Did come across a 2wd trans out of a 2007 with 80k on it. If minor updates will keep it alive seems like a much easier and cheaper route to go.
Yes, it's much cheapier/easier/less work to make it fit your truck.

Yeah, the big issue is finding a tailhousing. Can't seem to find those for cheap ever, so finding an actual 2wd to start with is definitely money and effort ahead.

I've also noticed that last few years...I have a small inventory of them but prices for housings have been climbing rapidly on the used market...Also seeing cores with the ext housing missing.

Running 8.1 Allison combo no body lift required.

Isn't there a high and low hump in these trucks? Just towed it home, another 3 mile trip and then it dies. Might be water in the tanks, drain and flush next job.

Quick update. Had a few minutes between coats of paint so checked the filter trap... water and some crap in it. If anyone is interested in a couple huge travel tanks let me know. Will probably clean up but they hang a little low without the running boards covering them up. Need to swap them out for the in tank pumps anyway.

Just wanted to update on the fuel issue. Finally got some time and started pumping out the tanks. Ran a long hose off the electric pump output into a barrel. Right off noticed that fuel flow was terrible and the fuel looks bad... lot of crap in it. Color is more toward brown so think that's probably an indication of old fuel. Bypassed the fuel filter and flow is good. I did change the filter but maybe it's already clogged from the crap in the tank. Am guessing there was enough flow to idle and drive around the property but not enough for higher speed/rpm runs.
