1st post, and really bad at it, I guess.
Just bought an 87 GMC that has less than 5,000 miles in the last 15 or 20 yrs.

IT STARTS! But that's all. Doing fluids filters, etc.I Dropped both tanks and this is what I'm looking at. They are baffled, and I'm fuel injected. What are my options for tanks? Obviously new pump, switch filter, etc

As stated before change the fuel filter and get an extra, keep it and the tools to change it in the glove box. I am assuming its still TBI. Dammit I got confused by the 87 that jumped in in the middle. Get at least 2 fuel filters clear plastic is fine for what you are going to do. Install one just before the pump ( not Ideal but easy) preferred make a temporary line install between the pump and carb put a fuel filter in that. Keep a spare filter and the tools to change it 8n the glove box, monitor your filter when it quits getting dirty put your OE. line back in. I've had cars that would gunk up the filter to where you had to pull over and change the filter. But they cleaned up eventually. I usually don't buy running vehicles, they normally are some kind of rescue.

Pump is in the tank, but I'll get some extra filters. Mostly asking whether to try to clean the tank or buy new.
Radiator shop wants $75 for each tank, and JEGs has tank, straps and fuel sending unit for $155. It does NOThave baffles, is that ok?

Well the way I read post 1, is you want to try your save your tank and not drop it. In which case I'd do just like I said in post 18. Which is what I would try first anyway. If post 18 fails then I'd pull my tank and evaluate. What I had. If you remember to unbolt the sending unit ground, and take the tank down with the brackets and straps attached( which is the easy way anyway) you can remove the tank sender and clean it through the sending unit hole, put it all back together no expense, just your time.

Post 16 has 2 images. The sending unit covered in gunk, and the tank (laying in the floor, off the truck) covered in gunk.

im not post 1, i just got on a thread that had some insight.
Ill buy new, and refrain from posting. Carry on

No. No start your own post so there is no confusion everyone is answering post 1. It's his thread.

@87-SIERRAbuild what you need to do is go to the top left, hit the three horizontal dashes, hit post new thread, post in tech . That way everyone's attention is on your problem. As for a TBI vehicle, you want a baffled tank unless you never go under 1/2 tank. That is never go under 1/2 tank, not rarely or occasionally go under 1/2 tank. That being said I'd clean my tank, or get a baffled tank there are couple of aftermarket work arounds to put in a non baffled tank, but they cost more than a baffled tank.
