Working on my first Square body.

It's a 1982 GMC Sierra Classic Long bed.

I really like the stock grill but it has a chunk missing. I didn't realize this style was hard to come by. It's also a dual headlight vs the 4 headlights. So far I have not seen any locally for sale.

For those with the dual headlight set up what other grills are you running? I see the 81-82 grills but I don’t know if it will look out of place.

I have an 82 that I've pieced together as well. Mine is a High Sierra but single headllamp version. I'm with @85K30 as I'd graft in a section and paint it. I used JB Weld and a donor 87 grille for the repair on mine. The grille mesh is a bit different but not many folks will notice unless you're using them for a hood ornament too! Hard to spot imperfection when running 55... Good Luck with it.

Welcome to the site too, by the way.

Unfortunately, none of the GMC grilles are repopped other than a crappy version of the '85-88. Any '81-88 Chevy or GMC grille will work for you though, they all physically interchange. Mine (blue one) is an '85, it had the original grille in it when I bought it that I never really cared for...

So I made my own out of a cheap repop '85-88 Chevy grille and an emblem from one of my old NBS trucks

Correction… the truck in your pics is a Single Headlight spec. Dual Headlights refer to 2 Headlights stacked on each side. High & Low beams.

That actually looks nice! I was looking to keep the Single headlight system though. I think that grill might make look good. I’ll try to truck down another one and attempt to graft parts onto it.

I like your idea, I’ll look into to.

So that Chevy grille I glued the GMC emblem onto is actually a single headlight grille that someone before me glued on the tabs for mounting the inboard running light/turn signals. So you could do something similar very easily

If you can't find a replacement grille, you can try the Hot Rod stainless grilles that you can get through Brothers, LMC, etc. Beware that they don't have any place to put an emblem though.

I went with an 84-85 generic Chevy grille and painted the letters on it for my 84 Sierra. Good enough for my daily driver.

Aftermarket tube grille with 1960's GMC medium duty chromed die cast letters:

Had to bend the "M" to match the tube grille contour.

I just went and looked to see the differences- thought I’d post this for others in case we see one in the wild. I’ll keep my eye out, every once in a blue moon I’ll see a GMC grille locally (but I think mostly the 85-87).

When you start swapping grills, remember there are sometimes also differences in mounting brackets. I have about a ‘79 grill on my ‘75, and I had to swap the metal mounting brackets for the grill. Not hard if you have a donor vehicle.

I would like to have a true ‘75 grill so it would have the right look, and it’s also one of the years that had an engine size emblem in the grill.

Did similar as Huck and Turbo initially. Emblem was a Craigslist buy for like $20 from a 2000s gmc something or other. Some creative affixin got it attached to the old billet grille the truck came with.

Then @FireTruck1984 sold me this grille he fixed up.
Honestly I like both styles but like the original a bit more.

Still rockin what I believe are the original headlight bezels. They were painted black when we bought the truck. Sanding them down, they’d been black, blue and some other silver color previously.
Shot coat of some old Chrysler light driftwood metallic color base coat made them look like sparkly argent color. Not sure why I didn’t just spend $26 on a new set…lol
That old can of Dodge paint has turned a lot of random parts “argent” color over the last 25 years….Amazing how auto paint never seems to go bad…

Still have a little less than a quart of Turquoise(original color) my son painted my 66 ChevyII SS clone with, in 1997. We used it to touch up the W/S opening after a w/s replacement was done totally WRONG!
