    700R4 downshifting at any speed

How do you know the cable is adjusted correctly?

    TH400 SWAP HELP

Yep that is a TH400, not a Th475...That said, it may have 6 clutches in the direct drum and 5 in the forward, which was pretty standard fare for Motor Home/Box Truck/School Bus applications. You likely have helical gears, not the straight cut but that's not a big deal. Good luck with the project.

    TH400 SWAP HELP

No clue if you need the linkage either but you will know one way or another once you install it. I'd start by swapping the U-shaped braket from your 700R4 to your TH400. You'll need to run a wire and connector for the TH400's detent solenoid, otherwise you may have upshifting or downshifting...

    TH400 Information Thread

Yep, they did or at least the clutch pack config was the same across the Chevy/Pontic vs Olds and HP Buick turbo 400s; many of those VBs had no spring in the 1-2 acc reg valve, no lip seal in the forward drum along with no wave in the direct, as you mentioned. Most had 12 springs in the int...

Hey Bob - some of the HD and HP TH400s/475s had 6 frictions and steels in the direct clutch along with 5/5 in the forward...Post 73, they used stamped steel apply pistons with selective apply rings so it's very easy to fit an additional friction and steel by swapping out apply rings to short...

Like mentioned above, use blue Loctite and torque to 35-40 ft lbs, though I'd replace those particular bolts with a set from ARP, given that they were loose across multiple drive cycles. The ARP bolts take 50 ft lbs when using their fastener assembly lube.

You can convert either style into a 'constant pressure VB' but unless you're drag racing, it's not recommended...Having the VB generating 175PSI full time is extremely hard on the pump, results in extremely harsh shifts, especially the 1-2 shift and usually results in premature pump failure in...

I was wrong - you do need more than one guess, haha.

I'll give you three guesses as to why but you'll only need one...

700r4 speedo port not spinning at all.

Yea, the gears available in the aftermarket are color coded but you still need to know what color to buy which means you still need to count teeth on your originals than look up the tooth count by color on the replacement drive/driven gears so you purchase the right set for your vehicle. Also...

80-95 inch lbs is an ideal range, in my own personal experience, for all valve body and aux valve body or rear hold down plate bolts as well as the TCC Solenoid bolts. I do 105" on the 1-2 accumulator housing and 15 ft lbs on the larger 13mm bolt for the detent roller.

Was your speedo accurate prior to the gear(s) failing? If so, you dont need a website, simply count the teeth on the existing gear then order another with the same amount of teeth. If not, use TCI's Speedo Calculator (google it) to determine the number of driven gear teeth needed given the...

Not anymore, no color correlation between factory and aftermarket gears. If you count the teeth, you'll purchase the correct gear.

Remove the housing and driven gear. Count the teeth then buy a new gear w/the same amt of teeth if necessary, along with a new stem seal for the gear and o-ring for the housing. There's supposed to be a little "keeper" ring sitting in front of the seal. If it's not there, acquire a replacement.

    transmission oil change

Ditto what @Ricko1966 said; check Mr Gasket for a rubberized gasket with steel inserts, think they make one for the TH350. If you cant find it, composite gaskets are fine but DO NOT use cork or regular rubber as they both leak. Fluid is your choice. Trans fluid is heavily regulated so any...

Didn't watch the video but your description seems to indicate either governor, 2nd gear servo or valve body issues (perhaps 1-2 throttle and/or shift valve sticking), if it's the transmission (still don't know whether you've tested and ruled out engine-related causes). The sizable RPM drop from...

Yes - I'm referring to any dipstick/dipstick tube that may have been in whatever transmission was already in the vehicle prior to the 4L60E swap...In other words, discard the former transmission's dipstick/tube and install a 4L60E dipstick tube in the 4L60E that you or whomever swapped into the...

The stack-shifting can be due to improper set up, mal-adjusted TV cable or incorrect TV cable geometry (not saying that was the case with yours but those are common reasons for stack-shifting)...Other reasons include wear/cross-leaks in the forward drum's apply circuits, weak pump, worn TV boost...

Just curious, do you not trust the trans shop? To your question: It should work, as the case architecture in the area of the distick tube location is the same through all years 700R4 and 4L60E.

What year 700r4? Only the 1982-E87 in some models had the TC lock up in 2nd gear...Plus the TCC wouldn't drop RPMS that drastically...More than likely, there's a partial tie-up during the 2-3 shift due to the band not releasing completely before the 3-4 clutch pack applies. This happens when...

You're welcome and sure...Have you ever been in a 700R4 or 4L60E where the 3-4 clutch has burnt up? If so, when the transmission shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, it will feel like it's in neutral...But it's not actually in neutral - it's simply back in first gear...In third gear on these...

It shouldn't hurt the transmission but wouldn't go too far beyond that as you'll start to feel as though you're in neutral, if so.

    4L80e 1987 C 10 ls swap not shifting

If no power is getting to the trans, he will start out and remain in 2nd gear...If it's a speed sensor problem, he will start out and remain in first gear...So the purpose of the test is to see via process of elimination what gear he is actually in when everything is plugged into the...
