No dash lights suddenly, just the small gauges, on the 77.

Slightly different issue than most of the posts about cluster lights. All the lights worked last time I drove it at night. Been only day driving it for a couple months though. Last night took a spin since I had the headlight on for a couple hours making light in the garage (power has been out...

What have you done to your square lately??

Yup that’s when I knew Ford definitively lost their collective marbles. I had couple of them as work trucks and it was nice to have a heavier rear suspension but was still a F150 by another name. Not to mention, a bad decision for 2nd 3rd owners buying a newer vehicle with totally obsolete...

    Breaks weak

Could be proportioning valve, LPSV, crusty wheel cylinders, master cylinder. Not knowing age of parts and what you e done so far makes it tough to diagnose. But start with prop valve and reset it imo.

    Truck cover

Cheapest cover you can find to protect from a tarp scratching if you have good paint. Then a blue tarp so it doesn’t soak up moisture and the snow slides off. Snow and ice sticks to soft covers and is hard to remove and freeze thaw creates ice that tears up soft covers.

    Tire size confusion.

^Of course in only the context of the OPs truck and question, the pizza cutter sizes he needs I believe are only made it LT D or E load ratings. However any dually that isn’t hauling serious weight, the rating of the rear tires is of little concern. Even some wimpy tires in the low 100s load...

    Tire size confusion.

Not necessarily true. First depending on size, D loads are good for likely the payload and gvw with room to spare. Secondly, many squarebodys are not working trucks. Example our K20 would be just fine on far lighter rated tires than it has. Actually would help the ride and be able to maintain...

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

Know it’s an old thread, but fwiw, I doubt it was the “inspection cover”. More like took the cover off, saw what they messed up, fixed it, knew their audience and saved themselves the guilt or embarrassment or potential bad reputation of admitting what they messed up. Either way, great news...

Biggest street slicks that will tuck in on a 75K20 with 14 bolt full float drum brakes

Can’t say exactly, but short of pro street size tires, you can go pretty wide with the right offset wheel. I’d suggest measuring clearance with whatever size tire and rim offset you have now and then add width and adjust offset calcs until you get pretty tight front and back. Consider rolling...

Engineer is not to blame. Govt is. They’re literally unsafe, in more ways than one, which is the ironic part.

Anyone else have this "Turbo Diesel" plaque?

Not sure what you’re taking pics of, but there ain’t a turbo hooked to the intake. That’s a factory NA setup afaik. That would never pressurize. 99% sure you got no turbo just the stickers!

gas tank wont fill all the way

Depends on the pump nozzle type. I despise the newer vapor recovery styles. But all you can get up here. Some of them make such a good seal I can only get a couple gallons in before it spits back. Have to wedge it at an angle to fill. If this is happening with an old school pump nozzle then I’d...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Nah, not worried about blowing up a motor. If it’s good it’s good if it’s not it’ll blow anyways. Chevy 350s were the gold standard for tow boat motors (tow = ski/ wake / surf boat) for years. Mine is low hours but 1500-2000hrs +/- is avg life for a wake/surf boat running 3000-4500 rpm’s under...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Can’t keep up is not what I was insinuating. Moreso don’t want to try to keep up on the freeway with a deep geared non od setup. Sure my C10 with 3.5x gears can run relatively comfortably at 70mph. Does ok in Seattle urban freeways where the avg speed is like 20mph lower than than most cities...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

You have a 2wd so options are much cheaper/easier/more numerous than 4wd. The swap I’ve been thinking about but can’t wouldn’t do due to time and space required to make it happen is gmt 800 Tahoe/yukon full chassis under shortbed square body. The wheelbases are within 3/4” iirc so that solves...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

^Absolutely, the above 2 posts are examples of different needs and wants. And then of course hp/tq vs gearing (trans or final drive). If you got 450hp under the hood, you can tow your 10klbs with ease AND cruise at 75mph at lowish rpm’s with a 3sp auto no OD trans and some tall gears. Try the...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

^ @bucket, well said. Bottom line it’s a consideration of time, money, ability, desired use, end product and a couple other things I’m probably missing. And 2wd vs 4wd is a factor too. My old trucks will not likely be in the drive everywhere all the time category, so the ROI on doing ANY...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

What I mean by the last sentence is, some folks just want to be able to lower rpm’s some to go putz 55-60 mph down the county or state road and don’t leave within a 50 mile radius of home base most of the time. Where others are driving cross state or cross country on a freeway with an 80mph...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Yup, that’s about the least intrusive swap for reliability and simplicity of conversion, afaik. But in reality most any trans swap, auto or manual in a 4wd will have some fabbing, parts collecting and figuring to be done. I’m not well read enough to have memorized all the stuff some of the...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

You’re correct on top gear OD ratios, and useless was a strong word. I’ll revise to undesirable, to me, and apparently the entire automotive industry and general public buying every kind of light duty vehicle… Or we’d still have 1:1 transmissions in front of steep gears. One BIG difference...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Oh I agree, it’s not gonna blow up the engine in the near future. But that’s not the point I was trying to make nor likely the reason the OP wants lower highway rpm’s. If it was ideal or even fun to have the engine screaming down the highway all the time, I’m betting 4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 speed...

If timing is right, engine healthy and good power to battery, think I’d just replace the starter. $100 or less and it probably 30 or 40 years old anyways. JMO.
