the bed to flex.
The biggest problem I encounter is that most cherry pickers don't have enough...
I'd call all the local custom shops in your area for used parts. In Phoenix, there are hundreds of lowered C30's so I would think there is a ton of used parts available.
Have you looked to see if the old style headliners that were used before boards is available for Suburbans? The kind with bows? For crewcabs, they do not make the reproduction boards so the aftermarket sells the bow style. That would be considerably less expensive to ship.
The frames are not the same. There are posts on this forum that list the differences. I assume the >8200 is either taller or thicker and therefore the kit doesn't physically fit. Possibly 50% of the kit would work. You can still shorten your frame, you just have to do the legwork of measuring...
I bought this off a '90 Suburban. All aluminum brackets w/ ac on pass side. $80 junkyard price and another $200 or so for new pulleys, pumps, tensioner, etc and powdercoating. Currently has a ac delete pulley but it came with a good core compressor for when I add the ac, but will probably...
Thanks Kilian...are they split rims? I'll PM you, probably not the style I'm looking for but still be interesting to see. I'm in AZ, but willing to pay for shipping for the right set.
Some of these appear to be knock-offs but plenty on ebay. Better to have a knock-off than nothing at all. Some foam padding on the inside will help keep it tight to the column.
I use the simjack style as they work. They're still available on ebay for $100. Be careful as there is a knockoff that has a cheap lock. The genuine has a ramped striker and a half moon key.
There used to be a heavy duty version that used a padlock.
