    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Top gear is still 1:1 unless you have a rare A833 but those were only in a few 1/2 tons. Trans will cost more than gears. And will be about the same result. But more mods than just gears. No “easy” answer here, really. I’d actually be more inclined to swap a 5 or 6 speed manual. Again being...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

That’ll still be basically useless on the highway. 4.10s and 35s are 3krpms at 70mph 1:1.

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Yeah it’s like the one consistent thing in life..lol. 30+ years ago they were getting it right and now they still do. I don’t do many stereos but if it’s in need of the right adapter harnesses etc, I trust Crutchfield will have the right parts in the box when it shows up.

I’m more intrigued with how you got tires from Costco that weren’t original size for original size rims. Fck that place. I never could get them to sell me tires that weren’t in their database as original size. Hell, had to argue with one of those dipshits to buy batteries recently. Was insistent...

Thats pretty good for what you got. In the OPs case we have no idea what he’s talking about to even make a suggestion. Sounds like he suddenly is getting worse mileage but unsure of past or current mileage.

never jerk a stuck truck with a chain

Wow, well use whatcha got I suppose. If you were closer I’d give you some more manageable sized old lifting slings to pack around. Fortunately I don’t use tow straps much (knock on wood) and there’s always an ample supply every time a sling gets a cut or nick and isn’t osha legal anymore.

What’s the best polish for the bumpers and mirrors

No they don’t. I thought it was the visor on the blue truck that interrupted the airflow but it’s the same on the 77. It works but not as good as a flatter slope windshield.

Winter blend gas usually is only a couple % less efficient. Hardly noticeable. Certainly not grossly worse. However $120 in 13 days “ not driving much” doesn’t even begin to calculate to fuel mileage and even if it did, no basis for comparison. Idk if the wet side of the Cascades runs winter gas...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Haven’t seen those little helper coils in a coons age. I put a set of those on my ‘90 GMC back in the day. They were a great economical option at the time. Really liked them. Of course unnecessary for a daily driver with nothing in the bed.

What’s the best polish for the bumpers and mirrors

I’ll have to try the rain x washer juice again. I don’t recall it being very effective although it may have been diluted with regular blue juice. Never tried the wipers. I just use the actual rain x. If I apply it properly it seems to last about a week in our (almost constant) rain. Most of...

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

Honestly they’re fine, IMO. They’re steel and they will hold the wheels on. If you don’t want spline drive, they make extra long hex lugs as well. Also about $1/ea for a set on Scamazon. I’ve used a few cheap lug nut sets from Amazon. One on the C10. Both were/are fine. Not saying the...

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

Do you have enough thread engagement or do you need extended shank lugs as well. Check that out first. Ideally you want a min of the bolt diameter in threads. About 20 threads. Had to get the ext lugs for alloy wheelson my C10 and the old aluminum wheels on the K20 had marginal thread...

    Tire size confusion.

4.56 is tough duty without OD or huge tires if you want to do more than haul heavy or drive around town. Even 4.10s and 35s suck above 60 mph with a 3 speed trans. I’d say 255s are ok if you have a little clearance between the duals. I’d take anything over 1/4” and be fine with it unless...

    Tire size confusion.

235 85s are bout perfect I think with no lift and no spacers. 255 85s if you want a taller wider tire but idk how much space between the duals will be left without spacers. You’ll lose about 3/4” going 255s.

    8l90E trans shudder

Good luck, man. Hope a service fixes it. There’s reason they didn’t offer them for long. I didn’t know they kept them that long. My 16 Silverado had a tq converter shudder since new. Most pronounced under heavy load from a stop. Typical dealer bs, cannot replicate. Lasted a little over 60k...

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

All the misc rust, just wire wheel it down. Hit it with some dtm or epoxy primer. I’d recommend not spraying cheapo primer on in “for the time being” just more work before paint sanding it back off. You don’t want rattle can paint under a good paint job. Any chassis parts that will be black...

    Color match for blue interior

Can I use this hole for filling oil?

Must be the same valve covers they bought for my 77 when the engine was rebuilt. It doesn’t have an 710 cap. Or an oil cap lol. I didn’t even notice it when I bought the truck and recently changed the oil for the first time and was like ??? Yes it’ll pour in thru a breather hole.
