Tripod mirrors on lowered trucks?

That's how I'm going to do it. I want my truck to be a truck, with a bit of racecar thrown in for good measure.

Probably more because I just don't g.a.s. what others think of my ride(s).

That is the first lowered one I have seen with them still on it. I am having my truck painted though. In hindsight, I should have just left it alone :D
You are outta your mind for painting that truck lol. But since that's what's happening, I'd slap the normal dumbo mirrors on it if you want to actually be able to see. The sport mirrors look great but they're useless.

Also, just be aware that 95% (or maybe all of them, I'm not sure) of the aftermarket dumbo's base doesn't hug the door contour exactly right. That's because they unknowingly were developed using van mirrors. You can't really tell unless you know about it, but just an FYI

I think I am going to keep them for a few reasons, 1. It's the laziest approach and requires no fab work, 2. They look good on that orange truck, 3. I know I can see out of them.

So, after making the decision to use these mirrors, I naively assumed my local glass guy could fix my broken mirror but no, they don't do mirror stuff...

Do you guys have a link to a source for rebuilding these things? LMC is all universal stuff which I am not sure it will work here or not.

So my truck came with the rpo DG4 for the stainless tripod mirrors. They are easy to see out of but, what are they going to look like on a lowered truck?

I have seen trucks my color even with the sport mirrors but they look kind of small and are difficult to see out of. Does anyone have pics of an early square with these tripods and a 4/6 drop?

I’m nearing the point of filling these holes if I want to switch from them and can’t decide.

I love those mirrors. Have always been my favorite! My personsal preference would be leave em if ya like em... your truck build is for you, so you do you man.

My 90 doors have these.
Just only look at the mirrors lol
Those were my second favorite mirror, my 94 burban has the plastic power ones and i kept smashing them so i switched to those and never looked back lol

I'd try a different Glass Shop.
About 10 years ago I had that same type mirror glass replaced for $15 installed at my local Glass Shop. They did it while still on the truck.
They had hundreds of of templates hanging on the wall for all the previous mirrors that they have replaced over the years.

Yeah any glass shop that does mirrors can do that quick and cheap. Even if they have to measure and cut.

Back when we had our parts store, one of our drivers was in the '78 Sierra shop truck and got hit by oncoming traffic, knocked the mirror glass out. We got the gasket out of the broken glass, took it down the street to a glass company, and they cut a new mirror. I'm sure they had patterns like was mentioned, but they may have been able to get the measurements from the mirror head and gasket. Looked and worked just as good as the original one. Of course that was like 40+ years ago...

I’ll be keepin the tow mirrors on the BIG10 even after it’s lowered and when I paint it. But I’m just weird like that. I do wish the K20 had the tripod towing mirrors and the c10 had the dumbos, but whatever….its how they came from the factory.
I also think it makes a difference what the truck looks like. Classic original paint scheme 2 tone old school half ton work truck look, big mirrors just work. If it’s a smoothed custom candy paint job street rod, then Sport mirrors.
