Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

Knock on wood. The only steering box I’ve replaced in the last 30 ish years was a cheap reman from Napa that I needed in a pinch and got lucky it was a good one. Have you eliminated the slop to a delay between the input and output of the steering box I presume?

Ya it was tongue in cheek. I’ve had 3 new Chebbies and a Ford company truck in the last 8 years and I’d take the Dodge for some reasons and the chebbies for others. The Ford is fine …lol And 2 Hemi cars that have been largely trouble free. Engines have had zero issues in either. Luck of the...

How would you make this truck less ugly??

You could park it next to this bucket of rust…that would make it look much better! Proof that not all PNW vehicles are rust free! Lol. If you let them sit next to the beach for 40 years they get a little salty!

Had aV6 Ram rental 4x4 couple months ago. Boy was that thing a turd at 5-10kft elevation! Lol Trans worked great just like any other 8HP. Although I can see if one is used to and comfortable with a transmission that can only make 1 or maybe 2 choices best case, that getting used to 6-10speed...

Ya you’ve said that before. What in particular? This one is super low miles. 36k on it. No tick. The trans, idk, I feel like the 8HP is top of the heap. Havent had a personal vehicle 5.7 hemi yet, but a combined 150k on a 6.1 and 60k+ on a 6.4, both engines had/have been 100% trouble free.

Got a new DD. The Bitchin Camaro is getting turned into a pickup truck. My younger son is moving to Montana to play junior A hockey! The mero ain’t a winter wagon and the blue truck is staying warm here in WA. He’s building houses in Idaho right now to pay for part of this. The rest is...

That’s the first pic I could see where they shortened your truck bed. Pretty good work if ya can’t see it until zooming in on an internet closeup!

Dude you’re right! Good catch. And Juan, after you straighten it up and re torque, re torque it a couple more times after driving it around some. Lookin good

How would you make this truck less ugly??

Looks about as good as it can without a lot of help. Like you said, get rid of the trim mounts. Polish it up. It’s got actual patina so that’s cool. Not 4 coats of half flaking off paint. Find some used trim, toss the rear bumper. New ones are dime a dozen. And drive it. I’d also use this...

Nice truck! Identical color to my dads 2nd square. God I thought that was an ugly color combo when I was 16. Now I like it and bought a grampa brown truck myself….lol.

PS. The difference in pressure vs altitude is about 3psi/1000vf. So your 25 psi in LA would be like 29psi.

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

Nah, actually you’d have more pressure in the tires at higher altitude when you landed your imaginary airplane. Sorry bud. and new tires aren’t harder to balance than used tires. Not sure how else to say it.

    86 C20 4" lift? Options?

You don’t see lift kits for old 2wd trucks because virtually no one does that. I’m sure someone makes something but short of expensive/custom prerunner type stuff, there’s not much/anything out there that I’ve seen.

Leaf Spring Install Advice - Won't line up, shackle angle

If you put the same springs back in, in the same direction, nothing is wrong. Take the driveshaft off, bolt the axle up and set it down. Or just slide the axle forward. From the pics it looks like the axle moved back. The axle doesn’t move 2.5” front to back in suspension cycling. It’s much...

What makes newish tires more out of balance than old-ish tires? Yes I suppose it has happened where sticky weights have come off, probably from not cleaning the wheel surface. The glue is whatever sticky tape that they are mfg with. Noone is gluing down weights. And someone sabotaging your tire...

    Rear disc conversion

If you’re up against rebuilding and replacing everything on the rear brakes including drums, then maybe it’s the right time to convert. Similar cost magnitude. Or if you plan on daily driving it through a couple sets of brake pads like you’re gonna pile on 150k miles in the next 5 years. I’d...

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

And if you think it may be a bad tire balance swap it with a rear wheel to verify. Even though you bought staggered wheels. It’ll tell you if that’s part of or all of the vibration problem. Bigger tires often take a lot of weight. And tire shops often suck at trying to minimize the weight vs...

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

What caused you to replace the steering box? Did it have DW before replacing? Did you drive it at highway speed before replacing? Honestly between the DW, the lack of returning to center the same and the 10deg of what I’m perceiving to be slop (although I could be misunderstanding what you’re...

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

Sounds like a couple wore out parts and the steering box could be one of them. And toe out will just make it wander and exaggerate other problems. Used to “fix” sloppy steering when selling an old vehicle by toeing in the tires too much. Opposite happens if toe out. But if you replaced the...

Recommendation for frame repair PORTLAND, OR

There’s some Portlanders on here. Maybe haven someone who could weld it back on. It’ll help to have the bed off and it ready to weld on. Then it’s a quick project for anyone who’s a decent welder.

    Shocks are like steel bars.

Gotta figure out what’s making it jarring. Not likely shocks. They are usually good or blown. They don’t get stiffer. But that’s easy to diagnose. Disconnect front or rear and go for a ride. Rear springs will be rough. Period. Fronts could be bottoming out but you can see evidence of that. And...

If you get a chrome lock strip may try to “dull” or round the edge of the lock strip tool. I had a new lock tool and managed to scrape the chrome plastic coating in a few spots.

2in lift - Does anything need to be adjusted?

Can’t speak for K10 but my K20 came with 4” lift and original brake hoses. They actually worked but were tight. 2” lift “should be ok. Just jack the frame up 2” and see if there’s still some slack in the existing hoses. Same with Pittman arm. I’d try it stock first. You can always change it...
