Took the advice of @TotalyHucked and picked up a Tyger T1 soft tonneau for my crew cab. Real decent for $200 on the jungle site. They actually sent me two if anyone wants one on the cheap.

Is that an Olds 88 back there?

Don't know if I mentioned here or not. I had a reman motor installed in this last Thanksgiving. She is a beast now.

I don't believe you did. What happened to the old one and how many miles ended up on it?

It is an Oldsmobile with a big block, that's all the recon I got on that one. Was very clean looking.

The original motor had over 360K on it. It ran good but was really wore out. #7 cylinder was beat to hell from the AFM crap, as well as the valve train. Had a lot of blow by. Every time I replaced a leaking gasket another one would start to leak. 2 years ago the rear main started to leak and leak bad. I dealt with it long as I could. I didn't want to invest in repairing that with such a high mileage engine in the shape it was in.

It was my goal to replace the engine and keep this truck on the road since it was so rust free. It took me a while to get the money saved up. I could have went with a used motor, but I wanted something new that I can start off with a clean slate and keep serviced to my standards. Never had a brand new engine before. So this was kind of a bucket list thing as well.

I also have funding stashed away to replace the transmission when it decides to quit. Rear end and all suspension has been rebuilt. Should be a very reliable vehicle for quite a while for me.

Solid plan dude. Hopefully you can keep the rust away too.

My old daily driver was a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek...it was a great car and served me well. I live in the rustbelt so after 150,000 miles and 11 WNY winters with heavy road salt it was time to trade it in.
Picked up a 2025 Jeep Wrangler. 3.6L V6, 6spd Manual trans, 4.10 gears and rear locker.

I commend you on your purchase of a new vehicle with only 2 doors and a manual transmission. There's WAY too many soccer mom, duck collector, 4-door, automatic Jeeps out there.

Jeep has several demographics of women on lock. I'm not sure how or why, just the way it is.

It's definitely a unicorn nowadays, the dealer couldn't locate a 2 door / manual trans anywhere within 1000 miles! We ordered it up from the factory, took 6 weeks to be built.
If you have the time, check out YouTube for videos about the Jeep Assembly Complex in Toledo, OH.
Truly impressive facilty on 300+ acres that combines robotic automation with highly skilled workers.

My brother has a theory about this very thing. He noticed many of his smaller female friends had Jeeps or trucks, because they felt safer and could see further ahead in traffic. Might be a reverse macho thing too.

What I find odd is, so many jeep owners seem to be younger and don't have kids. Why in the heck do they buy the 4-door version?

Maybe they don't have kids yet....at lunch we saw two families, probably the kids are cousins, six between the couples and another on the way. One of these skinny girls that looks like she ate a watermelon when she is pregnant....
