Hey guys does anyone have pictures of there 1982-88 454 square body with long tube headers? I want to see how far the 4x4 headers hang down vs the 2wd. All I’ve gotten are people saying “there a few inches shorter that the 4x4 headers” but I personally don’t know how far down they hang so I would like for pictures if you guys have any.

Didn't think there would be a difference in the 4x4 or 4x2 lengths - but apparently I don't know what I don't know. And especially with a BBC.

These are pictures of Chevelle headers- I tried to find a picture of before I went to these, but couldn’t- I’d say a good 4” lower. And I do believe that 2wd vs 4wd are the same, I’ve never seen them advertised differently for application.

Edit- this picture is 2wd with a 5”/6” lower.

Sorry boss.
I just have a '79 2wd 3/4ton that is stock height with a big block.
But it wears a set of headers designed for a 1968-1972 BB Nova.
They tuck like a scared dog.

Here we are just looking casually under the truck.
You can see the front crossmember is lower than my collector bolts.

Putting my head and phone on the ground and you can finally see them up in there like cold nuts in a spring mountain stream.

I have a buddy that just so happened to have this set lurking around his place and didn't need them.
They were free-99 to me to test and see if they would fit the application.
I think they have now been in there long enough to rot out that flex pipe you see in there.
It is time to finally put the full 3 inch exhaust on it that will attach to these fine pipes that let that big block sing under full gas pedal.

See if you know somebody that has a random set kicking around or watch the swap meets for a set.
These bolted right up even with the factory Z-bar for the clutch.

I don't think there's any difference in 2wd and 4wd headers, I've never seen them advertised that way. But as posted above, Chevelle and Nova headers are the usual go-to's for tucking up nicely

I went with the Sanderson headers because they fit better with my Blueprint heads.

However, they are shorty headers that only come down about as far as the stock iron manifold does on the passenger side. This means that the flange and bolts are really close to the bell housing, so it's a PIA to reach with a wrench and get it all tightened down. No issues with clearance for spark plug wires, and they really have a good finish.

What year of Chevelle headers are those? Do you have the model number?

I think I put in a search for a ‘70 Chevelle when looking for them. These are 50 dollars cheaper now than when I bought mine- they’re pretty nice quality.

Various brands and models hang lower than others. Iirc, some brands do still offer 2wd-4x4 specific headers, but one brand's 2wd model may hang lower (or higher) than another brand's 4x4 model.

Car long tube will tuck (or at worst be even with the bottom of the frame) and truck long tube will hang down about 4" below the frame.

I had truck long tube but after I lowered it they were about 1.5" off the ground so I switched to car long tubes.
